Also if I decide to use a private driver do I have to register the vehicle first to avoid unnecessary police wahala? Any advise would be nice thanks

You don't need to register before you drive it down. I hope its customs duty was appropriately paid.

If you don't want to drive it and you can afford the cost of trucking down it down to Abuja, go for the option instead.
