No. It doesn’t matter in as much you can afford or pay for your deficit. Go ahead and get your visa approval.

A Sponsor is a sponsor

On this note, I’d like to ask:

My uncle is funding my deficit, but my I-20 is says ‘personal funds’.
Please, I hope this won’t be an issue?

I have also contacted my immigration officer at school and she’s insisting that it’s how they do it. I am bothered because I’ve seen an I-20 saying ‘Family Funding’

Hello house. Please help solve my case, I’ve been to the US embassy twice on b1/b2 visa but was denied in 2017, despite claiming I was married just to show ties although truly I was never married. Then later I got married in 2019 to my husband who’s a permanent resident of Canada, we filed for spousal visa, but we’ve been on it ever since, I guess the application is stuck, so we decided to try US student visa and I recently gained admission into university of Arkansas at Little Rock, and we are about to process my i20, I’m confused who to use as sponsor? Either my husband or my dad, my husband is a permanent resident of Canada and he has entered US by road few times, while my dad and mom are divorced, though my mom remarried and her husband died, I remember my mom filled widow on her DS-160 then, my mom has been to the US few times and has never overstayed, and she doesn’t bear my father’s name on her passport. I also don’t bear my father’s name on my passport too, I’m using my husband’s name, I’m worried if I can use my father as my sponsor, I’m worried the consular might think my father is my mom’s husband that died, and I feel I can’t use my husband cause he’s not based in Nigeria, please help clear my confusion

Pls guys, I am yet to submit my ds160 form due to some questions bothering me, I don't want to make mistakes.
My interview is scheduled for August 4, even though I'm planning to apply for emergency as my resumption date is 23rd of August. My long term goal is to be a lecturer but i currently teach in a secondary school, is it advisable to answer the question "where do you work presently" by saying "I teach Mathematics and Further Mathematics at"..since I was admitted for Msc Mathematics? I notice people who tell the Vo they teach often get denials and lastly, my deficit is huge($51k) to be sponsored by Uncle but family funds was what was stated on i20, is there a way to better present this to the VO?
Thanks

I don't think it's a problem and shouldn't affect the outcome of the interview. While filling DS 160, there is a column where you are asked for former names ( could be maiden name or any former name) you can state your former name. During the Visa interview, go with the change of name document and if the VO ask you can explain why you effected a change of name.
shawnmich:
Good day all the guru in the house.
I want to confirm some information and how visible it is , whether my past record will affect me or not?
I went to us embassy in the year 2011,2012 and 2013 and was denied for my bachelor degree, but now I want to go again but this time for my master degree. I have change my first and middle name because it's my father's name so I have change it to my other names but is different from the other name I have in the previous record with us embassy before. For example Surname: Aderibigbe first name: Samson middle name: ifamuyiwa (which I used to apply previously in the year 2011,2012 and 2013) but now change my name to Surname: Aderibigbe First name: Michael Middle name: Gbenga. Won't this new name affect me during the interview because they may be wondering why I change the name, though I have documents to back it up but being the fact that us are strict with data monitoring, won't it reduce my chance of getting visa?

Please kindly assist with advice so that I can know the way forward either to proceed or go to other country .
Thanks in advance

Under-graduate Degree: Adult Education/Communication and Language Arts
Intended Degree : Business Analytics.

Appointment Time : 21st June, 2021; 7:00 am (4 VOs were around, though they didn't come same time).
I got there around 5:30am cause I wanted to be part of the first set. Avoid those nonsense people at the gate, they just wanna scam you. I greeted all security guards from the gate to the interview room, and they were quite impressed someone rated them enough to greet them lol. One was even praying for me. Sha, the warm reception helped me stay calm. Be ready to stand for long sha. The wait is the hardest part tbh.

I was the 26th person to be interviewed, (yeah I'm extra lol), but tbh, too many people chop blue paper. and it had to do with funding.

almost five people were rejected before it got to my turn but I kept calm. The black American woman who rejected everyone that went to her beckoned on me. but as I was going to her side, the window before her got vacant so I sharply hopped in.

Male VO, what I wanted from the start.

Me: Hi, Good morning. (with the sweetest voice ever and a big fat smile)
VO: Good morning.
Me: (sharply) How are you?
VO: (surprised, but clearly amused) I'm doing great! Pass me your I-20 and passport.

I did.

VO: Where are you going to?
Me: I'm going to the University of Louisville, Kentucky for my Master's program in Business Analytics.

VO: Why Business Analytics?
Me: I had to work with a lot of data at my first job, so I started learning data analytics tools. I eventually ventured into data analytics when I discovered it was a lucrative and booming field with a lot of opportunities, which carried a financially rewarding prospect in. my transition was made easy by the many opportunities and scholarships available for upcoming black women in tech that I got a hold of, like my two nanodegrees from Udacity in Business and Data Analytics. I would come back to Nigeria to break into any of the big four and take up a position as a Senior Business Analyst preferably at Deloitte or PwC, in order to drive insightful business solutions with data and this degree puts me in a good stead to landing it.

(Yes he allowed me talk at full length me sef shock)

VO: Who will be sponsoring your education?
Me: I got a partial scholarship from my school, and I took a loan from Prodigy finance which would cover the remaining deficit. My mother is going to sponsor my living expenses. She's into real estate, property valuation, and she works on many building contracts; for instance, she's presently collaborating with the Ekiti state government in building about 15 blocks of apartments for police officers in Ekiti state

VO: Okay. Can I see any documents stating the terms of the loan?
Me: Of course. (I looked for my letter everywhere, I dinnor find it, omoo. The VO was smiling and he told me to calm down and not rush. I sha found it and gave him.

VO: Did you have any consigner for this loan?
Me: No, I didn't. it's a no-consigner, no-collateral loan. I was given cause my degree has a high Return on Investment, so the lenders were certain I was capable of paying it fast. Also, I have good savings and a great credit score.

VO: I will be issuing your visa. He gave me a White paper.
Me: Thank you.

I didn't hear anything after he said that. I always told myself that I will try to listen after my approval but omooo. I didn't hear singbai.

The euphoria made me ask VO for my passport back. lmaooo. He said I will be called to collect it.

Help me thank God óò! He didn't ask my most dreaded question of "what was my undergraduate degree in". Even though I got funded offers in other schools, I opted out for this one cause of the one-year internship it offers and I'm glad I made that decision!

Thanks to everyone who helped me on this journey from day one.

$59,000 tuition per year, excluding living expenses, to be paid by your uncle? Yeah sorry bro…

Also I think having your uncle change his surname to match yours and calling him your dad is immigration fraud.

I applied and got admitted in a university in the US and my interview date was scheduled for today but unfortunately I was denied. The school I applied is $12k tuition and $8k estimated living expenses with other fees a total of $23,512

Me: good morning

VO: good morning

I see that you applied for this university, how did you get to know about it?

Me: Through my uncle who owns an educational consulting firm

VO: have you traveled outside Nigeria before?

Me: No ma’am

VO: who’s sponsoring your trip?

Me: My uncle

VO: when did you finish secondary school?

Me: 2006

VO: what have you been doing since then?

Me: I’ve had a National Diploma and a Higher National Diploma from xyz school in Nigeria

VO: hands back my passport and a green paper to me!

At this point I felt devastated and heart broken.

Please gurus in the house do you think I said anything wrong?

Was it that the tuition fee is way too much or too small?
So sorry about your denial my dear brother. Your do not sound like a credible student in all your responses here as. Do you have a proposed transcript at all ahead of your interview? Do you have series of mock interviews as well too coupled with making a lot of changes/corrections in your PT among your friends?

You have a weak responses at where you are been asked how did you got to know this school and also what have you been doing since you graduated. The VO didn’t ask you about your academic credentials/background at where you made mention of you having ND & HND rather telling him/her what you’ve been doing since you have this degrees after your graduation like now he/expect to talk like this; I have been working as a graduate Teaching Assistant at the my alma mata at the department of Physics and my job description are (1) I involved in proctoring (2) I grade , mark etc and so on like that.

However, there is still room for an improvement in your responses to this two vital questions he/she asked you. Also, how you filled your DS-160 matter as well too because I don’t know what you wrote inside it like your job description/responsibilities as that will showcase to the VO that you have the innate knowledge of been a credible person that intend to come to study.

Finally, God is alive my brother and don’t be weak with this rejection as I understand how you will feel with today’s decision but that’s not the final decision at all. Just ensure you work very well on your responses in your next attempt and I pray and hope you will surely it by God’s grace.

Thank you and Take Care.

Hello house. Please help solve my case, I’ve been to the US embassy twice on b1/b2 visa but was denied in 2017, minutes despite claiming I was married just to show ties although truly I was never married.

You have several problems:

Who did you enter as your husband when you applied for a visiting visa?

You have an application for permanent residency in Canada. If the VO finds out, it will be a straight denial.

My best advice - forget about schooling in America and get your spousal visa done. It is strange that you say it’s stuck. What does that mean? Why don’t you get that settled rather than waste time, money and effort pursuing an education that you don’t really want? I have a feeling your current “marriage” is no better than your previous claim.

Vo asked me to pass my i20 and passport as I was approaching the counter.
Vo: which sch are you going.
Me: going to Louisiana State University
Vo: why did you choose this school?
Me: I preferred Louisiana State University Shreveport because the school offered me the course aline to my career goal
The cost of living in the school location is affordable also the school offered me scholarship of over 12000 US dollars and I attended the school pilot preview day via zoom where I was able to see the school facilities and its environment which I believe fit my study curriculum.
Vo: where are you working
Me: I'm working at Imeafia Nigeria
Typed for some secs
Vo: who is paying for this deficit
Me: my mum
What does she do
Me: she owns a restaurant at Luanda Angola which she has been running for over 18years now and she's also into real estate.
Then he gave me a yellow paper and said I should try again.

I just finished my Nysc Feb this year. Could it be because my lack of work experience or from my sponsor or the entire transcript.

Sorry about your denial today dear brother. It is not your lack experience at all that got you denied rather than what you uttered/told the VO and what you filled inside your DS-160 that made up the decision you got today. More than 70% of fresh graduate like you are even attending embassy this Fall 21 mostly than those that have graduated like 3 years etc.

I actually do not know how you filled your DS-160 as that will depict your profile clearly to the VO but I saw that you have a weak responses like when the VO asked you that why did you chose LSU. As for me I would have expect you to start with this statement that ‘’Coupled with the fact that you are awarded a $12,000 scholarship which you are grateful for OR In addition to the fact that you got a scholarship of $12,000 you will also be working with prof XYZ who’s keen on having me in his research team…….’’

VO know actually know most people consider a part is because of funding which is the first thing that is utmost for any student before you consider your yearnings and aspirations which is research you will be doing(if you’re passionate though) and you add other things that will made up having a great learning outcome after the degree like your engagement in that particular research etc.

However, don’t give up at all as this is not the best time to do so as all you need is to be encouraged and book another interview after you’ve introspectively work on your weak responses/points. I will also advice you to have work on why you chose LSU as that question is constant K. First of all talk about funding , secondly talk about the research you will be doing and thirdly talk about your engagement in that lab and finally talk about the uniqueness of your school like my school is an R-1/R-2 etc.

Finally , I pray you get it in your next attempt please don’t let the decision you got today weigh you down as it’s hard I understand but all you need to do is to go back to the drawing board and work on those things others and I told you here.

Thank you and God bless you
