Why TINUBU And South West MUST Stand Down by nsiba: 3:39pm On May 27, 2021
n 1999,the All People’s Party held its primaries at Ranchers Bees Stadium Kaduna. An Igbo man in the name of Dr Ogbonaya Onu,who is now the minister of Science and Technology, emerged as its Presidential Candidate. That candidate was ditched when the party led by Mahmudu Waziri decided to go into Alliance with the Alliance for Democracy;Chief Olu Falae name was instead submitted to INEC as an Alliance candidate. The party “apologized” to Onu.

Why did the party refused to field Onu as its presidential candidate when the ANPP had more states than the AD could be any of the following;Mahmud Waziri wanted to be VP or the outgoing military decided that power must go to the South West by all means or the powers at that time simply don’t want an Igbo man supported by some northerners to defeat Obasanjo or because they were jittery of the possible future influence of the Ikemba of Nnewi who also supported Onu and sacrificed his ambition to be the chair of BoT of APP.

Since the restoration of democratic rule,no major political party has fielded an Igbo man.Late VP Alex Ekwueme tried unsuccessfully and gave up.There were other state Governors from the South East like Orji Uzo Kalu,Sam Egwu,Chimaroke Nnamani who tried and failed or gave up.However Gen Muhammadu Buhari, now President, twice fielded Late Chuba Okadigbo and Edwin Ume Ezeouke as Vice Presidential candidates, and he lost.Former VP Atiku Abubakar too nominated an Igbo, Senator Ben Obi and then ex Governor Peter Obi.
It’s a fact that Since the return of democracy, the only regions that have neither produced a president or a Vp are the North Central and the South East.

Who becomes the Presidential candidate is a decision of the party. The parties can decide to address the imbalance or maintain the status quo.The South East has a valid and legitimate reason to demand for an opportunity to produce a president.
Now,the secessionists threats, the attacks on police formations and INEC facilities and the attacks on Northerners living there is a set back and destructive to the region. The poor Hausa traders living in the South East are not Armed Herdsmen but ordinary Nigerians struggling to live. For whatever reason the attacks are carried out,its unhelpful and retrogressive. But it’s also instructive that Igbos should not be judged by the activities of a few who took to the road of violence. The fact that millions of Igbos still live peacefully in the North and other parts of the country and remained unmoved by the actions of their own kinsmen, should be the consideration.

The emergence of President Jonathan significantly quenched the hitherto raging fire in the Niger Delta; And the relative peace in that region can majorly be attributed to that. Its left for the major political parties to look at the larger picture and the historical context of Nigeria and ensure that this time around, justice and fairness should be the compass. However, party decisions are elites resolve. It requires a lot of consultations and sacrifice of personal ambitions. The primary focus of 2023 should be a consensus and a leadership that will unite the country. The cards are in the hands of decision makers of the main parties.A tragic mistake can plunge this country into deeper crisis and abyss.Lets prove those who want a united Nigeria right.

Una go beg tire

While everyone in honour of Yoruba's 93 Abiola victory stood down, Ogbanaya Onu contested against Olu falae and lost, Shameless Alex Ekweume contested against Obasanjo and lost

Most of this men where openly supporting Babangida and Abacha because they lost ordinary Vice President with Bashir Tofa.... They even organised one million match to mock and spite Yoruba

Dummy

As if Alex Ekwueme didn't win the primary but was forced to stand down for Obsanjo to settle the Yoruba's after what happened to Abiola

SS was settled with Goodluck Jonathan which was where zoning broke down after late Yaradua died

So why can't the elites & the people give the Igbo's a chance.
But now are generating excuses like merit

Merit is fine but that's how all of them here shouting merit will just watch & see how tinubu becomes president

Merit my foot if we are working with this failed system of government

Don't come here & twist history.

have u taken into consideration the fact that at least 1 million from all the figures of all these zones aside the southeast are southeasterners ? Remember that at least 40 percent of Igbo populations are outside of the southeast region?

Igbos have not less than 15million voting strength in Nigeria
