LikeAking: I'm loving this thread. I'm sure the OP opened the thread hoping to get sympathy comments for her cousin and nairalanders cursing the owner of the school. But I love it as people are giving her the reality. One of the main problems with this country is religion and being too sentimental. These private schools have their code of conduct and a teacher cannot just come and start forcing the kids to pray or observe a minute silence. |

Sisterhot:What the op wrote didn't make any logical sense so I read it and moved on. This rejoinder too doesn't sound plausible. But let's assume it's true, I keep wondering why hypocrisy is so high among humans. The kind of Christianity I practiced while growing up was such that, when you commit "sin", you won't feel ok for a vert long time. But now a girl will sleep in my house Saturday night and still invite me for church on Sunday morning and quarrel me if I don't go with her. Hypocrisy!!! |

Unfortunately, the school system is no more what it used to be. I have the privilege to explain the meaning of putting a flag at Half Mast to some Students preparing for Jamb yesterday. Not surprised nobody know the meaning of a flag been erected at Half Mast Spiritual issue should be avoided, but the history and civic Education must be hammered well. Not funny that the flag was not put at half mast for a young lady pilot who was crushed to death in the same Kaduna |

A country called Nigeria is no more in existence. Why pray for nonliving thing? |

omolola100: There is no place a school curriculum says you should pray for NIGERIA, praying for NIGERIA is like telling the students you people will never get job after graduation or that Herdsmen will cut your live short. Wisdom is when you know what to do in a particular place/time to be safe |
Re: She Was Sacked For Telling Students To Pray For Nigeria by abatically(m): 10:40am On May 25, 2021 |
omolola100: Praying for Nigeria is not the issue. How ur cousin decided to go about it is the issue here. She probably went overboard. Nobody is wishing ur cousin bad, hopefully she has learned her lessons. Wherever u work u should always go by their codes of conduct. U can't be working for a private organization and in the morning u ask all workers to come out for morning devotion. While some business owners wouldn't mind, some will not take it lightly with u. |

Sisterhot: The level of hypocrisy amongst the said Christians of today is irritatingly disgusting. No shame, what they condemn as sin in public is what they happily indulge in private |

Re: She Was Sacked For Telling Students To Pray For Nigeria by abatically(m): 11:01am On May 25, 2021 |
jaxxy: Bros, u can't just go into a classroom in an American school and start shouting 'Praise the Lord'. U cannot force ur religion unto others who don't believe in the same thing that u believe in. Prayers are not legal in American schools, u are free to pray alone or in groups as long as it is not disruptive and do not infringe upon the rights of others. But while u pray u cannot force directly or indirectly others to listen to u. Everybody has a right to believe or not believe in any religion and u need to respect that. Religion is one of the major things killing this country.

Re: She Was Sacked For Telling Students To Pray For Nigeria by abatically(m): 11:21am On May 25, 2021 |
jaxxy: I think there is more to the story than we are being told. And it also depends on the school. Like asking 5-10 yr olds to observe a minute silence for the dead is not ideal (the OP didn't let us know if it was a secondary school or primary school or even the age group of the pupils). There is also the issue of her reaction if some students refused to participate in the prayer. And if its in the school rules that such things are not allowed then she has gone against the rules. If u think it is perfectly normal for a teacher to go into classroom and start praying then u should also accept it is 100% normal for another teacher to go into classroom saying Allau akbar and reading the quran, and also perfectly normal for a teacher to go into the classroom dressed like babalawo spraying powders in the air all in the name of praying for Nigeria. The last time I checked Nigerians have the right to any religion. U can't criticize one and embrace the other. This is why religion shouldn't be broght into schools at all unless if its a religion owned school. |

Sometime i wonder where we are heading to in this Country. Even the Bible said we should pray for our Nation and here someone has been sacked for urging others to do so. It's well. |

omolola100:while it's sad that your cousin lost her job, the school owner is not wrong to fire her. They say insanity is trying the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result. How many years have we been praying for Nigeria? Isn't the message from God clear? That Nigeria needs no pray and that Nigeria can never work as a nation. The right prayer is to dissolve this country peacefully and let everyone go their separate ways. This marriage called Nigeria clearly is not workind killing people everyday Also you said your cousin observed a minute silence for what? Your cousin is an idiot |

Coldshisha: Hello. I have a different view to this. I do not think that asking the kids to pray for Nigeria is a bad thing neither is asking them to give a moment of silence in honor of our late COAS , an abomination. We need to pay close attention to the way we raise our kids, they should be made to think or believe that things such as empathy and national consciousness are irrelevant. How will the change come if the future generations already view key issues are trivial and of no consequence? What kind of future are we preparing them and the nation for? I am deeply concerned really... Then again ,what do i know. |
Re: She Was Sacked For Telling Students To Pray For Nigeria by Coldshisha: 11:44am On May 25, 2021 |
FrenchyL: I am honestly a die hard one Nigeria enthusiast, and as long as it's Islamic, Christian or Traditional Ifa Yoruba prayers I don't care if my kids pray it, heck I attended a Christian owned private school and am still a Muslim But right now religious and political issues especially soveriengty, ethnic Nationality and many issues are affecting us and I am of the personal opinion that Christian or Muslim prayers for or against Nigeria must be restricted to churches and mosque |

Good action from the school authority. Nigerians are very stupid hypocrites, time is coming any school or church that pledges nigeria fake anthem will be burn down in 72 hours time. Useless Nigeria.

I dont know the problem with all these private school, you sacked your english teacher when you don't having any alternative, this is the person that take english language, business studies and computer js1-3, and she earns 14,500 per month as a graduate she called her this morning to resume back to work, but i told her not to resume their again, God will make another way for her, instead of you to scold her not to make such mistake again, you sacked her, and nw you want her back, never on earth will she resume back to that school again, probably God is preparing her for a greater place.. for those putting the blame on the innocent girl, continue critisizing her, 5minute prayer for nigeria is not a sin, we still need prayer so that we won't fall victims of evil. prayer is not a sin.. |

Re: She Was Sacked For Telling Students To Pray For Nigeria by IMASTEX: 11:58am On May 25, 2021 |
omolola100:Code of conduct and policy are for a reason. Same applies to mode of dressing. She can pray & fast for whatsoever she loved personally and not adjusting someone's business rules. Moreover Nigerians have been praying for ages without corresponding action hence zero result. And it will continue to remain so forever until necessary action is applied, I.e. conscious demand for good governance, etc. Nothing happens until something happens, prayers alone didn't build any nation. As a matter of fact, it is action first before prayer if you must. Reference to China. |

Re: She Was Sacked For Telling Students To Pray For Nigeria by abatically(m): 12:06pm On May 25, 2021 |
ThatFairGuy: The school should be closed? Like really? Ok lemme ask, if a teacher dresses like a babalawo, goes to the classroom and start asking the students to pray for Nigeria in a traditional way, spraying powders in the air. Or the teacher dresses in whit gament, light candles all in the name of praying for Nigeria, is that cool or not? Last time I checked every Nigerian citizen has a right to religion so the teacher is only praying the way he knows how to. If u condemn any one of these acts and embrace one then ur the hypocrite. U force a muslim student to pray in christian way (and vice versa), the student goes home, tells his parents and parents start calling school owners threatening to withdraw their students from the school. Tell me if ur the school owner what would u do? Keep the teacher and lose ur students? |
