Drama queen Samuel. The school should change its systems, scope, mission and curriculum because of your child. Is it not more reasonable to withdraw your child or meet with the school board/authorities to straighten your differences instead of the drama?
.
Is that not what we have been telling you guys, to get out of the North, if you are not comfortable with our local sharia law.

There's nothing wrong with the Arabic language. It's only reasonable that the accepted lingua franca and major languages should be what a country should use. Otherwise we might as well use French and Portuguese and Hindi. Arabic is not an official language in Nigeria. Like i said, there's no problem having it there, except that it hardly makes sense.
Well, it make sense for northerners, who have been using Arabic to communicate for centuries. What do you know about the term"Ajami"?

This is absolute nonsense, bonkum. It's said that, if you cannot stand the heat in the kitchen, get out of the kitchen.
Why take your child to a christian school, why not look elsewhere where religion is not recognized. I hate nonsense jare.
Stop looking for cheap publicity, just withdraw ur child from the school and let us rest.

They teach sex education in US but they still have loads of "unwanted pregnancies, sexual diseases and molestation by pedophiles". What do you say about that?

Are you very sure of what you wrote about the U.S? Don’t speak from hearsay and make unprovable claims.

They don't need to change anything, they just don't need to force down religion her throat. Just to respect her parent's decision. How hard can that be?

Is it not more reasonable to withdraw your child or meet with the school board/authorities to straighten your differences instead of the drama?

Withdraw withdraw withdraw!!! Where is this crap coming from really? Just listen to yourself now. A parent said don't indoctrinate my daughter, the next thing you said is come and withdraw your daughter! Must you indoctrinate kids against their faith?

There were Muslims and animists in my junior high school class who gladly studied RK. And unless your kid isn't brilliant, RK or CRS is actually one of the easiest subjects . Also, Madam, no knowledge is ever lost, so stop the rant.

I'm a Christian, my daughter's mom is a Muslim, but she attends a school where she's to study a different religion as a subject and partake in religious celebrations. When she's old enough, she can decide which religion to be affiliated with.

N.B: Before anyone judges me, I've come to believe that no matter your religion, we all worship one God. And some of my best friends are Muslims.

You can fast, pray and practice your religion. However, what manner of man are you if you have an evil heart? Just name one act of wickedness in Nigeria that doesn't cut across every religion practiced in the country.

The heart of man .....

My daughter's mum? As opposed to wife or am I missing something?
The other part, you just want your kid to grow up confused.

Yes, because sex education is more useful (eg, helps prevent unwanted pregnancies) than IMPORTED FOREIGN religions…

Doing religious studies doesn’t mean you are being indoctrinated with a certain belief.

What CRS taught me that year was reconciliation, forgiveness, fortitude, charity and tolerance. I think these virtues exist in other religions as well... in Islam, in the Odu Ifá. The purpose of education is to expose us to that which we do not know, to help us have an understanding or enlightenment and make us more accepting... and those that cannot listen to others or to the contrary are not yet educated and that is why I think that Mrs Adetutu's concern should be listened to as well.

However, having listened, I cannot commend her activism, as it lacks premises or reason... but even the absence of such premises or reason shouldn't be the basis of disrespecting another's view. While I think her request should be respected, I hope she allows herself to be informed of the likely consequences of her action which sadly it is her child suffering. Such consequence includes but is not limited to the insight the little girl would be losing but also the opportunities that such knowledge or evidence of such knowledge affords. The little girl however may be made to take an hybrid civil & moral education class to lessen the lack or withdrawn from the school altogether and taken to that which suits the backward, retarding and hindering definition of education that Mrs Adetutu has.

You can teach all of those values WITHOUT religion attached to it…
That’s why the irony of Nigeria’s public religiosity and it’s poor public morality isn’t surprising - one has NOTHING to do with the other.

Meanwhile, the Oyinbo folks you IMPORTED this FOREIGN religion from do NOT teach it in their public schools…
And the number of supposedly educated Nigerians fleeing this nation for theirs succinctly indicate whose methods work better!

What does “worshiping sex” have to do with Sex Education?
With all due respect, that is just ignorance about Sex Education.

Similarly, what does Religious Studies have to do with “worshiping God”?
Ironic that Nigerians have so much public religiosity and so little public morality.

Teach the child about God who created sex but you said teaching about God is irrelevant because it was imported. Look, knowledge and deepening knowlegde of God illuminates and elevates the soul and the soul reaches out to its SOURCE. Now, that's not outward religiosity.

Who taught your parents about sex education but their knowledge of God kept them in check.

Religious Studies is more about storytelling than about God…
If you want to properly learn about God, join a church and go learn there.

Our parents also did not learn computer science, should we follow suit?
Meanwhile, we have priests/pastors molesting children all over the globe.

There’s a place for everything, and frankly studying religion for GRADES debases it…
The foreigners who you imported the FOREIGN religion from do not teach it in their public schools.

Nothing impacts on children's mind more than stories and illustrations. Stories about God in religious studies captivate children and moral lessons therefrom resonate and echoe in their subconscious as they grow. If everybody has to go to church to know God then what's the essence of evangelistic outreaches?

Computer science is an emerging body of knowledge but sex is as old as man. People from time immemorial have been procreating and enjoying sex without problems. So your attempt to compare an emerging knowledge with residual knowledge falls flat on its face.

There is nothing wrong with studying religion for GRADES because it helps to know how well knowledge is imparted.

Yes, we have priests/pastors molesting children all over the globe just as we have priests/pastors all over the globe not molesting children. Crimes or offenses are as old as man. Reason why every action has a price tag including imprisonment.

The irony of students CHEATING on Religious Studies exams (up to WAEC level) is apparently lost on many Nigerians.

Meanwhile, you miss the point of the Computer Science analogy. You seem to think that there’s no point in learning what are parents didn’t, and hence the analogy. Nonetheless, incorporating your response, should we quit learning about agriculture, food, water sanitation, medicine, etc., because food, water and the human body “are as old as man” (I would add “woman” but I am well aware how any perceived equal treatment of the genders trigger many religious folks)? Learning is LIFELONG, and as the body of knowledge grows so should we.

Btw, people have NOT been procreating “without problems”. There have always been issues arising from sex (including issues such as VVF Vesico-vaginal fistula, STDs, and unintended pregnancies, among others), and Sex Education is one of the tools that help better understand these issues and deal much better with it. Hopefully, you don’t think (eg) we should ignore infant mortality because it’s “as old as man”!

I agree that you can teach values without religion but any value taught without a spritual force behind it becomes mere guidance for the mind physically rather than that which MOULDS the inner mind.

By the way, Nigeria is not the headquarters of "poor public morality". Every country in the world including US experience poor public morality because humans by their freewill abhor control. The only difference is that justice system work more effectively in those countries and so people try as much as possible to stay in line.

Been thought a religious subject doesn't necessarily mean been indoctrinated!

Reason single motherhood or baby mama lifestyles ain't totally healthy because the child gets only one sided orientation and discipline.
Our society is getting worse off with the new single parent ideology.

I used the word Most because of the fact that the number of female critical thinkers are less than those that think critically so it's appropriately used. Generalization is when one uses the word " ALL".......so I didn't generalize.

The teaching of religion and the evaluation of how the instructions are absorbed cannot be discarded because of cheating. That's defeatist.

Every knowledge that forms integral part of humanity comes innately and that means that God has already put it there. However, there is nothing wrong with man's effort to make improvements. Don't forget that what brought this thread of intellectual argument is prioritizing religion above sex education and not that sex education is evil in itself. My argument is that teaching about God is paramount and sex education is secondary because the primary innate knowledge in every human that can effectively suffices already exists.

VVF, STDs and unwanted pregnancies are NOT essentially part of sex abnitio. Often, these things are self-inflicted. Treating barrennes or infertility comes under medicine and not sex education. Couples can have sex and have been having sex smoothly without them. Look, when a man and a woman lie nakedly together, naturally instincts are capable of driving to satisfying sex.

Education system…

Nigerians fail to see the connection between input and output. A liberal and tolerant society (not wedded to base dogma) enables a million flowers to blossom, and leads inevitably to the disruptions (intellectual and otherwise) that often underlie and/or create progress. It took someone questioning religious dogma at the expense of his own life and liberty for humanity to reach the watershed discovery that the world is not flat which was an early precursor of scientific (and ultimately industrial) revolution.

That the Oyinbo Christians from whom you imported this FOREIGN religion freely allow Muslims to wear hijabs to their own schools, and do NOT require the teaching of Religious Knowledge in their own public schools has ultimately created the sort of enlightened and cosmopolitan society that so many Nigerian Christians are sometimes literally dying to rush off to - and of course that (and the influx of educated and enlighten immigrants) has also contributed significantly to a BETTER QUALITY of education.
