Interesting... And I'm glad you brought this up.

So in my situation, PHCN is N60 per KW and power is almost 24/7. Even if they take it, it's typically not for more than 2hrs a day. I have to be practising load shedding in my house, just so I can afford it by turning off power from 11/12am till 7pm in the evening. Even with being economical, I'm still using about 800 to 900KW a month which if you do the maths, it's costing over N50k per month

I'm in the middle of building a 5KW system with lithium batteries. and I've calculated the payback period to be 5 to 6years. So for those paying N30 per KW, your payback will be over double. BUt then, the major advantage is I will not have to be so power conscious anymore. Regulating consumption will be a lot easier since I've also made my house completely smart. So I can make "smart rules" to keep consumption optimal always so I would never have to rely on the grid. (Or at most Maybe 5k per month or something)

That's the plan anyway

This first device (picture attached), is very fantastic and gets the basic job done, however, it has a limitation which is quite worrisome. When you program it to power on at a certain time and you leave home, weather can suddenly become cloudy or even rain for hours and your batteries will be depleted seriously (which you may not want) because of unavailability of sunlight.
This made me to think of a better alternative that gives one more control, preferably can be done remotely anywhere (I'm a fan of home automation). After an extensive search, I came across the second device (picture attached). This device gives my kind of desired control, all you need do is to sync it with a dedicated home router. It's called SMART PLUG and works with other home automation apps such as Alexa and Google Assistant. This is more preferable, you can get everything done on your phone, it has a programmable timer also, instant ON/OFF anywhere you are in the world. Someone may find this useful.

@ OCTAVO,
The problem with the second option is that you waste productive time monitoring your system like a hawk instead of drinking beer.

That same switch/plug if flashed with Tasmota firmware will open up a lot more possibilities. If you don't believe me, ask Ojeysky.

It's actually getting the job done nicely with no issues. All I need it to do is switch ON/OFF anywhere I am.
However, I may still consider flashing Tasmota firmware just to get other functionalities.

You may not even need to flash tasmota, the stock sonoff firmware already has enough features and can be integrated with node-red as well for full automation. The smartplug to may have integration options with node-red

Okay it does accept tasmota? That's cool. I only use tasmota on my sonoff switches

Please does anyone have an idea how many solar panels a roof of 13m x 9.2m can take?

Not quite sure if it does. From the little checks I did, I found out sonoff switches works with Tasmota.

Will you be able to control your device from anywhere without cloud syncing?
I think that may not be possible if you are not connected to a cloud hub.

A typical 330w Canadian mono solar panel is about 2sqm.
Your roof of 119.6sqm will take 59pcs.

Hope the shape of the roof is plane, no too many corners/funny stuff? What solar panel wattage are you looking at, 255(~30pcs)-450w?

Note that the all whole dimension is not usable and your roof is not a perfect rectangle.

I connect to my pi remotely and can control my switches manually via node-red

Flat roof.
380- 410w should be OK.

That second device, I have looked out for it for quite some time.

I think it works with Growatt readily, as the option of smart home is available in the shineapp

Where did you get it and for how much?

AliExpress, I think a little above 5k.

https://a.aliexpress.com/_ms5kfPP

I integrated Google Assistant, and it works quite well even with voice command.
Also, you can set your desired kind of weather or temperature automation. It will Geo-locate the address of device and use available weather forecast to switch ON/OFF, depending on how you want it.

The gens output is not clean, either voltage is below 200volts or frequency is less than 45hz.
If the gen has not been kazeemed, a change of avr may correct this issue....

Locate a gen repairer that knows his onions, and not a kazeem, who would know what frequency is
the generator output fluntuates btw 222 and 230v, it powers the freezer but the compressor doesn't pick up

Hi, have you corrected this by now? Are you still having same issues
is the gen working well with the freezer now?
Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by finecheek12: 10:44am On Jun 17, 2021
ojeysky:

Then try this; disable AC charging on inverter, run the gen through the inverter and then power the freezer from the inverter. Let's see if that works out fine
The freezer works well with the inverter but not with the generator

Lol. +1 for tasmota on sonoff devices with nodered, especially the ones with the power monitoring which will allow automations based on your consumption / solar production for example. Not really one for voice commands via alexa / google assistant / siri etc...but i believe you can also add this via nodered or Home Assistant.
Interface via a telegram bot / the home assistant app through a private cloud and everything is vely vely hallright. tongue

-Can one get sonoff devices already flashed with Tasmota firmware?
-Is there any fairly stable and usable android app for Node-red? Or one will always have to rely on their website for automation?

No!
Have you called an engineer to check the output voltage and frequency of the generator?
I tested the freezer with someone's stable generator and it worked.
Currently working on mine

Also interested in 32pcs of the 280Ah LFP cells if price is USD99/pc
I got a (high?) quote of USD550 for 1CBM sea-shipping from China to Lagos port and excluding clearing.
1 CBM is apparently about 80pcs?

So the tally so far seems to be:
1. 48pcs Toluxa1
2. 64 pcs Barezzi
3 32 pcs Remizvxcq
