Buhari: Local Government System Has Been Killed by Doraty1(f): 10:50am On Jun 10, 2021
President Muhammadu Buhari has said that the local government system has been killed and not properly functioning.

Buhari stated this while responding to a question during an exclusive interview on the Morning Show on ARISE TV, the broadcast arm of THISDAY, Thursday.

He said, ”Devolution of powers, you have to define it. Well actually the local government system has been killed. The federal, state and local government if they agree to flow properly we won’t have all these problems. But the problem is the local government has been virtually killed and this is not good for this country, because those who became the local government chairman have been compromised. If your local government is entitled to receive 300 million and later you are only given 100 million.”

Most Nairalanders don't know the name of their LGA chairman

criminals are not spirits, they are our brothers and sisters

kidnappers are our friends and neighbors, if we defend our community properly they will not find anywhere to hide.

if our community are properly organised, a criminal cannot kill someone in Andoni LGA and run to Ankpa LGA to hide.

Your community would have a Civil registry, they know when a stranger comes into the community. it used to be like that in the olden days. you must first show yourself to the king

the thing is that some local government are weak because they are too small because they isolate themselves instead of networking with other community.

why do human beings need family?
same reason is why we need community

Isolation is dangerous, and causes over dependence on the governor.

the local government has so weakened that is why crime is on the increase

How is he one of the people that killed it? As for me, it's Governors that killed the LG

More power needs to be giving to the LGAs.

I agree with the mannequin on this one

Governors have no regard for local government representatives.

Saint Makinde has even vowed to go against court order compelling him to reinstate local government representatives he unlawfully sacked in Oyo State.

That's bad for our already dented democracy.

At the end of this Buhari government, every surviving citizen deserves to be given a "CERTIFICATE OF SURVIVAL" and a strong hand shake

That's true, the state governors are milking the allocation given to the LG chairman or caretaker and the reality on ground is that real development starts from the grassroots i.e. Local government

Judiciary arm of Government have also been killed!!!

Judiciary, that we all claimed should be the hope of a common man, was on strike for two months....No single solidarity from the useless labour unions....Is it not Judiciary we are all suppose to rally round

We have allowed the governors to silence Judiciary

Whether what the president said is true or not, they are people who are just looking for something to pick and criticise him, even if there is nothing to pick, they will criticize for lack of nothing to pick.

This is true. You cant blame all the problems on just one man. The local government autonomy was killed by state governments for more power. Lets put hate aside, if you become president tomorrow, how will you be able to fix this.
