Proposed transcript.
Kindly help me review it.

I was previously denied a visa in July, 2019 @ Abuja. While my interview didn't last for up to 2minutes the only questions asked was "why this school" and "what other schools did you apply to?". What I noticed afterwards was that she felt I should have gone with one of the schools other than one I was going to. Note, she didn't spill this out directly but it was crystal clear that was what she implied. Well,I didn't reapply until now.

My interview is in few weeks from now and below is my proposed transcript.

All protocol observed...

VO:Where are you headed to?
ME: Grand valley State University for my Master's in Criminal Justice with a Concentration in Law Enforcement Administration.

VO: You were denied in 2019 so,what has changed since then?

ME: I completed my PGD diploma in Criminology and Security Studies at the National Open University of Nigeria in 2020. I left my former job at Soji Solomon & Associates and now work as a Field operating officer, a subset of the Criminal Investigative Department of the NPF.

VO: Why this School?

ME: This field is sub divided into three which are Law enforcement administration, Courts, Rehabilitation and correction. Since I'm more interested in identifying crime and apprehending criminals, Law Enforcement suit me best. After checking the brochure of this school,I realise it is a perfect match with my current job while it also aligns with my career goals since it allows me concentrate in Law Enforcement Administration.

In addition to this,I was admitted to two schools. In other to be sure,I proceeded to check the course curriculum for both schools. Unlike NMSU, the course curriculum at GVSU cut across all the three sub divisions of the field even though over 65 percent of my courses would concentrate on LEA. This was not the case at NMSU.

More so,I would be opportune to work with the only female professor of crime mapping in this field. Her expertise in this area of CJ is highly needed in the management of crime and security in my country. Having reached out to her and considering I have a background in Criminology and SS,she is glad to have me work with as she is currently working on a research that attempt to address insecurity in third world countries, one of which is Nigeria.

VO: What will this program do for you?

ME: In Feb. 2020, we received what was supposed to be a classified Intel from Narcotic department of the NDLEA about the whereabouts of a wanted drug baron. Unknown to us that someone within our department had been compromised,we walked into an ambush. I practically saw my life flashed before my eyes...my daughters without a father and a lot flashed within my mind. I came to the conclusion that a dead man can't fight crime hence,I feel I would be more useful with the administrative section of my department which is the brainbox of the whole department. Unfortunately, the minimum requirement to switch is a Master's degree.

We have over 240million Nigerians with none of us knowing what's coming next. Reports shows that crime that takes days, weeks and months to plan are the ones with the most casualties hence this kind of crimes(Kidnapping, bank robbery, etc) can effectively me managed with the help of crime mapping. Working with Prof. Tina Godfrey, the only female academician to partner with the FBI in the hunt for Osama Bin Laden having adopted crime mapping would be helpful in this regards.

Upon successfully completing this program,I will be opportune to take the administrative exam plus I would automatically skip four stages. Should I pass the exam, the offer it comes with includes but not limited to increment in Salary.

VO: What's your study plan?

ME: I am expected to complete 36 credits throughout the duration of my program which means 9 credit per semester. I would be taking courses like Criminal Justice Research, Crime analysis and Data Collection, Society and Policing, The mind of the artist etc. I am expected to maintain a 3.25GPA to remain in the Program and a 3.52 GPA to be considered for a GA in Winter.

VO:What's your educational and work background?

ME: I completed my Bachelor's degree in Philosophy in 2015 and proceeded for the compulsory NYSC program in mid 2016 which was completed in Mid 2017. I worked briefly with Educare Foundation after which I left to work with Soji Solomon and Associates. I left there in 2019 for my Post Graduate Diploma in Criminology & SS which was completed in late 2020. Towards the tail end of 2020,I applied and got employed as a Field Operating Officer, a subset of Criminal Investigative Department of the NPF.

Please just to clarify, in the section that ask have you been denied I said yes. But it was my husband that was the primary applicant me under him going with him for vacation, he was denied n given d blue paper. So meaning I was also denied even if I was not the primary applicant. Now am going on summer vacation alone without my children n husband, Now what do I say in the column briefly explain why you were denied?
Malone122:

Hello and a good day to everyone here seeking to study one program or another. Please i need to know the cheapest Universities that i can apply to for a masters degree. I have a bsc in government and public administration (2.2) and would love to know if it is possible to secure a masters degree admission in Usa with my Grade.
Also which Programs can i vie for with my degree apart from Public administration ?
Re: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 16 by abbeYhart(m): 1:50pm On Jun 15, 2021
Congrats to all those who got their approvals. For those who have their interview coming up, I wish you success and those whose visa was delayed, consider giving it one more shot and get your visa. I remember as far back as 2016 when I also went for my interview and got my US F1 student visa approved. I shared my transcript here with another account though (CBNL2014). A lot of more achievement has happened in 4yrs plus including graduating from my program with good grades, getting a job, getting my permanent residency and so on.

Not to bore you guys much. I discovered something on I20 which I feel you might need to pay attention. I have someone who went for his interview and was denied due to the VO misunderstanding the student funding part of the I-20. He had his deficit under student funding as personal funds despite his uncle is going tonsponsor him. He also submitted his uncle's bank statement to the university before the I20 was issued. It is not his fault but the university's fault. The interview did not last past 20 seconds because the VO asked "I can see you are sponsoring yourself, how do you intend to fund your studies?" He replied No, his uncle will be sponsoring the cost of his studies and went further to state what he does.

I don't know if this has been addressed here before but let me clarify what I discovered. Universities in US have two different ways they prepare the student funding part if the I-20. For some, you have "personal funds, funds from this school, funds from another source and on-campus employment" while other universities have personal funds, funds from this school, family funds and on-campus employment". Regardless of which bank statement you submit to the school..either personal bank statement or sponsor's bank statement or both, most universities that adopt the first method put the funds as personal funds which is causing problem during interview that leads to denial. A lot of people may have been denied due to this little error without knowing.

Going forward, I don't know if it is possible to ensure the university you intend going adopt this second method where the deficit is stated under family funds to avoid any contradiction during interview most especially as VO don't usually tell where the problem is before denial. This applies to people with no funding from the school whatsoever. It is just my little observation which I feel might help someone.

Cheers!

Hello I need help on here
My visa got rejected June 3rd

Here is my transcript
Interview time :8am but got interviewed by like 10:30
Lagos Embassy
Female interviewer

Consular:Good morning, how are you today
Me:Good morning, I’m fine and you(I don’t remember if she responded)
Consular: can I have your passport and form I 20
Me: passed it to her

Then she tried to scan the barcode behind my passport and it wasn’t accepting(was making a sound), so she requested for my ds160 and tried to scan the barcode like twice then she continued with my interview

Consular: I see you’ve been to the United States before on a j1 visa
Me: yes I have
Consular: where did you go
Me: Virginia Beach, Virginia
Consular:where did you work
Me: told her
Consular:did you come back for your masters or plans changed
Me:plans changed(I remember my j1 interview I stated I would be coming back to do my masters)
Consular:so what have you been doing since you graduated
Me: did my NYSC 2018 to 2019 and so I started planning for my masters (doing research) and the pandemic set in so I waited to apply this year January
Consular: why will you be studying MIS and why your university
Me:I chose to study MIS because of the technology sector isn’t so great here in Nigeria and so doing this I’ll be able to come back to contribute my own quota to the Nigerian economy
Then she cuts in before I could answer why the university
Consular:who is your sponsor
Me: my father he is a real estate consultant and the owner and ceo of ... property limited nigeria
Consular:asked again I think she was trying to type it

And she tried scanning the barcode on my passport again it was making sound
Then she requested for my ds160 and took the first page out stating she is having technical issues
And she hands over the blue denial slip to me

I am planning on reapplying soon as my school resumes August 10th please advise on how to scale my next interview please
PS: my interview wasn’t so great because I was really nervous as a result of the tech issues she was having so it threw me off balance , so I couldn’t answer questions so well

I will indeed appreciate if you can put me through

I get your point but generally the paper you was given was a 214b if I am very correct….. they definitely know why they denied you. If you want you can state the reason why you felt you was denied it’s honestly no harm at the end of the day your delivery on the day of your interview would still be what the VO would use to access you.

It’s just like a person being denied from an F1 visa and get to that point saying explain in the ds160 “ I can as well explain saying
-I was not giving enough time to express myself
-I was not convincing to the VO as a bonafide student who would return after my program..etc
And as well I can choose to generalize it
Saying I was denied based on 214b..doesn’t matter if you have strong Home ties, properties it is still under that 214b

Can we link up?
I sent you an email.
Happiness1186:
Visa Approved!
Lagos
9th June 2021
COA $39,274
Funding: Nil

Thank you to everyone that constantly engage with this thread. I’ve learnt so much by reading people’s transcripts and from all the information shared. This is my own little contribution.

Interview scheduled for 8:45am, done probably at 9:50am

VO: please pass your passport and I20
Me: Good morning. Then I go ahead to pass the requested documents.

VO: Good morning. What school are you going to?

Me: I’ll be going to TAMU for my Masters in public Health with my major in Epidemiology.

VO: What will this course do for you?

Me: I’ve worked as a doctor for 5 years and I’ve seen that as a clinician you can only help people on a one-on-one basis. With my public health degree, I’ll be able to affect the populace on a larger scale. I also found out from my experience working during the pandemic that Nigeria has poor data computing and analyzing skills and my degree in epidemiology will equip me with epidemiological skills to...

VO: Okay that’s fine. How long is your program? Is it one year, two years?

Me: The program is for two years with a one year optional practical training. (My i20 has a 3yr validity period on it)

VO: Who will be funding this trip?

Me: My husband

VO: What does he do?

Me: He works in Bleep as Bleep

VO: Have you been to the US before?

Me: Yes. In 2017 and 2018

VO: So both your kids are US citizens?

Me: Yes. But there’s three of them actually.

VO: And will you be traveling with your family? Husband and the kids?

Me: My husband will not be going with me because of his work obviously but my children will join me at some point. They’re too young to be separated from me for the entire length of my study. I plan to go alone now then they’ll join me later.

VO: That’s okay. I will be approving your visa. Will hold onto your passport. Take your i20. You’ll need it at the port of entry and this slip will show how to retrieve your passport. He hands me the white slip as my heart bursts in gratitude to God.

Fam, Not a single document was checked and I went there armed with all my delivery details, zero balance, bank statements, certificates, etc

I want to appreciate Chibertha. I remember reaching out to her when I saw she had a similar situation as me and she gave me a very vital tip that helped me.

Finally, I’ll like to say that I’m not sure that enough emphasis is placed on HOW you fill your form. I think that a huge percentage of the decision to approve or refuse the visa has already been made by what your form and profile says. Don’t outsource it to anyone. Do it yourself. No one knows you better than you and when you’re not sure, ask questions and get it right on the form.

After all is said and done, the Grace of God is the most important factor. That day, as we stood on the queue hearing everyone get their interview done, the black VO (there were three of them that day and the other two were Caucasian) did not give anyone no matter what they said. I remember my heart beating so fast. So many refusals that day. I’m just thankful to God!!!

N.B Apologies for the lengthy post.
