Brand matters bro .... Good brand .....go to YouTube ..Project Farm has done series of test on brand of oil...some brand did better than others........

Most of the Nigerian brand will not meet international standard or sold overseas...... We agree Mobil 1 pays a lot for advertising etc ....but they also spend billions of dollars on research........

It is also very important to read reviews .. Just don't buy oil for the sake of buying oil .. Invest in what you are buying by reading reviews......

most of the stuff I do buy I read reviews from designer clothes, bags , restaurant etc ..... So I encourage you to read reviews... This has helped me and saved me money .....when you do read reviews focus on the bad ones .. Try to make sense why the review is bad and go from there........

Project Farm has over 1m subscriber .. He does not sell any product .. He does testing on products from engine oil to oil filter to mechanical tools etc just name it .. He does not take sponsorship from any company...

So I will take his advice over anybody else from either from nairaland or outside nairaland
.......

Some brands meet the basic requirement of API and some brands exceeds those requirements..

Please bros Wich prove do we have to confirm that this project farm does not take sponsorship?
Am just curious to know, cos if they do they wont tell us

Consumers could end up saving a great deal of time and money in repairing damages that were unbeknownst to them with they made the purchase.

Does it have the API certification seal?
If no, then na label u dey buy.
If yes, tread with caution... When its too good to be true, its probably not true. 15k for full synthetic oil in Nigeria of today is too good to be true, when the likes of coastal, hardex, stallion n co are hitting 13k already. Don't forget oando is a Nigerian coy...anything is possible

Thanks for your input.

why wont i be sincere?

my friend stand firm in your ideas, do not allow them cower you into submission with talks of spending billions over years and having nothing to show for it. you and them are not trying to do the same thing. they wanted to upload parts for over 1000 different vehiches from over 100 different vehiclemanufacturers on a database and that is why they failed. mind you, they were not doing it individually but as a franchaise meaning they had pooled resources from different channels of their various divisions to attempt the project. you can not find it easy to collate parts, description and prices of parts from mercedes, skoda, chevrolet, lamboghini, bently etc onto one single database and succeed without spending huge sums on research. remember you are not trying to rub sboulders with a coglomerate but only trying to satisfy a particular niche market aka the 9ja transportation environment.

if i were to be in your shoes, id look around my immediate environment first. ask myself what vehiches do transporters use the most because they are the ones who change parts more often than other road users. for uber i see toyota, honda, hyundai, kia and maybe other less used brands as peugeot and volvo. for mass transit i see korope busses and maybe keke.

now i make my research fo collate a database with parts for the 3 most used vehicle types for each manufacturer eg,

for toyota i will list parts, prices and part numbers for only the relevant years of corolla, camry and maybe yaris or matrix
for honda i will do just accord, civic and maybe city
for hyundai i could list for accent and maybe sonata
for kia just do rio and any other one
peugeot can have 406, 306, 206
volvo has its own s40 and s60
korope is usually suzuki every or daihatsu hijet
keke is optional sha but you get the jerk

you won't need millions of naira or months to collate a comprehensive database of most used parts and prices from ladipo for your webstore if you are running with the blueprint above. the other ones that spent millions of dollars wanted to cater for every single vehicle type on the face of the earth hence their frustrations/failure. you just need to cater to the needs of potential customers within your immediate localization first and over time you can learn to expand your scope as the market grows or changes. with a limited inventory of only parts from few manufacturers you can be fluid with making necessary adjustments to the specifics of your database like its ever changing prices in the market due to economic happenings at any given time plus you will not need many hands on deck (employees) to run your webtore for you. highest one front end, one back end and maybe three people to do the actual legwork in the market itself to collate parts and prices for the developers to work with.

if i were you i will start working on the dream you have, build up your webstore, find parts and prices for most used vehicles by readers on this forum like corolla, civic, rio, accent, accord, camry etc and go with the flow. remember once you've started it will not be easy for anyone to stop or discourage you again. people come to the cartalk section to inquire about parts on a daily basis, even on this thread people regularly ask for current prices of various parts too. those from other parts of the country that can not come down to lagos will have a look at your store for prices and availability too because most parts not seen elseshere are all in lagos. can you not see that it is very glaring that you will garner an audience from this forum alone once you have begun.

shun people that try to talk you down or out of your dream, they are small thinkers. strategy and zeal is all you really need bro. once you start your webstore and collate your database list you can monetize the website with google and get paid for ip specific visits too like other stores do.

He should buy sharply a car, the driver and the partner is putting up for sale, to cap it all the driver is still looking for a hire purchase car, if the car is that good, why can't the driver buy it or ask the partner to give him on hire-purchase.

That guy if u can see this, I am not discouraging you, but please don't buy sharply , buy it after doing due diligence and it suit you

Sense!!!

But also, the partner might just be in dire need of urgent bulk money and driver may not have saved up to that yet.

I sold a car before because I needed urgent cash. I still regret the sale till today. Car had no single fault.

As always, before u buy a car go along with a professional, and be flexible enough to know u may still need to fix one or two things especially a naija used car

Whether naija used or tokunbo, you go still fix things.

I have bought quite a number of cars and I've never bought any that does not have something that needs to be fixed.

If its not much of a bother, can you assist me with a sample agreement you have with one of your drivers

smiley no one is trying to cower him. We were being realists and trying to advice him just like you just did because he didn't seem to have a strategy or even a clear business plan. You gave it two seconds of thought and have a clearer plan than he presented. What he's talking about doing is not what you described. In fact, it's still not 100% clear what he's talking about with an online mechanic.

Again, I'm not his competition so it doesn't bother me one bit. He's used, I'm new. Both are sorely needed in Nigeria.

Let me give you an example of why a simple website can't handle what he says he's trying to do. What he's talking about is a very sophisticated website. The filter below fits a multitude of cars. What he wants is something like picture one that will take the information from picture two, cross reference and give you the car-specific search result in picture one. Those of you who code on this thread, I'm sure you know that is no small feat. It's similar to the Chinese postman optimized route algorithm. Now add to the fact that the same part with have at least three different part number variations in the Nigerian market. Then, don't forget since these are used parts, regular uploads of the actual item will also be required not generic images like ours. Also, the same part might be priced differently from each seller as well as depending on which vehicle the buyer said they needed it for. That's a lot of server space.
