Please, Azubuike Okechukwu is actually not a bad player. He just needs to return to getting regular playing time to keep showing and enhancing his qualities. But the truth is mentioning him (a benchwarmer at Basaksehir - last started for them on Feb 19) in same sentence with Wilfred Ndidi right now is really diabolical. 3 Likes 2 Shares |

Omanambala: Great, I would actually agree with you that he's above average but not world class. For me, a world class player is one that is able to sustain brilliant performance and numbers at the highest career stages i.e World cup, Champions league etc. So once a player has had big numbers consistently in the local league, cup games (and world cup of applicable), and has had great numbers in the champions League as well for at least three seasons, he is world class! Typical example for an attacker (bar long term injuries); Local league games for the past three seasons = Must have scored atleast 20 goals in each season and Champions League appearance for the past three seasons = Must have scored atleast 20 goals (or close) combined in all three seasons. And Cup games (and world cup if applicable) during the past three seasons = Must have scored atleast 20 goals combined in all three season. Based in these standard, Jamie Vardy isn't world class! Mbappe is world class! Mbappe stats in the past three season; Ligue1 = Has scored over 20 close or close to that in each of the past 3 season. Check Champions League = has scored close to 20 goals combined in the past 3 seasons Check. Cup games and world cup = scored close to 20 goals combined Check. Result = World class! The above stat is a reference just for strikers. Midfielders, defenders goal keepers have their separate reference stats for categorising a player as world class. I really do not have the time to write up the reference stats for midfielders, defenders etc. But really, we here need to have our own definition of a world class player as this has been a widely used term without clear definition. I just threw a first stab at it and mine can be used as a preliminary. We should make the definition, modify it, agree and sticky it somewhere as a standard. So when next anyone will call a player world class he can first consult on our standard P.S. Ndidi would have to feature consistently in the big games and do what he does best in the world stage before he can be confirmed as world class. For now he isn't. 1 Like |

Beloved3: Thanks for towing the line of reasons by making an explicit post regarding this issue, unlike some wretched swine we have up there. Of course, Ndidi is not a world class player; how many champions league games has he played and consistently bossed the field , what about world cup games where he usually fall below expectations ? |

andrewbaba44: Vardy hasn't produced at the highest stages. That's where the big guns roll. How many goals or appearance has he in the champions League? How many goals has he in the world cup or even cup games? Would you class him as world class simple because he dazzles in the local league just as our own Paul Onuachu is doing? Well Vardy hasn't done enough to be in the league of players like NEYMAR who have rolled in the grass of the big guns and at the highest stages and have shown their worth unscathed. |

mank1234: Onazi was a baddass DM at his prime, especially with Super Eagles and Lazio. I will take an in-form Onazi over Ndidi , anyday. Onazi exudes confidence in that role because thats his natural position. Mikel's talent was stunted by Morinho who want him to shield the back but he still excelled with SE , unlike Ndidi who goes missing all game whenever SE play. |

Meliforme: Based on the role he currently plays....na make shift DM the guy be. Originally, he was just a plain defender. Do you remember what happened when una coach Rohr tried to make Ajayi a DM....disaster no happen? Ndidi can't get any better and this is because he doesn't have the skill set to do a complete DM's job. I don't have anything with the guy but I don't like players without finesse. Expecting Ndidi to become better is like expecting Iwobi to suddenly become a midfield maestro. Not gonna happen. |

andrewbaba44: Lol bro we are saying the same thing. Vardy has done very well locally but he has only 1 goal in cup games for over 5 years, just 2 career goals in Europa and just 2 goals for England in his international career. Lad has frozen and has been poor in the big stages. Sorry, he's not world class. |

temi1290: Azubike is a natural DM , who can play CM and even AM with all the combative feature. Its quite sad that he has been unlucky but we have some young bloods coming up. Zuby will hold the ball and operate the midfield seamlessly. That's a talented player , right there. Not taking anything away from Ndidi but he doesn't have that "thing" inherent in a natural born midfielders. |

jihday: His best seasons were within 2014 to 2017. He scored 18 goals combined in the champions League at that period. His stats in the local league and cup games were also up to standard during that period. Those were his best times and he was clearly world class then but not any longer. Sorry he dropped off the scale. Does that make any sense now? |

Omanambala: Lol bro I think you are being too hard on Ndidi. He is not world class yet but clearly a very good and indispensable player. I'm sure you know that yourself. Yes we were disappointed at him during the world cup but dude has been showing up immensely for us in our recent games. He has won the MOM for us (Vs Burundi at last Afcon I think?) and he's much more confident now when playing for the super eagles. Ndidi is very much key to our campaign in the forth coming Afcon. He's a fantastic DM. Kindly give credit when due bro. Ndidi is no body's mate in the eagles when it comes to DM duties, Azubuike doesn't even come close. Cheers bro. 3 Likes 1 Share |

Omanambala: How can you say that a consistent player that the coach of a team better than Arsenal, Everton and Tottenham rely on for result is poor. Mention the games that super eagles has played without him that we were better for you to conclude that he goes missing in games. You're beginning to sound illogical and emotional. For your information, Leicester is now an elite club in England; the earlier you accept it the better. Ndidi as a player has delivered in big matches. With him, Leicester has beaten all top teams in England this season, in big games. Are the teams that play in champions league or world cup bigger than Manchester City and Chelsea? |
Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2023, 2025 And 2026 World Cup by Meliforme: 4:59pm On May 22, 2021 |
Omanambala: What is your definition of a makeshift? I want to know Do you know the reason why he was moved to midfield. It may shock you to learn that he was moved because of the kind of passes, long balls and crosses he kept making from his position as a defender. So what are the skills required to do a complete DM's job Do you want him to make more dribbles and create scoring chances, then that is not the main job of a DM. For the role he plays, he does that with finesse. Do you know what it takes to steal the ball from the opponent, clog up plays and make interceptions, you need intelligence (to read games) and a lot of creativity. 3 Likes |
