1. Igbo: Igbo, also called Ibo, people living chiefly in southeastern Nigeria who speak Igbo, a language of the Benue-Congo branch of the Niger-Congo language family. The Igbo may be grouped into the following main cultural divisions: northern, southern, western, eastern or Cross River, and northeastern. Before European colonization, the Igbo were not united as a single people but lived in autonomous local communities. By the mid-20th century, however, a sense of ethnic identity was strongly developed, and the Igbo-dominated Eastern region of Nigeria tried to unilaterally secede from Nigeria in 1967 as the independent nation of Biafra. By the turn of the 21st century, the Igbo numbered some 20 million. 2. Igala: Igala, also spelled Igara, a largely Muslim people of Nigeria, living on the left bank of the Niger River below its junction with the Benue River. Their language belongs to the Benue-Congo branch of the Niger-Congo family. Their ruler, the ata, traditionally also governed two other groups, the Bassa Nge and the Bass Nkome, who live between the Igala and the Benue River. Traditional Igala society was politically organized as a kingdom. Kings were divine and were surrounded by numerous taboos; they held elaborate courts attended by a host of officials and servants, many of them slaves and eunuchs. All divine kingdoms in Africa had customs that acted as checks on the power of the king. This included a custom in which the queen mother could chastise the king; she was the only individual who was able to do so under the taboo system. The Igala have been primarily an agricultural people, growing a wide range of crops typical of the area, including yams, taro, pumpkins, squash, corn (maize), manioc, and peanuts (groundnuts). Palm oil and kernels have become significant as cash crops. 3. Fulani: Fulani, also called Peul or Fulbe, a primarily Muslim people scattered throughout many parts of West Africa, from Lake Chad, in the east, to the Atlantic coast. They are concentrated principally in Nigeria, Mali, Guinea, Cameroon, Senegal, and Niger. The Fulani language, known as Fula, is classified within the Atlantic branch of the Niger-Congo language family. 4. Kanuri: Kanuri, African people, the dominant element of the population of Bornu state in northeastern Nigeria and also found in large numbers in southeastern Niger. The Kanuri language is classified as belonging to the Saharan branch of the Nilo-Saharan family. 5. Bini: Edo, also called Bini, people of southern Nigeria who speak a language of the Benue-Congo branch of the Niger-Congo language family. The Edo numbered about 3.8 million at the turn of the 21st century. Their territory is west of the Niger River and extends from hilly country in the north to swamps in the Niger Delta. Edo is also the vernacular name for Benin City, the centre of the Benin kingdom, which flourished from the 14th to the 17th century. Source: Britannica.. 35 Likes 4 Shares |

iampeterben:Hahaha. You just read my mind. They kept saying our being more educated and developed was because lagos was a former state capital. Whereas before Lagos, capital was once in the south-south, calabar to be precise. The relics of Lugard and Flora Shaw are still there till today. From there to Lokoja and later Zungeru( northern colonial HQ) before Lagos. All these places never experienced development in spite of the federal presence. Amazingly, they all had waterways too, except Zungeru. Finally, was moved to Abuja...yet all these regions aren't as economically viable as Yorubaland. Academically, we've got no match. They always say ibos in lagos made it so developed as it is, as if there are no ibos in calabar, lokoja, Abuja, zungeru and other parts of Nigeria too. In kano alone, they're in millions, not to talk of kaduna. We have the zeal and passion for progress even up to the national level. Most of the federal government ideas today were our initiatives. Yoruba anyday! 67 Likes 6 Shares |

Eriokanmi:You are deceiving yourself, Lagos was capital of Nigeria for more than 70 years, all those places you mentioned did not held as capital for more than 2 years. That is when the British was conquering territories before settling in Lagos. Read your history man. 115 Likes 13 Shares |

Odingo1:You are right, Lagos retained the status for much longer . But federal presence didn't play any reasonable role in developing the state or region. Everything was concentrated on ikoyi and some parts of island. The state witnessed development more rapidly after the FCT was moved to abuja and all the MDAs were relocated. I've lived here all my life man 29 Likes 5 Shares |

Igbo's have been the most bravest from time immemorial. From constantly opposing the invasion of white men to fighting the whole world power in the 1967 civil war. Which the so called Nigerians are deceiving themselves that they fought Igbo (Biafra). The only tribe that has the effrontery to fight Fulani's terrorist in their land despite the immerse support of the Federal Government. If I go on to mention a whole day won't be enough 107 Likes 16 Shares |

Ahmeduana: He's putting on an Igala costume. It's an Igala cultural movie. The title is Inikpi. So he's a Yoruba actor that acted as Prince Attah Ayegba (Igala prince), son of Sam Dede as Attah Ayegba (Igala king) 18 Likes 1 Share |
