The gallant troops of Operation HADIN KAI decisively dealt with ISWAP terrorists who attempted to infiltrate Dikwa town on Tuesday, 8 June 2021.

The terrorist elements mounted on 5 Gun Trucks, some on mortocycles and other foot soldiers tried to infiltrate the town through Gajibo axis but were met with superior fire power by troops in conjunction with air bombardment by Air Task Force.

The marauding terrorists were thoroughly vanquished forcing them to withdraw in high state of confusion abandoning their truck, guns and ammunition.

During the encouter, 6 members of the terrorists groups were neutralized, several others were severely injured while the survivors withdrew in total disarray leaving behind their dead collegues.

Items recovered during the encounter include 1 Gun Truck, 8 Ak 47 rifles, 40 rounds of 7.62mm Special, 39 special ammo, 3 motorcycles and 6 magazines.

To mop up the area, troops conducted exploitation in the early hours of today in conjunction with Civilian Joint Task Force and Hunters along the terrorists withdrawal routes and recovered 90 rounds of 7.62 mm x 54 on links belonging to the fleeing terrorists.

Sadly however, 3 soldiers sustained various degrees of injuries but are in stable condition as they are receiving treatment at the field Ambulance in Dikwa.

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Major General Faruk Yahaya has extended his commendation to the gallant troops over the feat and charge them to remain resolute and steadfast. He added that the tempo must be maintained to ensure total obliteration of terrorist groups within the North East region.

NIGERIAN NAVY LAUNCHES NEW WARSHIP

The Nigerian Navy (NN) has today launched a new Landing Ship Tank (LST) at Damen Shipyard, Sharjah, United Arab Emirates. The construction of the ship began about 2 years ago and when commissioned, will replace the first set of LSTs of the NN, NNS AMBE and NNS OFIOM which have been decommissioned.

The introduction of the LST to the NN inventory will bolster NN sealift capability. Specifically, it would enhance the transportation of troops, military hardware, vehicles in the conduct of maritime security operations launched from sea as well as supply of relief material during period of national emergency. Furthermore, the vessel will serve as a critical component of naval power projection for enhanced maritime security in the Gulf of Guinea and beyond. In its secondary role, the LST will play a critical role in the protection of maritime assets and preservation of law and order at sea, thus contributing significantly to promotion of global maritime commerce, peace and safety.

The new LST has a complement of 32 crew and 250 embarked persons and a length of 100.08m. She is powered by 2 Caterpillar/Cat 3516 C-rating engines and 4 Caterpillar C-18 generators. Furthermore, she has an endurance of 15 days @ 15 knots. If she is to be used for humanitarian missions/evacuation, she can accommodate over 450 persons on its upper and lower decks in short trips.

The bid opening process for the procurement of the LST was held on 19 December 2017 and supervised/conducted by a team from the Bureau of Public Procurement as well as a technical committee of the Nigerian Navy. The Shipbuilding companies that participated were Damen Shipyards of the Netherlands, Anadolu Deniz of Turkey and Indian Shipyards GOA of India. On 13 June 2019, the NN and Damen Shipyards signed the final general arrangement plan and specifications on the LST 100 and this date of 13 June 2019 became the effective date of contract for the LST 100. The contract duration as agreed by both parties was approximately 36 months from the effective date of contract. The Keel laying ceremony for the LST 100 was held on the 9 December 2019 at The Damen-Albwardy Shipyard in Sharjah the UAE. The immediate past CNS Vice Admiral IE Ibas placed the Nigerian Navy insignia into the keel and sealed it.

Over the last 2 years several Factory Acceptance Tests with regards to various components of the LST 100 have been jointly and successfully completed by the NN and Damen Shipyards. Most notable among these FAT’s was the main propulsion engines tested in 2019/ 2020 and the Remote Weapon system which was also successfully tested in March 2021.

Damen Shipyards is one of the biggest multinational shipbuilding groups in the world, operating more than 50 shipbuilding and repair yards worldwide. On the African continent, they operate a full shipbuilding yard in South Africa and in Port Harcourt Nigeria, they operate a fully equipped maintenance yard. The LST contract is being handled by DSNS (Damen Schelde Naval Shipbuilding) the naval shipbuilding arm of Damen shipyards and the ship is being constructed at the Damen-Albwardi Shipbuilding Yard in Sharjar in the UAE.

Bubu's nomadic government no dey hear

To think this Buhari supported restructuring in broad daylight and most of us supported him to the hilt against all odds only to get there with his APC hypocrites and reneged on every promise they made including paying 5k NGN to every unemployed youth, massacred our Federal Character system that kept this country together for decades plus many other over reach indifferent actions is something that will not be quickly forgotten even after he leaves office. In a restructured Nigeria a Fulani man may struggle to ever see that Aso Rock again.

"Bubu has messed up Nigeria's pluralism leading to agitation everywhere in Naija yet expecting to kill every fly which is impossible"

Bubu thinks government is to sit down borrow money and share revenue without any innovative programmes of how to fundamentally better the country and its citizens economically, socially and politically.

Yes it is true he has modestly modernized the Armed Forces with new weaponry, started or completed some infrastructure projects but much of the country is still physically broken down and the fundamentals of a viable society is completely missing including security which does not come by just buying weapons, changing security chiefs and demanding security but by giving justice to society by galvanizing them into a national dialogue to address their grievances. It is not by sending our beloved army to quell insurrections that could be wisely avoided in the first place.

Clearly a child must be running this country as it is but it is great a few good men are willing to show Bubu they are not all like him even if they are his kinsman. This Buhari has failed us.

Everytime I remember the 2015 campaigns I have a bitter regret. A regret of a life time.

TERRORISTS have attacked three villages in Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara State, killing four people and kidnapping 60 women in the process.

The attacks, which took place on Tuesday in Munawa, Malele and Randa villages, led to the killings and kidnap of residents, and the burning of huts and buildings within the area.

According to a report, the men in the villages had fled the town based on information received prior to the attack.

Efforts made by The ICIR to reach Spokesperson of the Zamfara State Police Command Mohammed Shehu and the Army Spokesperson Mohammed Yerima yielded no result as both neither picked their calls nor respond to WhatsApp messages sent to them.

Security in Nigeria has declined over the past few years, particularly in the North, due to the incessant killings and increased rate of mass abductions.

Kidnappings such as these have become a disturbing trend, leaving residents in constant fear and anxiety.

In April, The ICIR reported the killing of over 80 people in attacks by terrorists across five villages in Zamfara.

A few days ago, over 30 people were reportedly killed in terrorist attacks across villages in Zurmu Local Government Area of Zamfara.

Tension, Anger In Police Academy As Nigeria Police Refuse To Pass Out 418 Cadets Enrolled Since 2015

There is anger at the Nigeria Police Academy, Wudil, Kano State, as the police authorities led by the Inspector-General of Police, Usman Baba, failed to pass out 418 cadet Assistant Superintendents of Police who had been enrolled since 2015.

SaharaReporters learnt that the cadets came in December 2015 and after spending the statutory five years, should have have passed out since December 2020, but the authorities kept bringing up excuses.

SaharaReporters was told that inefficiency at the NPF Academy has stalled the passing out of the cadet ASPs amidst the shortage of policemen to quell insecurity in the country.

Some of the cadets told SaharaReporters that life is no longer meaningful in the academy where they are without freedom, fed with substandard meals and denied access to their families.

One of them said, “What is bewildering is the fact that we, the Cadet ASPs Regular Course Three, were admitted in December 2015 for five academic years which terminated in December 2020. For six months now, we have been doing nothing in the academy.

“I know at least six cadets who have lost their parents this year and were not able to see them or pay their last respects, due to the restrictions around here. The police authorities have refused to organise our passing out, despite the arrival of a new Inspector General of Police.”

“It is not so for our colleagues in the National Defence Academy. At a time our nation is confronted with many threats occasioned by security challenges experiencing across all parts of the country, and most importantly, the fact that the current management of the force has confessed that the Nigeria Police Force presently is understaffed and therefore confronted with inadequate manpower, why are we still here?” another cadet queried.

“We ought to have been commissioned since December 2020 to start police duties. Our passing out has been postponed several times when the NDA passed out in October 2020. Many dates have been fixed for our POP – April 1, April 12, and May 25, all in 2021 and none of these dates has seen the light of the day.”

SaharaReporters learnt that the academy is presently screening the Regular Course 8 despite not passing out the Course 3, which is giving the cadets a lot of worry.

Another cadet said, “The worst part of it is that it is obvious the force management has forgotten us in the academy and presently they don't even know when we will be passing out. The school authorities are set to commence screening of Course 8 on June 19 whereas the Regular Course Three Cadet ASPs have been abandoned in the academy without being commissioned.

“The questions that have remained unanswered are: What could be the political gains or reasons that are meant to be achieved with this delay? What politics could the management be playing with the destiny and future of young cadets?

“One can wonder the psychological trauma these cadets are going through having stayed five years, 6 months and still counting in the academy,” a source at the academy said.

The terrorists are preventing some farmers in Zamfara, Northwest Nigeria, from farming until levies are paid to them.

Farming communities in Zamfara State, Northwest Nigeria are distressed as terror groups operating in about five local governments are demanding levy before they will be allowed to have access to their farm to commence the farming season.

Terrorists are asking the communities in Anka, Birnin Magaji, Bakura, and Zurmi Local Government Areas, including Dansadau in Maru to oblige with the demands to pay the levy and have a hitch free farming season in their respective farmlands, or face attack, HumAngle has learnt.

A villager who simply gave his name as Manuga, told HumAngle that terrorists operating in Bakura Local Government Area of the state made the demand through a telephone call to a resident in one of the affected communities.

He said that two communities in the local government have been asked to make a payment of 12 Million within a space of three weeks.

“Prior to this notice, the terrorists group located in Faggi forest that leads to Shinkafi, Gandi forest axis, tasked Faggi community to pay N7 million, in March, 2021,” revealed another villager whose name is Hamza Bakura.

“So also, the group billed Dankaiwa District, they asked the villagers to pay N15 million in early Dec. 2020.”

HumAngle learnt that residents of Rumu, Doka, Tangaran, Jarkuka and Tungar-Nabarau villages of Wuya ward, in Anka Local Government area the state have vacated their respective villages after what they described as unbearable levies by the terrorists.

Findings in Zurmi Local Government Area revealed that the farmers from Nasarawa Mailayi, Kiyawa, Gusami Gari, and Gusami Hayi villages are currently being denied access to their farms in the outskirts of their villages.

In Dansadau District of Maru Emirate, farmers told HumAngle that they have continued to receive threats from different terror groups demanding to make similar concessional payments, to access to their farming without hindrance.

However, some villagers said they have resolved not to yield to the demands of the terrorists. One of such villagers noted that despite the threats by the terror groups, they resolved and vowed not to pay any penny to them for seasonal farming exercises to hold.

“Few among us who can afford the costs, farm at our farms. For instance, if 20 labourers are to work at my farm, I then hire 50 of our local vigilante group to guard the workers while they work in order to repel any attack from terrorists,” Bala said.

There are millions of ordinary people affected by conflict in Africa whose stories are missing in the mainstream media. HumAngle is determined to tell those challenging and under-reported stories, hoping that the people impacted by these conflicts will find the safety and security they deserve.

To ensure that we continue to provide public service coverage, we have a small favour to ask you. We want you to be part of our journalistic endeavour by contributing a token to us.
