IPOB Sit-at-home: Umahi Reverses Shops’ Forfeiture Order In Ebonyi by Antoeni(m): 12:42am On May 31, 2021 |
Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi State has reversed his order that traders who fail to open for business on Monday will forfeit their shops. Umahi during his statewide broadcast on May 29, had issued the forfeiture order to scuttle the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra sit-at-home agenda. IPOB had issued its sit-at-home order in the South-East with a threat to deal with those that might violate it which prompted Umahi to counter with his forfeiture notice on traders who might close shops on Monday. The governor’s reversal is, however, contained in a statement signed on Sunday by his Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Mr Francis Nwaze, and made available to NAN. Umahi, in the statement, disclosed that the state government had received several requests from some citizens who wished to remain at home on that day to organise personal prayers. “The prayer requests are to honour their loved ones killed during the Nigeria – Biafra civil war and most of those who made these requests are traders. Just like a footballer who starts limping just after missing an opportunity to score a clean goal in order to confuse the fans on what went wrong, so is Umahi who has made a U-turn to save face because he knows no one will honour his threats. This is not even because of MNK's comment on the issue but because he has realized that the same people whom he expects to monitor whom and whom didn't open their shops will be sitting at home as well; even his State's Secretariat will be desolate. This brings me to my question. Why are the SouthEastern governors ever hungry to appear politically correct? Before the FG accepted June 12 as the new democracy day, several Southwestern states already had it as a State holiday. Only recently; having hastily declared a public holiday for the Id El Fitr because Garba Shehu wrongly sighted the moon, the Muslims were shortchanged because their holiday should have been for Thursday and Friday and not Wednesday and Thursday. Guess what, most Northern governors declared public holidays in their states to make up for this goof. So what is the problem of governors ndi Igbo? Will Umahi, Ikpeazu, Uzodinma, Obiano or Ugwuanyi say they do not have family or kith who were casualties of the Biafran Civil war, or do they imply that the near-extermination of their tribesmen in a war for a sense of belonging is not worthy of honour? The Northerners are actually not the Southerner's problems. The Southerner's leaders are the Southerner's problems. 35 Likes 4 Shares |

He is such a useless governor and a coward, he shouldn’t have reversed his senseless order. Threatening traders as if he is the one who gave them loan or money to start up their business. If traders decided to open their shop or close it, how is that his business ? I still don’t get it, if traders decides to sit at home they will forfeit the shop, the shop they set up with their hard earned money without government support. Umahi stùpidity is highest order, he is last of his kind. Fòolish Governor 3 Likes |

It was a big gaffe by Umahi to make that order. Is he a military governor to make such order? I didn't believe it when I first heard it. 1 Like |

Biafra is bigger than him and he knows it, his attempt to please his Fulani bosses ruling Nigeria in Abuja will backfire and he quickly has to do a U-TURN, he can't even force civil servants to come to work today in his office 1 Like |
