Life ain't easy OP , I know times are tough but if you have driving skills , apply as a driver in Lagos or abuja ,with God on your side . you can get a 50-70k a month Job , save a little and look for a car to buy on hire purchase and at least start uber/taxify business ..
you have given the best and most pragmatic advise here. I graduated in 2012 but there was nothing to be proud of after 5 years then I decided to make use of my driving skills and I really thank God for my life. Today I can boast of 3-4 square meals for my family and I have hundreds of thousands in my account.

This is exaggerated. To an extent, there are still opportunities in the country. I realised we also add to the problem by concluding there is no hope, we eventually end up negatively impacting the younger ones with this mindset.

Most of the younger ones negatively impacted don't even bother trying while some just opt for the illegit means.

We need to change that mindset.

To get admission wahala, you dey school wahala, to graduate wahala you graduate to get job wahala. Advice is after finishing school take the first five years as an experiment. Make sure you able to feed yourself, cloth yourself, accommodate your self. Then think of what to do next. Don't depend on your credentials. Super glue it inside an envelope and move on.

We are in the same shoe as well,I also graduated in 2017.My best friends who is working in Lagos promised to get me job in his company and to stay with him for a while till I get my accommodation.
But unfortunately he disappointed me.I have even got security job where they have agreed to be paying me 28k but people said that such work did not good for me as a graduate.
Those people that said that disappointed me and could not help me in terms of feeding, accommodation e t c even during cov19 lockdown
See I suffered like mad because it is private school am teaching collecting 15k
The worst thing is that I am an orphan who did hard job to see myself through in University.Although some people contributed.Infact I regretted of going to school.

Theres nothing to exxagerate. There is no opportunities in Nigeria. The only thing I will advise a young Nigerian graduate is to get coding skills start while in university. With tech skills your job market is global and you can work for foreign firms and earn well while living in Nigeria. Everything else is shit. Doctors aint even finding things funny now.

Lemme share my story... It may help.

I graduated in 2016, served 2017 and there life started. I hustled a teaching job of 40K and home lessons of about 45K per month. During this period of about 9 monhts, I saved up about 300K or so and started my MSc in UniPORT.

Cos I knew I had no family funding for the programme, I went all out hustling. I taught my course mate courses and assisted them with their assignments for cash. I made sure I came out as the best so I can sell my sell to them so that they would know my capacity for referral.

I built my research skills that helped me open a consulting firm after finishing the programme. It started small but we are making tremendous progress.

Most importantly, I started taking God seriously. I changed church to Winners chapel followed the teachings and started giving and sowing recklessly.

Things turned out so amazing that I send money home to support them and live comfortably well.

I'm literally earning projected annual earnings in a Month currently.

It's been God all the way.

Lesson:

Put in work... Look an opportunity to provide paid service and stop focusing on job hunting.

Get serious with God and sow seeds like mad. It work bro!

All the best!

Did you graduate in 2016? How have you been coping?

After all these years all I can point at is a teaching job I Engaged in Fetching 15k a month. I quit tho after innumerable nonsense and pathetic experiences.

I feel like I am not doing enough. I feel like I am not trying enough. When I look at my dad and see his Grey hair, I feel like I have failed him because I am still eating his food bought with monthly pension. I am still sleeping and waking up under his roof at over 30years old.

As a child, I remembered the week when I was to enter Jss1, dad took me to a boutique and bought me a very fine white canvass. Now over the years I can't even afford to buy him a shoe. The last time I bought him anything was 2017 during my NYSC.

I feel I have failed not only him but a lot of people that hoped in me to become something reasonable. Laundry sef no work, always in the shop regretting my entire journey. Maybe I should have waited and studied another course or maybe I should have just chosen and engaged in a trade with with my 100 level tuition embarassed

I just regret everything. Under the hot sun, People will see me walking from one company to another establishment with my credentials. Most times i have to Beg for money just to move from one place to another online. The situation is that terrible

I have asked myself what I am doing wrong but I apply to jobs everyday. Or maybe I am afraid of starting a family on 15k salary just like most of my colleagues back in university. We do meet and they tell me how I am delaying in starting a family, and then goes ahead to tell me how poor their teaching salaries are and how they have had to depend on friends and family. But me I have no one to fall on.

A times I feel really sad and end up praying for those unemployed graduates going through the same phase I am phase I am passing through. Even though you don't know me, I pray for you

2016 ~ 2017 remains the worst year to graduate. I graduated 2016 and this is how I've been coping.

After NYSC I took up a part-time teaching job for 2k per day. I come twice a week. That's about 16k pet month. I loved the job as it gave me time for other stuff.

I followed the advice of some people who thought I should leave the teaching job and go for something that can give me career growth as an engineer. I left the teaching and joined a production/construction company. In an instant, all my freedom was stripped from me as I was literally working round the clock and round the week and I was payed as little as 15k, and a small apartment. With promise of 50k and a car as things progress.

I couldn't trade my freedom for anything. I had to quit after a year. They already bought me a Nissan Micra, hoping to give me the keys but I had to resign the same day. I felt so relieved being free again.

About seven months after. I passed the front of a company and was impressed by the way they situated the office building with a garden. Coincidentally, they was a post that they're hiring. I casually applied and was hired. The pay was 50k for the start and a promise of and increase within 6months if I perform. This time, my position in the maintenance department was even more time demanding than my former job.
I didn't even get any chance to be viewing the gardens that attracted me, as I spent most of my time attending to the heavy machinery.
I had to quit after 2months so I could be free again.

Lastly, I decided that jobs are not for me as often require you mortgage you freedom. I stayed broke for like 3months before my freelance endeavors picked up and could pay my bills.

It's been like 2yrs I didn't work for anyone, nor sell anything. I just stay in my house or anywhere I want to be and work from there. It hasn't been easy, but it was worth it. Most people thought I was being lazy for not staying in jobs. Earning average of $500 per I earn more than most of them today.

My advice: Break out, become a deviant and a non-conformist. Do things that will move you forward not minding what people think or say.
