Since i was young he likes drinking. When we try to talk him into stopping he calms down after few days he gets back worst. I can talk to him again. I just don't know what to do. Unfortunately we don't have alcohol rehabilitation centers here in Nigeria. You can still find a way to get a psychiatrist to help him. 1 Like |

Tie him in the night Rub koboko inside tatashe Pour water on his body Flog him mercilessly while chanting "leave kai-kai" Only stop when he verbally agrees to leave drinking. 2 Likes |

Is your mom still available? I feel he's bottling up certain emotions. Like he feels ashamed or he's not happy about something especially from the past. Talk with him to open up to you as a man. Reassure him of your love as much as possible. Encourage him when he makes progress. Don't make him feel like a rejected person. Let him realize there's more to life and there's several ways to enjoy life. He should limit the intake; little by little he might even lose interest in drinks. If he feels the need to have a little drink (yes, I know he might get carried away); let him do so in the house, as long as he doesn't get violent when he's tipsy/wasted. Lastly, surround him with person(s) that make him have fun even when he's not drunk. As a young man; I also drink once a while but, I don't trouble anyone when I do. You'll hardly know when I'm tipsy; I just listen to music, relax and then check NL for lalasticlala . If I need to drink more, then I do so in the house. But most importantly, remember he's your father; bear the shame (yeah, it's not easy). You can't be seizing his money. Show him love, pray with him, take interest in some of his activities even if it's watching TV or walking with him, remind him you're proud of him whenever he makes some changes. Make him your best friend and never make him feel you're ashamed of him. Forget the disgrace; hug your father tight. Also, get him fruits, drugs, vitamins, etc to help him regarding his health. Do some health research, though. You should also make good changes in YOUR own life wherever you need to, your dad may see reason to change; parents can also learn from the children, you know? May God bless y'all. 2 Likes 1 Share |

ChiefSosa:I like your recommendations but you see my father hardly talks to us though he talks a lot outside and is kind of weird to sit him down to discuss with him but I have done that too. As for something in d past dat is hurting him I guess so. Well thank you |

If your father does not want to stop, there is not much you can really do. Many people who have an alcohol addiction lie to themselves about it. Has your father ever admitted he has a problem with alcohol? |

Trust me he will die faster if he stops. Anyone into alcohol will understand what I am saying. If that what give me joy and reason to live then he better be left alone. If he decides to stop it should be from him himself not you trying to force it on him. It doesn't work that way. Let him by. Everyone will do someday. |

. How old is your Dad? Is he more than 45? If yes leave him and allow him enjoy his alcohol in peace in as much as he doesn't disgrace you outside. We only live once and we must all be able to eat, drink and do what makes us happy or at least makes us forget some sad moment. Do not deprive an old man a chance of drinking his alcohol for it is on that he can always smiles anytime death comes knocking, saying, Ohh I did my thing while on earth If you will not allow people to stop you from seeing your friend/workmate, business partners or mentors, then you have no right to stop him from taking his alcohol. . |
