They make Affirmations. They're simply asked to swear to tell the truth in the law court. They seem to comply 'cause there's punishment for whoever lies in/to the court. People still lie even after swearing by the bible or any other religious form. So, the court will still have to use other means to confirm statements made by anyone taking the stand, with or without swearing by the bible. Some courts don't even care if you swear by the bible; they consider it illogical. Imagine how life would be if Judges believed everyone that swear or swore by the bible.

Let's say you're a judge, and I was brought to you for killing several people. And now I'm facing life in prison or the death penalty. Then two people came to you: One with a bible that I'll swear with and the other with a CCTV footage of me committing the crime! You'll DEFINITELY go for the footage because that's what is LOGICAL. Everyone has a duty to say the Truth in and out of Court but because lazy and unintelligent people do not want to work hard to catch Liars, they were hoping that the "Fears", whether God or Juju, would make people stay in line and speak the Truth.
