ItzNas: You didn't get me properly. I said getting there is usually competitive. I cant remember saying that the pay of all those NGOs are higher than that of UN. I merely listed other NGOs and INGOs one could apply to instead of waiting for UN. With experience in those NGOs, one could leverage on that and apply to UN. Note also that UN tries to balance nationalities in their staffing composition. Masters degree gives an edge over others when it comes to INGOs and UN. That's the fact. But experience is the most sought after qualification. Bro, it would be difficult to enter through the global talent program without masters or proven cognate experience, which are mainly for recent graduates with exceptional results. 5 Likes 1 Share |

IderadeAratumi: Please I have been applying for years to no avail. What could I be doing wrong? |
Re: Getting A Job In The United Nations Demystified by IderadeAratumi: 6:42pm On May 23, 2021 |
Agbegbaorogboye: Yes if it is that, I have an explanation for it which I am sure the mod who moved this thread to front page is also aware of. I do not owe anyone an explanation. Thanks for yor concern though. The country has become something else in terms of security, that even in real life, less than 5 persons know where I work, not to talk of the fact that it is a managerial position. Hence, I understand you tryiing to protect the interest of innocent job seekers perfectly and do not take any offense. |

blackpanda: What value stands you out from other jobseekers? An adverisement can be made for only 1 or maximum of 5 positions (not always, anyway) and thousands of people apply. When my position was advertised, over one thousand applied and I was the only one selected. This is a story for another day as I will be sharing lessons learnt during that recruitment process, probably before the end of this week. During the recruitment of my subordinates, over three thousand applied per vacancy but only 1 was recruited for each VA. So it is not about what you could be doing wrong. It is a highly competitive process that seeks to identify the most valuable ones that will bring unquantifiable value on board. But of course, it is not restricted to value. Value is just the starting point. I will try to share my insights on this as the thread progresses. 7 Likes |

Thank you very much... Ma.. I believe the missions or INGO.. has to taken the stands of Man know Man too.. In a way i believe they are compromised.. Not like what we were told about them...being in Good books.. |
Re: Getting A Job In The United Nations Demystified by IderadeAratumi: 7:04pm On May 23, 2021 |
IJEYdiamond: I agree. But in the UN, man-know man does not guarantee you the job. I'll share my personal experience about this tomorrow as I was initially sent a rejection mail to allow for "well connected candidates", until... TBC tomorrow. 3 Likes |

IderadeAratumi:Your explanation is taken with caution still. However, if I may ask a final question before I hold my peace, and also offer a word of advice presumptuously. Since you claim to hold a managerial position at UN, what is your endgame precisely for this thread? If it is to offer general advice, I think people will be better served if you write it out as an article. However, it will be better by virtue of your position, if you make available vacancies that may exist, which you think are realistic for people to apply to and also if possible, give them tips on what to look out for to get the jobs. People are desperate nowadays and there are a lot of Nigerians who profit from the desperation of others. It would be wrong to give people false hope on things you are not sure of following through or that the chances of being successful are very low. 1 Like |

Agbegbaorogboye: I did not explain anything to you. I told you I owe no one any explanation. I only buttressed on my understanding about your doubts which reflects in the way I live my life, hence I do not feel bad about your cautiousness or take offence. If you go through my posts, you will understand the the purpose of this thread, hence your recommendations above only reinforces the thread's purpose before you even typed it out. 5 Likes |

Good day ma'am. I would like to know how I'd get an NGO agency as my PPA as I'm almost done with school and working with an NGO has been something I've been looking forward to lately. I'm studying Adult and non formal education with my course area being English and Literature. What areas can I focus on in an NGO agency? @ideredearatumi @jabberjawz please your attention is needed |

Odunayaw: Hey Boss, apologies for not responding to your post....I will refer your question to the @op.... ... quantity surveyors work as estate or premises officer in the previous iNGO I worked for b4 joining the UN..... however you will need to do some more research, google more, I personally have not really come across a quantity surveyor working in the UN but I think there are, but you can diversify your skills to have additional value added to your CV....& That would be additional value you are bringing to the table......but the @op can add her thoughts on this as well. |

You be insider bro. MSF has funding that rubs shoulder with UN but pay isn't good. They believe you doing it as an humanitarian and not to make money. My best friend and flatmate works there. Don't compare their pay with UN. They don't even match up to INGOs like IRC, Mercy Corps, NRC etc tito44: 2 Likes |

By the way, if IP means what I think it means, then you be my senior sir That is the next level I am aiming for as my Ogas here have refused me to go on temporary duty reassignments; making me miss out on several opportunities after being requested for. Already looking @ opportunities in other agencies, 'cos as long as I remain here, dem no gree make I go. It is well |
