What CRS taught me that year was reconciliation, forgiveness, fortitude, charity and tolerance. I think these virtues exist in other religions as well... in Islam, in the Odu Ifá. Nigerians fail to see the connection between input and output. A liberal and tolerant society (not wedded to base dogma) enables a million flowers to blossom, and leads inevitably to the disruptions (intellectual and otherwise) that often underlie and/or create progress. It took someone questioning religious dogma at the expense of his own life and liberty for humanity to reach the watershed discovery that the world is not flat which was an early precursor of scientific (and ultimately industrial) revolution.
