I was an ordinary job seeker, being out of job for over a year. The UN gave me hope and have given hope to several other "ordinary" job seekers. However, the question is always: what value have you added to yourself because your "joblessness" does not define you. Being valueless is more of a tragedy than being jobless and the UN understans this, which is why there is no discrimination in the recruitment process.
Help me out..I've applied severally

Is thier any opportunity for architecture graduates (bsc or MSC)

Look for agencies you are interested in, and add the kind of value they usually request for in their vacancy announcements. Value transcends your first degree ooo, but not your second degree if you know what I mean.

Best of luck!

Thank you. Much appreciated. You will reduce the load of work for me on this thread. Thanks
Well, like I said, this your post was posted on another webpage. Just google it and see.
Besides, I'm not aware of a professional in today's world without a LinkedIn bio

The question is what help is the op rendering exactly?
In this age we're in. A phantom name claiming on the net to work with UN and offering to "help" should be viewed with utmost caution and suspicion.

I agree with you jare

Aside medical practitioners ( Doctor & Nurses), Social & Development workers and Logistics & supply professionals, what other profession is highly regarded at the UN?
2 : is a Masters degree a requisite for any role ?

1. Too numerous to mention.. Google would come in handy.
2. Yes for some advanced/managerial roles like the one I occupy presently

Why did @IderadeAratumi open this thread for the sole purpose of enlightenment but she hasn't answer a question since?

Because I am extremely busy with domestic responsibilities coupled with the fact that I am a pastor's wife who just came back from church not quite long ago. Thanks!

Is volunteering a paid job

Most are not, but may be pivotal to being recruited, depending on the agency.

Please, whats your LinkedIn profile name? I tried looking you up with your name but it didn't show any result. Or can you please share the link to your profile?

I am very anonymous as most family and friends do not know I work with the UN, except my husband and mum. I live a modest life that does not reflect the kind of salary I earn. As such, my linked in profile, facebook, etc was last updated before I got this job. It will remain so for now.

They owed me the duty of explanation or at least a feedback. What virtue are they preaching after all?

Depends on the agency. My agency provides feedback even if it is a rejection.

Good day Madam
I have few questions:
1. What are the prerequisites one needs to have to work with the UN(i.e Academic qualifications etc.)?
2. Is it limited to certain age?
3. Are the whole hives and jives of travel and exploration with cumbersome benefits really true?
Thank you
I await your response.

1. Basic first degree @ the least. I have seen OND being recruited into lower level positions.
2. None that I am aware of. Not that a 50 year old will now apply for entry level positions ooo.
3. Yes, the benefits are true and reviewed upwards @ least once a year

Lol... In MSF, a log supervisor is in grade 6, the take home is around 260k+, in UN, a log assistant takes 700k+. Msf don't even pay anything compared to UN, iFRC, ICRC etc

Perdiem for msf is a misery 3k per night. UN is like times 15 of that for a night.

Summary: a manager in MSF does not earn anything close to an assistant in UN agencies

Very well said!

The UN is looking for you, depending on the agency, and the value you bring on board which stands you out from the crowd.

Best of luck!

How many of your family members have you help to get a job in UN ?

I help by sharing job vacancies and sometimes, financially. In my agency, recruitment is strictly merit based not by any connection. I can not even recommend any of them to the recruiters who are my close colleagues. What I do is to help them package their CV and cover letter in an irresistible way.

I am extremely busy and do not have the time to convince anyone of my intentions. Anyone can chose what/what not to believe. I am too busy to care.
I understand you perfectly. I work with one of the international agencies here in abuja too.

Mind if I DM you?

You don't get hired by UN directly except if you lucky to enter through their global talent program which is very competitive. There are international agencies, working in the humanitarian sector in Nigeria, paying more than UN.

Deepen your skills in Data analysis, Monitoring and evaluation, Report writing and graphics, Water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH), Development and conflict management.

Masters degree is a must as it gives you an edge. The sector is fiercely competitive and you have to show strong competitive advantage over other candidates.

Search for job with the following organisations in Nigeria:
USAID
British Council
Danish refugee council; Norwegian refugee council
Plan international
Palladium
RTI
Ford foundation
Christian aid
Caritas
German development cooperation
European union and ECOWAS
Creative associates
Medicine san frontiers
INTERSOS
Save the children
Family Health International (FHI)
Association for Reproductive Health and Family (ARFH)
Clinton Health Foundation
World Bank
International Finance Corporation
Islamic Development Bank
International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent (IFRC)
Catholic Relief Service (CRS)
Panagora
Development Alternative Initiative (DAI)
Coffey
Society for Family Health (SFH)
MSI

There are many others that I can't remember again. You need to horn your skills with these organisation to make your path to UN easier.

Also note that not all these agencies pays more than UN, but they provide more easy route. UN agencies hardly recruit people without development and humanitarian experiences.

Don't underestimate the importance of being multilingual. Learn foreign languages like french and German. German development cooperation or medicine san frontiers will take someone fluent in German or French, as the the case may be than someone that is monolingual. That's why most francophone countries are more represented in international organisations than anglophone countries. Those from french speaking countries learns English as a second language while those from English speaking countries hardly learns french or any other language.

You have to also be good with the work of UN and it's agencies around the world. Agencies of UN include the following:
UNICEF
FAO
WFP
UNDP
UNESCO
International Organisation for Migration (IOM)
United Nations Organisation for Drugs and Crime
WHO

Getting into these agencies are not easy.

@ bolded is not usually applicable in Nigeria.

Everyone be CAREFUL. The UN agencies DOES NOT recruit interns. Interns could only be kept by an agency, & very rare too, for the perid of a few months & WITHOUT PAY. Everything the UN want made public can be seen & copied online. That is probably where our "UN STAFF " @Iderade Aratumi & @Jabberjawz WHO IS SAME PERSON copied all he is spewing out here. He is the person that probably made the inciting post yesterday for this rubbish today. If you want to know about the UN, go to un.org & you will find EVERYTHING so these FRAUDS wont dupe you. On un.org all the agencies have their links there. Find the individual agency website & look through & you wll find what you are looking for. A UN staff wont have time for this nonsense...ENOUGH SAID

@ Jabberjawz thanks for your help on this thread. Kindly ignore the insinuation that we are thesame person to avoid derailment of the thread.

You do not have to prove anything to anyone on your sincerity of intentions.

Thanks for your understanding.
