There's an adage in Yorubaland that translates into: 'You're the one that sent for the robbers and you're the one that alerted the owners of the items stolen!' But, in the case of the failed, expired and extinguished contraption it's a totally strange scenario altogether!! The way & manner the fg prevents the indigenious people to prevent or rather defend themselves from these bloodletting & land grabbing vagabonds from the sahel!!! Mind you, these vagabonds are on a self-destruct mode!!!!!!! |

Akainzo: So how does NIN-SIM linkage help when the person receiving your call is not seeing your number. Or do you think it's NIN-SIM linkage that will tell telcos who is using a particular line? |

Noted Prof, Thanks for the shared knowledge and opinion!!! But note that Buhari, Pantami have those to give this clue in their respective crews but they won't make use of these advises cos it is to their detriment.... |

NIN cannot stop kidnaping because the victims phone can be used for Ransom call. However, NIN has reduced quick teller scammers to nonsense. Just last year here before the NIN stuff, Even kids less than 18 were now into scam, why? Because they can easily access sim cards. Infact some of them buy pre-registered sim to defraud people and discard it when done. The next day they buy another one. What I will suggest is a holistic identification system where you cannot open a social media account without imputing your NIN. and before the account will be opened, it must be verified by a government agency. This will go a long way to reduce internet scams. As for kidnaping, we must invest in drones, government should build drone stations along troubled areas in every state. The youths in Nigeria are increasingly getting useless by the day and government must take action to curb this get rich quick mentality. Well said bro... |

Agbegbaorogboye: Once the security services are interested, they will know who called you, even if the number is hidden. And from the person's SIM-NIN linked details then such a person can be picked up. We all leave digital footprints as we go about our normal business. Once your NIN is know, your bank account is know, your friends and family can be traced. You become an easy person of interest. |

Agbegbaorogboye: If you actually are, you'd not write such stuff that you wrote there. BTW, persons installing cell towers are not in the industry, they are simply workers. The persons in the industry are the IT folks that write the codes and know how these towers actually provide the services that they give to users. |

Akainzo:Lol. Stop saying what you don't know abeg. Whether I install cell tower or write "codes", fact is there's no way you can just pick all the subscribers in a tower and say you want to track kidnappers that way. It sounds dull given the capabilities of geolocation and geopositioning. It's a wild goose chase. If you know anything at all, you won't even mention that. |

Angrygoat: There is no doubt it can be tracked. The point is that Nigerian security cannot track them. |

Akainzo: Do you realise both NIN and SIM reg have the details of a subscriber? This your thinking is what exposes your ignorance just like that of the minister. Let me tell you. When he first brought the NIN-SIM linkage idea which was more because nimc was moved to his ministry from the Presidency and he wanted to prove they are related, telcos opposed it because, just as the op read, it will make it difficult for a foreigner or even a Nigerian who has been away for long to access Telco services. This will also encourage roaming by such persons which actually makes more money for the home network they use instead of our local network. Again, there are many ways to bypass this your NIN-SIM linkage thing. Have you thought about WhatsApp calls. I hope you know you can use a different number (even foreign) on WhatsApp from the one you're registered with. Also, there's call masking that can also show a number different from yours when you make calls. SIM reg already solved the problem of subscriber identity. So linking with NIN was just a superficial idea with no effect as has been proved over time. What Nigerian security services should be concerned about is geolocation and geopositioning and of course usage of drones and CCTV. So rest. Linking NIN with SIM makes no difference because they actually capture same details for an individual. This is besides the fact that NIN registration is not as seamless as SIM reg is. Or have you not heard how people have been suffering to register? 1 Like |
