Re: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 16 by mantics(m): 11:46pm On May 28, 2021
Saw available date to be June 23rd which falls on a Wednesday. Is it safe to choose or they only attend to F1 applicants Tuesdays and Wednesdays only? Also on the DS160 form, Under have you made plans for travel, is it adviseable to select Yes and use the start date on I-20 as the Arrival date or like 10days earlier?

Lagos Interview
Appointment 7:30am
Date: 27th May 2021
US Student Visa Approved under 4mins

That is my story………my $51k COA is relatively high, and I didn’t have any funding, Yet the VO didn’t even ask for my bank statement.
I wish everyone the best of luck.
Congratulations

Thank you to all contributors here. You guys helped me through my journey. Thank you so much @schrodinger1 and @dodoyinsola for your help. I am super grateful.

I don't have so much to share from my personal interview experience however, from others that I listened to while waiting for my turn, it is best to go very prepared with lots of prayers. Study all transcripts on this forum and draft yours too. I drafted mine and went through the interview process with a Nairalander at least once. Treasure the advice on this platform....na real gold!

Wishing all other prospectives God's favour!

TRANSCRIPT

VO- Good morning
Me- Good morning

VO- Can I have your passport and documents
Me- Passed old and new passport and form i-20

VO- why did you give me two passports?
Me- One is my old passport. She immediately gave it back to me.

VO- Reads out...You are going to ...XYZ...University to study....ABC
Me- That's correct

VO- I can see you have assistantship
Me- Yes please

VO- Do you have proof of this
Me- Yes. Searched my documents, couldn't find the print out and I saw it stuck to the form i-20 I gave her. Told her to check beneath the form i-20. She didn't.

VO- Typed on her system and handed me the white paper with my documents while she kept my passport. Told me to pick up....
Me- Thank you and left.

Congrats dear. BTW, did you go with any form of bank statement to prove you can cover the $500 deficit? grin

If they released Wednesday dates then I suppose they are now ready to work on Wednesdays. All Wednesday’s in June were opened by them so I guess you are safe to choose it.

Schrodinger1:

No, It is not advisable. PhD without funding is subtle rejection.

This is so not true and very debatable. Some very good schools that I am very aware of, admit PhD students and only provide funding to about 10% of the admitted students, with the aim of funding more than half of the rest as soon they get enrolled in - Most of the time after the first semester. This is to ensure the profs get familiarised with the interest of the student.

So would you say they subtly rejected the rest because they didn't provide funding at the earlier stage? Yes it's good to be fully funded for a PhD student - so as to focus, but it doesn't always happen and doesn't mean it's a rejection, one can still head to the embassy and get a visa approval, because even VOs understand how it works. As long they can show financial provision for at least the first year.

Majority of the time they'll get funding in their second semester and in some cases even before the first semester elapses.

Choose any date available. If they have a problem with it, they will reschedule you themselves which I think is better.

As regards selecting yes to haven planned for your trip, I will advise you’re sincere while filling every aspect of your form. Hence, if no preparations have been made especially purchase of tickets, select NO and just fill your the length of your program and earliest travel date written on your I20
