IderadeAratumi: I am a Female Nigerian in my early thirties and have been working @ the UN for several years.
This thread has been created to answer specific questions you may have about working in the UN.
I have been working from home since the beginning of the pandemic and my days are always extremely busy ; juggling official duties with domestic responsibilities as a wife and mother . Notwithstanding, I will try my best to select serious questions and provide comprehensive feedback that will help you kick start your journey in this regard.
As the thread progresses, I shall be posting vacancies from several UN/international organisations in Nigeria, and also provide support with helping you to brand your CV for international organisations like the UN, but not limited to the UN.
Please note that this thread is for serious minded peeps only and comments irrelevant to the purpose of this (life changing) thread will be overlooked.
Kind Regards, Iderade Aratumi Please, whats your LinkedIn profile name? I tried looking you up with your name but it didn't show any result. Or can you please share the link to your profile? 2 Likes |

Sorry about that, in most cases like these, either there's an issue with the proposed funding source, as your salary would have been taken care of by the funds, but I guess the expected funds to support the role you were being recruited for did not materialize as planned. It's sad that they didn't get back to you on this. They owed me the duty of explanation or at least a feedback. What virtue are they preaching after all? |

Kind Regards, Iderade Aratumi Good day Madam I have few questions: 1. What are the prerequisites one needs to have to work with the UN(i.e Academic qualifications etc.)? 2. Is it limited to certain age? 3. Are the whole hives and jives of travel and exploration with cumbersome benefits really true? Thank you I await your response. 2 Likes |

This is absolutely wrong, you don't need to know anybody to land a job in the UN, I personally did not know anybody when I got recruited from Nigeria.....one thing we must know is that the recruitment process is highly competitive.....they recruit the best of the best....so you must be ready to compete both locally & internationally for the role. Hello pls what's the opportunities like in UN for retired naval officers? Kindly assist if you can on updates 1 Like |

I doubt if UN agencies pay as much as MSF though Lol... In MSF, a log supervisor is in grade 6, the take home is around 260k+, in UN, a log assistant takes 700k+. Msf don't even pay anything compared to UN, iFRC, ICRC etc Perdiem for msf is a misery 3k per night. UN is like times 15 of that for a night. Summary: a manager in MSF does not earn anything close to an assistant in UN agencies 6 Likes 2 Shares |

beegs: I am applying for a security job in juba and I have 10yrs experience in security and intelligence in Nigeria. And I am 38 yrs old. Any tip? First of all, there is a general recruitment freeze amongst UN agencies due to low availability of funds as a result of the aftermath of the covid-19 pandemic.....so ensure that the listed position is specifically open to other nationals outside the job location. Secondly ensure that keywords listed in the job description are captured in your resume, attach as much relevant supporting documents to back your work experience. Thirdly, back it up with prayers that you get shortlisted..... don't overlook the "God Factor". All the best. 9 Likes |
