...working to get second term ticket despite being over 60 years old In what seems like premeditated act, findings have revealed how Prof. Musa Adewale Olomu reduced his age to get the appointment as the Medical Director of the popular Federal Medical Centre, Idi-Aba in Abeokuta. Findings revealed that Olomu has two age declaration documents alongside three separate government employment documents with two different year of birth. The age declaration documents showed that while the one with 1960 as his year of birth was issued on 24th February, 1978, the one with 1964 as his year of birth was issued in 2nd March, 2009. From observation, it was discovered that the 1978 document has Wolemotu Musa who was reported to be Olomu’s mother as declarant, while the recent document has Akangbe Abdul Samiu as declarant. It was also discovered that while Olomu in two of his bio data forms submitted about a decade ago had 1960 as his year of birth, a recent one submitted in 2017 while getting the appointment as the MD of FMCA showed a different year of 1964. Olomu's personal particulars obtained showed that the embattled MD submitted 1960 as his date of birth while applying for hospital consultant surgeon at Olabisi Onabanjo University of Teaching Hospital, Sagamu in 1999. Another document of OOUTH obtained by this reporter titled: "personal record form A" with file no HC/PP 48 also has Olomu's handwriting with 6th January, 1960 as his date of birth. Corroborating this, a letter dated 27th April, 2021 signed by one A. A Awoyomi for the Chief Medial Director of OOUTH and addressed to the chairman of FMC board of management confirmed that, Olomu submitted 6th January, 1960 as his date of birth while filling his personal data when he applied for a job in the institution. The letter which has a titled: "RE: REQUEST FOR PERSONAL DATA OF PROF. ABDU-SAMIU ADEWALE MUSA" also confirmed that Olomu got his first appointment as consultant (surgeon) in the institution on 1st of July, 1999. Similarly, another letter and addressed to the chairman of FMC board of management dated 22nd April, 2021 by the Director of Administration of University College Hospital, Ibadan disclosed that 6th January, 1960 was what the hospital has in her record as Olomu's date of birth. The letter also confirmed that Olomu's first appointment with the institution was 1st March, 1991, while he was confirmed two years after in 1st March, 1993. The letter noted that the MD who was appointed as Senior House Officer (Surgery) did a change of name from Semiu Olawale Musa to Adewale Akangbe Abd-Samiu Musa on 25th January, 1988. (Change of name, not change of birth) Meanwhile, another document dated August, 2017 with a titled: "Federal Government of Nigeria Employee Payslip" showed that Olomu submitted a different year of birth while getting the appointment as FMCA MD. The document which has personal data of Olomu had 6th January, 1964 as his date of birth. This is however contrary to all other documents which Olomu has used before 2017. *OLOMU VIOLATES PUBLIC SERVICE RULES* Despite being above 60 years, Prof. Olomu has recently presented himself for second term in office. This attitude however violated the public service regulations and government circular. Institution like FMC, similar ministries, departments and agencies under the Federal Republic of Nigeria governed by a certain rules known as *Public Service Rule* this is where guidelines both on appointment and retirement of public servant are. Alteration or change in the date of birth presented while joining public service is a serious offence that is not being taken lightly. The Public Service Rule is clear about any public servant investigated and proven to have altered or change his date of birth could lead to his summary dismissal from the civil service. Also a circular signed by one Permanent Secretary( CMO), Ammuna Lawan-Ali dated 3rd February, 2009 and addressed to Head of the civil service commission with title: “Changes in Date of Birth, Date of First appointment/ Date of assumption of duty” noted that the provision of PSR 02108 (2007) of the Public Service Rules prohibits changes in date of birth/ first appointment from those first documented on entry into service. The circular further reads, “Date of birth recorded on appointments by an officer shall not be changed throughout the career of the officer. Any contravention shall be regarded as an act of serious misconduct which if investigated and proven could lead to summary dismissal. “In this connection, Heads of MDAs are hereby directed to put in place immediately, a well-structured and fool-proof mechanism for screening vital records of all officers serving in their agencies, especially records relating to their dates of first appointment and dates of birth. “For the avoidance of doubt, no alteration of date of birth/ date of appointment will be accepted.” OLOMU RISKS JAIL TERM In any part of Nigeria, falsification of age is a serious criminal offence. Most people falsify age through any of the following means; 1. By writing, stating, providing or verbally claiming wrong age. 2. By deposing to oath and making affidavit stating wrong age. 3. By re-writing, doctoring, erasing and forging documents containing age. As seen in the above instances, apart from falsification of age, most people also commit FORGERY in the process of falsifying age. Where a person that falsifies age is a judge/judicial officer bound to always state truth, such officer may also be charged with offence of FALSE EVIDENCE. In a publication by Learn Nigerian Laws, falsification of age includes the provision of false information and is punishable with imprisonment for not more than 6 months and or fine of not more than N40.00 but where the falsification of age/ false information is related to an offence or arrest, the offence is punishable with imprisonment for not more than 2 years and or with fine. Additionally, falsification of age/provision of false information that is designed to affect or influence the action or omission of a public servant (government) is punishable with imprisonment for not more than 1 year and or with fine of N40.00. Also, falsification of age/provision of false information by a judicial officer or any other person bound by oath to always state the truth, is a criminal offence punishable with 7 years’ imprisonment and fine. But where the falsified age is used at any judicial proceeding, the offence is punishable with imprisonment for not more than 14 years and with fine. Issuance or the use of certificate of birth with a falsified age is a criminal offence punishable with punishable with 7 years’ imprisonment and fine. Making or using of False Age Declaration/Affidavit of age is a criminal offence and punishable with 7 years’ imprisonment and fine Forging, Using, Possessing, Dishonest making and signing, Dishonest cancellation and alteration and the Dishonest procurement of another person to forge age document/certificate/affidavit or parts of such, are crimes of forgery. And, punishable with maximum of 14 years imprisonment and or with fine. *CONCERNED FMC STAFF MEMBERS AND SOME WELL MEANING NIGERIA CITIZENS DEMAND INVESTIGATION* A group of concerned staff members of FMC, Abeokuta has written a letter to the chairman of the board demanding an investigation into some of the atrocities allegedly committed by the Medical Director. The letter which was obtained by this reporter dated 26th January, 2021 noted that investigation conducted revealed that the embattled MD allegedly reduce his age so as to go for second term. The concerned staff members which cut across all professional groups and cares in the institution lamented that, the MD has more than two different date of birth. The staff members in the letter said "it is well known fact that Prof. Musa Olomu is older than what he claims to be. It is a fact of history that he is at least 64 years old. "The immediate past Medical Director of FMC Abeokuta who was his classmate in secondary school retired about three years ago his classmates in Medical school who work here at the moment will be retiring this year and he was said to be much older than them while on school. "We urge you and the men and women of proven integrity in your Board sir, to kidnky verify the above which we have stated with a clear conscience to rescue this noble hospital from the gross maladministration of Prof. Adewale Musa-Olomu." *FMC BOARD OF MANAGEMENT FINDS OLOMU GUILTY* In a report of fact finding committee on allegations raised against the FMCA MD dated 12th April, 2021 revealed that from evidences available to the board of management revealed that the Medical Director has tampered with his age. The fact finding committee led by Elder Gabriel Akpan had during observation submitted that the claim by the embattled Medical director that he was born in 6th January, 1964 is misleading looking at his educational history. The committee noted, “The Medical Director has always laid claim to 6th January, 1964 as his new date of birth proclaimed by his late father in contrast to the age proclaimed by his late mother. The father claimed the Medical Director’s birth day to be 6th January, 1964 while the mother had much earlier claimed the Medical Director’s birth day to be 6th January, 1960. “However, his educational history revealed he commenced secondary education in 1973. This implies that he commenced secondary education at the age of about 13 years according to the mother, while according to the father’s claim he (Medical Director) commenced secondary education at about 9 years of age. It is also noteworthy that he (Medical Director) had been using the 6th January, 1960 birth date until 2009.” Meanwhile, the Board members in the recommendation signed by six including the chairman of the board, Dr. AbdulAziz Labo Mahuta recommended that the fact finding committee has proven that the Medical Director tampered with his age. The board recommendation reads, “from the evidences available to the Board of Management through the Investigative Committee, the Medical Director has tampered with his age. “The fact that there are two different dates of birth used in his career progression contravenes the extant circular Ref. No: HCSF/PSO/004/T/66 dated 3rd February, 2009 ( vide Annexture VII). “The incumbent should be made to realize the implications of his actions within the purview of the law, especially the administrative and legal consequences.” *FMC BOARD REVERSES SECOND TERM RECOMMENDATION* In an approach to safe the institution, the Board of Management of Federal Medical Center, Abeokuta has reversed the endorsement of the incumbent Medical Director, Prof. Adewale Musa-Olomu for second term. The Board in a letter addressed to the Secretary to the government of Federation and dated May 11, 2021 said the reversal became imperative due to 'avanlache' of petitions and allegations against the incumbent. In the reversal of endorsement letter sent to SGF, *the Board of Management of the Center pleaded that the earlier endorsement be considered null and void*. "Please refer to our earlier correspondence on the request for 2nd term of tenure of office of the Medical Director of Federal Medical Center, Abeokuta. "The Board of Management of the Center seizes this opportunity to state categorically that avalanche of petitions and evidences confirming the allegations thereafter have necessitated that the intial endorsement be considered null and void. "In addition, the Board wishes to state that having weighed the administrative and judicial implications of the various allegations leveled against the incumbent Medical Director, Prof Adewale Abdus Samiu Musa-Olomu, *it becomes imperative to inform that all previous communication regarding earlier recommendation of his second term is hereby rendered invalid and of no consequential effects whatsoever*

This is the normal in Nigerian workforce. And we wonder why there aren't jobs when the ones who ought to retire long time ago to make space for new and fresh blood refuse to leave. If your parents are one of those folks all over the workforce who currently occupy a job and refused to leave when they are well past for retirement, then know that you are one of the problem in this country. 1 Like |

This Is why there are no jobs in the country, the old analogue bones have refused to retire to give way for the young ones who are meant to come with fresh ideas and rejuvenate our system. With these crop of people, that may never be. Everyone is a saboteur in their own capacity. A shame called Nigeria. |

I just hope another competent Yoruba guy would replace him... Because Yoruba at times foolishly pull down someone at our own expense. At the same time the embattled Director sef if he's a typical Yoruba would be shouting "meritocracy" just to ensure he doesn't assist people. Well... let him carry his cross, I can bet a fellow Yoruba is behind this campaign. Nothing tribalistic behind this post. Just being blunt. |
