Christistruth00: Stop being ignorant.. The Gas he's talking about is in igbo land.. They found out igbo land is virtually sitting under huge gas reserves while digging for oil in the Imo basin.. You can compare lagos and ondo reserves to that of Senegal not what was accidentally discovered in a region they didn't want to mention 3 Likes |

Where do you people get your stats from? The states with substantial gas reserves in Nogeria are Imo, Rivers and Bayelsa. Delta and akwaibom have gas reserves but not up to these three. The government in conjunction with some oil companies are building several gas plants in imo state to process and take away their gas. Ekugbeh: |

Nigeria is a gas rich country with some oil. Crude oil is not our most abundant resource. Gas is. 1 Like |

It would be funny and ironical if the largest percentage of Nigeria's feasible onshore gas reserves are in igboland. Omo*10000. It would cause a great reset. |

They have gas but not as much as other states. There's something called associated gas that comes with oil production. This is what is mostly present in Delta, Edo, Lagos and Ondo TundeBricklayer: |

Gas will remain viable for the foreseeable future. I would rather just leave it in the ground till we get decent leadership. Imagine Buhari and sylva mismanaging all these gas wealth through nepotism and incompetence. |

I think this minister is not conversant with some aspect of the industry he oversee. It's almost a norm to discover gas while exploring for crude oil because petroleum itself is made up of both gaseous, liquid, and occasionally solid constituents depending on the conditions in the reservoir. If the petroleum is very highly biodegraded, you wouldn't find gases and sometimes will be left with heavy oil or bitumen (this dominates crude oil reserves in Canada and Venezuela). We know that petroleum fraction with 1 to 4 carbon atoms are gases, and its common to find them in petroleum reserves. There are times most of the long chain petroleum fraction with longer carbon chain has been cracked due to high temperature in reservoirs to short chain gaseous fractions. That's why sometimes when gas is found, it may be referred to as wet gas (CH2 to CH4) or dry gas (mainly methane, CH4). Sometimes, the gas can even be derived by cracking of buried coal reserves or biodegradation of coal by bacteria to methane. At times, trapped gases would leak out of petroleum reservoirs because of weak rocky seals. There are places where methane seeps out of the ground or bottom of the ocean. Sometimes these indicates presence of crude oil below ground or it may just be methane formed in the subsurface by biodegradation of organic carbon to methane. 7 Likes |
