bercarray:Web development if you want to earn fast. Data science is still a very new and upcoming field. Plus it's very easy to transition from web development to data science if you later want to. Even the data science thread the guy was a web developer for a year before he delved into data science. 2 Likes 1 Share |

tensazangetsu20:Some of the data science guys that finished from my bootcamp are struggling to learn JavaScript and move into web development full-time, while others only managed to secure data entry jobs. Only a few got actual data science Jobs. 1 Like |

tensazangetsu20:Yeah that's true once you can conquer the "Nigerian factors" i.e high cost of getting a laptop, poor power supply and slow and expensive internet, you are already one step closer. 2 Likes |

spartan117:For many who learnt data science, the problem is that they want to get into machine learning and A.I very fast. Meanwhile, 70% of machine learning is about Data tweaking/featuring. It is better people focus on data analysis or begin with data analyst jobs. There are so many opportunities for data analysts and the trend is comparable to software development. Learning Power BI or Tableau, Excel, and SQL are the first steps in the Data Industry, then the icing on the cake is Python and R. 6 Likes 1 Share |

tensazangetsu20: Nice post but do you think the pay is realistic? Today any company that can pay you 80k and above can sponsor you to the US. While it good to be optimistic, that's not an amount you easily earn remotely. |
Re: The Myth Of Saturation With Regards To Web Development. by tensazangetsu20(m): 4:31pm On May 25, 2021 |
Studymore123:Yes it realistic o but such jobs are not easy to get. Erhm sponsorship to the USA is more or less a lottery thing since the H1B visa has a cap on it. What American companies do now is to sponsor Nigerians or others to their European offices then they work a few years then from there they do an L1 transfer to the US. A lot of these jobs exist but they arent easy to get not because of competition but skillsets which are just starting to acquire. Indians have been enjoying this for ages. 1 Like |

@tensazangetsu20 you are right in some ways though. However I think anyone can bypass the negative effects of saturation of any field of IT by being very very good. Being exceptionally talented as a programmer gives one a good edge in any niche regardless of saturation. But attaining mastery in anything doesn't come easy. Mastering JavaScript alone is a task that demands a lot of effort. One has to build a lot of projects and read a lot of people's code. Practice makes perfect. Programming is not for the faint hearted 5 Likes |

tensazangetsu20:What people should target for entry level is Data analysis (SQL, PowerBI/Tableau, Excel). After all these, it becomes easier to get into Data Engineering at least as one goes further learning either Python or R. 2 Likes |

Citygal:it's very true what the op said about "Ds and ML" having few jobs in Nigeria. If I were you ,I would listen to him. Nigeria isn't ready for it yet. What's paining me the most is the whole time I put into learning it. Spent months upon months on it only to find it hard in getting job openings for it here. The few I got didn't take me seriously because of lack of certification. So now I am switching over, after much thought over desktops or web dev, today I begin my journey into the world of web. Choose wisely. 1 Like 1 Share |
