How will you compare Bsc with ordinary HND.

To get admission in University, you need to score as high above 200 in JAMB.
But with just 120, you will get admission in any Polytechnic of your choice.

So you don't have reasoning? Common sense cannot tell you it's because of this same dichotomy that led to that?
This is the explanation: Too many candidates are applying for a University degree due to fear of dichotomy and superiority issue. Now candidates overwhelmed Universities draining that of polytechnic. This scenario warrants Universities to increase the their Cut-off mark as many Departments will not hold more than their quota.
If I may ask you why do some University Department cut higher than the other? The answer is clear, thesame thing apply to HND/BSc.
For quoting sake, I started with polytechnic, idah, went University of Calabar and University of Akron for postgraduate

Better... At least that would stop HND holders from being cheated when they do the same or even more work than their BSc. counterparts without getting recognised or promoted!

In my humble opinion, the national assembly should not have passed anything with regards the issue because no matter how they try, HND is not equivalent to Bachelors. The curriculum is not the same and the employment industries is also not the same if employment opportunities are readily available.

COREN will still not admit HND holders to Engineers register until they add a PGD. A Bachelors degree gets you on the Engineers register, HND gets you on the Technologist Register, OND gets you to the Technician register, and NABTEB, WASSC etc gets you on the craftsman register.

That's a system that the National assembly should not be interfering with. It is the responsibility of the ministry of education.

If both Bachelors and HND gets you to the Engineers register who then becomes a technologist.

Meanwhile, HND by training is designed to be employed as a technologist while the Bachelors is trained as an engineer. The best thing if they really wish to end the dichotomy is to abolish the HND and by implication the OND too. That is another complication arising.

Now this is what it mean Bsc and Hnd start on grade level 8 step 2 ,when u get to level 14 ,Hnd will have to present an approved masters, Bsc or equivalent to progress to 15 else oyo

This is rubbish why not scrape ND and HND make polytechnic straight 4 years plus change of syllabus.. Polytechnic syllabus is over outdated.. Then let polytechnic award B.tech as certificate... This will solve a lot of result delay problems, make polytechnic students more serious and make the whole process worthwhile

US colleges and universities accept HND graduates directly for MSc programs. World Education Services (WES) is one of the organizations who evaluate Nigerian degrees for advanced degrees in the US. If you have completed 120 credit hours at a college in Nigeria, your credential is evaluated as equivalent to a US degree and you're accepted directly into a Master's program.
You are right. However, some countries won't accept it. I think due to WES evaluation, only US currently accepts it. I once applied to a sch in Canada and I was told it's not acceptable.
I've tried to find out the status of the certificate and discovered that we are virtually the only country issuing it, others have done some modification, while we choose to get stuck in the mud.
Anyway, Na MSc be my own wahala for now, I don leave the 2 behind.

In many companies, employees from polytechnics perform far better than those from the universities. They work with more confidence, and with little or no supervisions on technical jobs. Graduates from universities are found to be fairly better when it comes to paper works. It’s rather very selfish to say the dichotomy shouldn’t be removed.

Exactly, that's the kind of training each gets so they are not the same as National assembly is trying to say.

A technologist doesn't really need to be a HND holder, ok. A bachelor of technology (BTech)can also be called a technologist.
Have you taken time to ask why some people are awarded BSc Engineering/BEng Engineering/BTech Engineering /BEngTech Engineering?
They are all Engineering degree but they are different in their field of training.
BSc Engineering: Engineering Scientist
BEng Engineering: Engineers
BTech Engineering /BEngTech Engineering: Engineering Technologist.
So, people can be trained to be a technologist and hold a degree in Engineering. Our problem in Nigeria is that we don't like to advance, hence the reason why our growth is so slow. Today in Ethiopia, nurses are allowed to carry out Caesarean(https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/av/stories-49666419), but if you suggest that in Nigeria you will hear even tailor telling you that it never, why should that be , it is not possible, but hey it does happen.
HND holders especially in STEM should be allowed to get to the pinnacle. If it may interest you it takes 120 credit load to get a degree in Nigeria (correct me if I am wrong), but it takes about 180 credit loads to get HND(that is why when you go for PGD 80% of what you ll be taught are what you have already done during your HND days )

This should not only be on job. It should include doing masters both in and outside the country after finishing HND not that they will tell u that u can't do masters with HND that is not recognized. The school aspect should be the major priority cus the HND is not recognized outside the country. They should make sure that HND and BSc is use and accepted like WAEC and NECO but in and outside the country.

HND is a diploma not a degree, it's difficult to equate HND and BSc.

You must be stupid for calling HND "ordinary"... In fact, your head nor correct. Forget about the "glorified" BSc entry criterion and other inflated curriculum. HND doesnt get the attention it deserves and doesnt get praised enough. How do you justify the seniority? Has any research be conducted to establish that BSc is superior in terms of impactation, knowledge, experience, exposure or even technology.

Not the same environment, the lecturers in universities have higher qualifications and training. You can find out.

Nigeria and Educational qualification. BSC and HND are totally different, and should never be on the same pedestal. Even advanced countries do HND to BSC upgrade courses, and not the other way round.

Polytechnics are not of same standard with Universities, that's a fact. Why then should their degrees be regarded as equal? A Master's degree holder can rise to become a chief lecturer (the highest rank in a Poly) or even rector in a Poly while such a person cannot become a Lecturer I in some Unis not talk of Senior lecturer, Associate Professor or professor as he has no PhD; or you feel PhD is a joke?

Yes, I quite agree with you on the fact that professional councils like COREN will not set their bar lower and its probably for a good reason. I was just having having that discussion with an engineer who did HND before going for his BSc. and MSc. I know the scope woudn't affect professional bodies or even academic institutions, but let them start applying it in civil service where the job description is the same for HND and BSc. Eventually, they should scrap HND and allow polytechnics issue ND and B Tech.

I don't know why this should be up for a debate
Are the criteria for getting into a university the same as Poly?
Is the syllabus the same?

And from my little observation, the products are significantly different.

Oh okay. Didn’t know that. Because when it was time for my masters all they told me was I need a Bsc. But that was UK though.

Then I guess there’s no point of a Bsc then. Everyone might as well do an HND if it’s equivalent. Because I believe HND’s are less rigorous to get admitted and complete than Bsc.
