Update and Landing gist. Sorry this will be long but I wanted to update the house on some issues that were coming up when I was active on the thread (Part 17).

Background. I applied for the study visa in 2020 during COVID. Deferred my admission till May 2021. I am female, married with children. I didn’t apply with my husband or children, but they all had existing U.S and Canadian Visas. The plan was to travel with the family, then apply for my husband’s work permit within Canada.

With Covid restrictions, I couldn’t travel with my family when school started so I started online. Someone advised me to send an email requesting exemption for my family members to travel with me, which I did. I first applied for the children attaching their birth certificates, my student visa and their birth certificates. After receiving theirs, I applied for my husband. Attached our wedding certificate, his proof of funds and his visit visa. He was also granted leave to travel.

We landed at Vancouver, and while filling the passport update form, stated that my family was going to be with me for the duration of my studies. There’s a separate section where students and new immigrants are processed. We were directed to that section. The lady processing me asked what documentation we will need and I said I needed a Spouse Open Work Permit for my husband and landing record for my children. She asked if I had applied for it before leaving my country and I said no, but I would like to have it. After conferring with one of her colleagues, she asked if I travelled through the U.S and I said no. Apparently if you transit through the U.S, it’s easier to get your Work permit at the border. Anyway after some hesitation she gave us the required permits.

IMPORTANT POINTS:
1. For those that are able to, it’s easier to get documentation from within Canada. If for instance your children are American citizens or your husband already has a Canadian visiting visa, it’s better to wait until you are all within Canada to ask for documents. A Spouse open work permit can take more than 6 months to process from Nigeria

2. Always ask for what you want. Initially I was afraid to ask for the work and permit at the boarder, because it is clearly stated on the website that if you know your family is going to stay with you during your studies, then you must apply at the same time. I was worried that they will question me on why I didn’t apply for my spouses work permit when I applied for my student visa. But I sha summoned up
Courage and asked. The worst that can happen is they will say no.

Thank you to all who have been giving selflessly on this thread. Every step of this journey, from my first US visa and Canadian visa, to the entire process of getting the study visa would not have been possible without the advice I got from this thread and other threads on the travel section. May all who are on this journey also get successful results. It is, and will continue to end in praise.

Wow I always love to hear landing gist.May canada favour you and your family. It will go round

Congratulations. Please what do you mean by statement in bold? Does it mean if i fly from Nigeria through say Amsterdam, then USA before landing in Canada even if i dont have an existing USA visa?

You can’t transit through US without a US visa. But if you happen to have a US visa, you can book your flight through the US. E.g through Emirates you can go to Toronto via New York.

Hello Guys,

I got an email this morning. Thinking it was BVL (liver failed me as I was expecting two emails in quick succession as people normally get here). behold it was a medical request. Note that I had submitted upfront medical (expires in August) while applying in April (also got NSE request in late April). Not sure what to do atm. Should I resend the medical form via web form and emails or request for a new medical at Qlife?

Your advise pls.

Cc: @Lekkiboboe, Justmellow, Frankrobbin and all comrades pls

Hello Owee,

You can use the still valid e-medicals slip to respond to the officer's MER and thereafter, book an appointment for re-medicals to allow you to have a valid medical record when facilitating entry to Canada.

Small congratulations for now. The big one is well preserved in my best wishes to you.

Best of Luck

2nd Applicantion 12th April
LOA: MBA UCW
An hour after gcms enter.
Background check started immediately as well.
I didn't notice the exact day my eligibility started but I'm sure it was between a week after I put in my application.
4 ghost update and later got another update when they updated my Medical.
NB: I sent webform and email of my medical last week when someone mentioned he uploaded his upfront medical yet they requested again.
11th of June- Medical passed
On Saturday someone mentioned he was refused cause of IMM1294E, i went back to check if I didn't make mistake. Gbam I made a simple mistake of year of graduation. I gave up right at that moment. Justmellow/ gcmswriters advised I send another through webform. They haven't acknowledged till now.
16th of June- Passport Request.

S/0 to Gcmswriters. They wrote my LOE and CV though with a cost. The LOE and CV helped me with backed with God's grace helped my profile massively. I recommend them.

Hello Darmison,

You overcame and conquered through your resilience. Thank you for the recognition, it means so much.

Good morning Everyone.
I am new here and am about to apply for my Canadian Student Visa Application, Please i need some advice.
Am using myself as Sponsor, I have the founds in my bank account since last year, tho the money were not sent into the account at once, this are payment from the sales of my business , i will like to know if there is any issue of me keeping the money in the account and have not make any withdrawal, this year i had credited the account 2times, i will like to also know must i keep running the account or just leave the funds there.
Please advise  any one in the house
@Frankrobbn1 @Justmellow @Adiekwe1@Lekiboboe @NairaLuck @justwise @Akannitommy and other gurus, please advice

Hello Larryrichie,

IRCC and/or the VO have no authority on how applicants should save or utilize their saved resources.

What is important is been able to demonstrate reliable and proof of business income and company registration. There must be a well-established origin of the hoarded cash.

Kindly do not run the account unnecessarily to avoid money lodgement. It is not a red flag not to have constant outflows, but it is most important to have regular inflows especially since you are self-employed as a businessperson.

From your post, it seems some of the cash came in as lumps, ensure it is properly addressed to avoid "Personal Assets and Financial Status" refusal ground.

Best of Luck

Hello Fam,
I want to know if the embassy do give visa to people who applied to Graduate Certificate programs of 1yr with the reason of changing career path. I have a BSc but wanna change career path.

Hello Websta,

It is not impossible, but a career switch reduces the visa chances especially when there is insufficient justification, blur demonstration of progression, or unclear prospect or projection.

It will be wise to go for a study that well-align with your previous study (if a recent graduate) or experience.

Hello everyone, please I want to study Health informatics and I thinking of applying to confederation college in Thunder Bay or George brown in Toronto. Please are they good enough? Any other suggestions would be welcomed.

And also please if I have two year work experience and I go for a year program, would it be advisable, for pr in the future?

Hello Kudiratu28,

Confederation College isn't entirely a poor study hub despite its poor ranking. George Brown College is also a good one too and ranks higher than Confederation.

If you fortify yourself with adequate research, you may be able to attain PR with a 1-year program. To do it conveniently, a 2-year program is ideal or you can decide to pursue a second program of 6 months or 1-year at length to get a 3-years work permit under PGWPP.

If you see a program that suits your profile accordingly and demonstrates progression and that has a WIL component whether it's a 1-year or 2-years study, grab it.

Best of Luck

Good morning,

Please I want to ask if my wife can be my sponsor.

She is a civil servant in the federal government and she does Business in her personal name. Her personal business account is running very well and also she has a different salary account. We intend to say she took money from her co-operative to explain a lump sum in her account. We also have kids but I am the only one going for study. I'm also working (Bank) but my salary is not that high.

Please any tangible advice?? This will really help.

Hello Wole24,

As long as the funds belong to your spouse and the funds in the cooperative savings record bears your spouse's information as the name on her travel document, supply the necessary evidence or authorized liquidation documents or redemption certificate as proof of trace for the inflow into your spouse's BA.

It is also reasonable to present your POF if your spouse will act as a sponsor or as the case may be.

You have enough time to build your proof of funds and application do not rush, you could use this period till Oct to build your funds then apply in oct that will be 6 months to your resumption.

Please our Honourable gurus.I have a question especially 4 those that applied and use their present employment as part of Economic ties.Do they call ur company ?. I intend to get a letter from my HR for study leave but its between d both of us cos my company does not grant study full leave.except if u are doing part time here in Nigeria .moreover my MD will be so angry and disappointed if he finds out am leaving the country cos am so important to the company by God's grace.so my question is .does IRCC verify employment aside ur salary statement of account which obviously shows u get salaries from the company,ur employment and promotion letters, ur company Email nd I.D card etc.will they still want to call the company?.plz for those who have submitted their company ID cards ,employment letters etc.did they call ur company?

my HR wants me to verify this before giving me that letter cos only my General manager can instruct him to give such letter and if we tell the GM,he will tell the MD that am planning to leave.i dont even wanna think of that impact on out relationship nd the favour I get from him.please I need answers oo.thanks .

moreover it's my GM phone no that is on the letter headed paper used for my employment and promotion letter.i hope they wont call the man
