The Bauchi State Chapter of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders’ Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), has urged its members to vacate the 17 southern states, where governors have decided to ban open grazing.

MACBAN Chairman, Sadiq Ibrahim Ahmed, said: “This is a simple calculation. We are heading for secession. The rulers are no longer interested in the people. If some people are banned from open grazing, there is nothing more. Fulani people should move out from there. It is very simple.

“Must we transport the cattle there? I have said it before. We have an option of breeding our cattle here (North). We are peace lovers. Let them come and buy from us. It is some people’s fault.

“Criminality started in the South. Armed robbery, kidnapping. all started in the South. We have been watching these on television. And if these are being transited to the North, and you know we have a government that is not protecting the Constitution of the nation. Everyone takes laws into his hands.

“The Southern governors can do that. There is no problem, let them do what they want. If the Northern governors feel like, they can also do it too (banning open grazing)...”

Sadiq charged southern governors to face criminal groups in the South and leave Fulani herders alone.

He said: “The President is there as a figurehead. He doesn’t know what he’s doing. He is not controlling anybody. In our country now, everyone does what he feels like. The country is already moving apart. Where is the central government, if some governors can meet and take decisions that are against the Constitution...?”

Sadiq said the solution to Nigeria’s security challenge is for the “President to step aside or for Nigerians to put heads together and elect a credible president in 2023, a leader with focus and competence. Nigeria should get a leader with a good example, who is ready to sacrifice his life for his subjects.”

If as a poultry farmer, one has to buy feed or rent a land to cultivate feed for the chickens, I wonder why some futa jalon investors will just come around and expect to have free land and people's crop like that. What the governors did is what the constitution allows.

You forgot to mention that some group of governors up north cane to implement shari'a in a good number of states in the North as against the secular status of Nigeria and heaven didn't fall
Good you mentioned Buhari as not being there we all voted him but he seems to trust North and particularly his Islamic brothers than all of us.
You mentioned criminality. Criminality is a thing of old. If you observe carefully you will agree with me that criminality is even an English word and not that of any language of the South. And a further search showed that cattle rustling is also part of criminality which has been in the North even before the Fulani conquest.
Let's us stop this blame game and come together as a people to help ourselves.
My opinions
The northern elites need to educate their people that the time of attacking a people and taking over their land is gone. We are no longer living in the period of barbarians.
The northern elites need to educate their people that land owner now can only be made possible by purchase or willfully given by the ancestral owners and not by compulsion or duress.
The northern elites need to educate their people that religion practice is by individual volition and the time of forcing down people's throat is gone.
The north need to educate their people that staying in a particular place outside your known state no matter how long does not make the place I mean piece of land theirs. They could be evacuated at will.
Another way out. The northern states need to lead by examples by establishing ranches. Cattle can be raised up north and be transported to any part of the world where the market is.
Yams get to south every day from the north, same as beans and others agricultural produce.
Such method of transporting the above items could be used as well to transport cattle.
What it will take to divide the country is more than what it will take to keep it one peacefully and prosperous where everyone is a stakeholder and not observers.
