Whatever you were supposed to do to better your life you didn't do in the past, start doing them now. It may be harder but if you don't do them now, it will become a lot harder to do them in the future if you really want to succeed.

Lastly, listen to a lot of aspire to Maguire. They help. grin

Calm down.

Grab any practical or theoretical knowledge you can, even if you are helping sell spare parts, barber, massager, shoe making, sewing, street cleaner, cook, or whatever that is the practical side, you might not like it, but it will teach you about the business, technical, and the communication skills.

The theoretical side would be like, if say, you study about a programming or other professional interest. Video games, apps, welding, electrical, ship crew or sailor (not the Nigerian group sailors), etc. Patience is involved in anyway you choose,

Remember that, only You will have to peak your own interests. Nobody can do it for you. People can inspire you but you will convince yourself to peak your interest. Do anything with this in mind, am sure you will find your interest. From what I'm getting from you, it is not the effort that is lacking it is the passion to be efficient with your effort. We all pray for this.

Hello everyone,
Bear with me pls, this might be a long read and I apologise in advance for any grammatical error.

Recently I've had a lot of thinking about my life after school, how I can finally support my family after I graduate this year, I am the first son and the first child in my mom's extended family, so I have a lot of people looking up to me, and we only have one source of income in my family which is my dad, and recently he developed a health condition which affects his eyesight, and that is making his work nearly impossible.
The problem now that I'm facing is that I literally don't know what I want to do after school, normally I've had this notion that I will cross that bridge when I reach there, but now the bridge is so close and I have no idea of how to cross, to make things worse, I saw my result this semester and I failed two courses which will make me to come back for an extension, it makes me sad whenever I think about it, cos my dad will have to continue his risky job (thats even riskier cos of his eyesight) for a year or so
Sad part is that I can't even think of any side job that might be profiting me while in school or any work that I can do without a certificate, my friends aren't giving me anything useful, I wanted to learn graphics design, I'm passionate about editing photo and videos, I also wanted to learn animation back when I was in secondary school, but my parents killed that dream telling me to go for a professional course, back then they were still thinking school is the only answer to being successful, now I regret allowing them to let that passion die.
Right now I need you guys advice if you have any concerning my situation, or if you've being in a similar situation like mine, I need to know how you made it out successfully

I will accept your criticism, advice and whatever piece of info you can share with me
Calm down

I understand how you feel. Even those with certificates as Engineers, doctors and Nurses in Nigeria are beginning to have difficulty having a life fulfilling pre-occuoation these days. But this problem is a "Nigeria thing". The leaders have made the country a dream killer and an aspiration murderer. So even if you have the brightest of ideas, the country will kill it.

If Jeff Bezos, Mark Zuckerberg or Elon Musk were Nigerian, they will most likely be southerners because the southerners are the ones that are more predisposed to modernisation and the development it brings. Unfortunately, the fulani or Federal government would have frustrated their ideas and they would have possibly ended up being a louts or yahoo boys.

So my advice to you is to try and have some basic qualification here that is of value (usually IT and Machine learning) in the west. Then try to relocate to the west to study further and consolidate the basics you have acquired here. Once you get to the west, the sky is your limit.

It is never too late to acquire a new skill and earn a decent living. In my school days I had to stop listening to my parents advice and stayed focus on what I want in life. If I had followed my Dads advice I would have endup being an immigration officer making me a complete useless person, Everything is now history though. Most often parents from poor background lack the foresight required to guide there children to become successful in life all they talk about is graduate with a good grade and start job

Lots of Nigerian youths are too comfortable with mediocrity! Yes the country and the government is no good but are we really that worse than India, Pakistan or Yemen? Yet we see many of the youths in those countries excelling on Fiverr, Upwork and other freelancing sites.

Most youths don't graduate university before 24, most while in the university never bother to learn life skills or side gigs that can bring in income, y'all keep dreaming about graduating and starting an imaginary job earning 200k and above. Nigeria produces over 100,000 graduates a year, the number of available positions paying 100k or more starting salary is less than 20,000, how una wan do am?

The sooner you realize the future is innovation the better! Someone bringing in zero income is a lot worse than someone bringing in 100-300k per month from side gigs alone. BE WISE, there are lots of things you can do as a freelancer and still have time for other things, invest in your damn self and stop worrying about the things you cannot control like the Nigerian economy.

Examples of good skills:

1. Graphic design
2. Search Engine Optimization
3. Youtube Marketing
4. Article/product page writing
5. Social media growth(Follow & unfollow method)

Hej, I was once like you in this situation thinking about what life holds for me. I was also the first of five siblings, meaning a lot of responsibility hinged on my shoulder. I graduated with a second class lower in Agricultural sciences which means I was literally almost not employable. I know what it feels like but to be in despair but I can reassure education is not a waste of time.

Firstly you might have to consider relocating abroad. Sweden is a great country to move over and you can pick up life from here. Secondly, education is the easiest route to migrate to Sweden from Nigeria. Why Sweden Sweden is the home of companies like Volvo, Scania, Ericsson, Tetra Pak, Skype, Spotify, IKEA, H&M, Electrolux. These are some of the biggest companies in the world and they're headquartered in Sweden. Now, what does that tell you about Sweden's economy?... Yeah, strong! They're even ranked the most innovative country in the European Union. Swedish higher education system is ranked top-5 in the world.

Your Swedish residence permit card for studies grants you visa-free travel to 26 countries in Europe including France, Italy, Germany, Holland, Switzerland, Belgium, Austria, Spain, Finland, Denmark, Norway and many others. All you have to do is buy your train, bus or flight tickets and get on board, no visits to any embassy. Even though this does not apply to the UK, Ireland and some other countries, but a visit to the Eiffel Tower of Paris, the fjords of Norway, the Alps of Austria or the home of Santa Claus in northern Finland should be enough to fulfill your tourist dreams.

Many people do not have the courage to take the necessary steps to achieving their dreams, but I can tell you Sweden is a great place to pick up your life again.

[quote author=Dukeolumidemans post=102512790] Bro I was once in ur shoes. But I noticed early that u don't need to wait for the future. U dream it exactly how u want it and create one for urself.
U need the following:
1. Self confidence.
2. Self motivation
3. A mentor
4. A target of what who u want to be in life
5. Have a plan and follow it
6. U need discipline, focus. zeal to succeed and never look back.
7. Focus on a few like-minded friends.
8. Leave women now and make money. They will come in numbers when u blow up.
9. Chase profitability (being ur own boss) and not salary (job).

Note: It's not about ur religion, sex, tribe or age, u can succeed legitemately just like me and so many others who came from the slum.

Kudos bro.....u nailed it .....I wanted to cry when am reading this ....u av said it all.. nobody is a failure unless u chose to be put ur self together and explore.....I was in his shoe once like that but with confidence and zealous I overcome.....

You'll be fine brother. Think network marketing. That's the business of the 21st century and there are a few good companies out there. I could show you one if you don't mind. As for your dad, I could give you our vision Vitale which goes for 15k for free. Your dad will definitely regain his eyesight in a month. We've got great testimonies out there. Kindly reply if interested.

Pls, note this....It is never too late to start or RESTART.

If you still want to do your animation.........Go to the link below. Look for a course that you think will fit what you aspire to do. I am not an animation person so I can't advise you on that. You can contact people in the field already to advise you so you can make a good choice.

Pick a course and I will pay for you but let it below £20.00 (approx 12k or thereabout). This is what I can afford.

You can use that as a stepping stone. Start looking for gigs (jobs) from upcoming actors. You can even use your little skills to make skits and upload online, etc....many way to skin a cat but Na small small. All na packaging. You have to get "big mouth" o and claim you have plenty experience else nobody will give you any job...

Nothing is impossible...

Hey bro don't be faster than the fastest news..

First of, what is that skill you have passion for....What are those things you can do all day without complaining...Those things are where your money and talent is locked.

Discover them, be bold....take on them, smile to the bank...save and invest in other things...create job for yourself and employ people...

Note, it will take time, years etc...

People will seek for you, because of what you can provide...as well as the solution you can proffer with that your skill/talent...

Don't rush into what worked for Mr jerry, because you are not him...it worked for him, Is never a guarantee it will work for u..

It is not easy being first...You will work while others rest.....Especially in a country like ours...Just don't sleep or get worried...stand up and take the bull by its horn...U see that certificate if u graduate, keep it for your parents.....Study like a graduate and hustle like a non graduate...You only split your eggs in different baskets.
