Pogba is able to play B2B effectively at France because he doesn’t have to bother himself covering for the defence. Kante covers the defence and Pogba controls the midfield and instigates attacks. Fred can do the Kante job well. There is not much difference between him and Kante and I think he is even better at passing the ball than Kante.

With Varane in defence and Fred or Mctominay providing cover for the defence, we will have a solid enough spine to allow Pogba roam up and down the pitch as much as he wants while Fred/Mctominay will provide the energy, tackling and also mopping up balls in midfield.

We have seen Pogba struggle even with 2 CMs shielding the defence.

We have also seen him put in decent performances as one of the CMs in a pivot.

His impressive performances with le Blues is down to tactical discipline - he seems to be under less pressure to perform (the manager also plays a key role here & the less said about OGS, the better).

Mans should grow up - the inconsistent performances in a Utd shirt is frustrating biko!

I think one major mistake most united fans make is thinking that the signing of a good defensive midfielder would automatically transform pur midfield.. Be it ndidi or casemeiro..the underlying issues in our midfield is that they don't know how to mark and press as a UNIT. I don't know if the coaching crew doesn't think in that direction..even if we get the best DM in the world now,with this current setup,he would look lost when trying to close down spaces and mark with no one going in unison with him.

Good analysis but we all know we can improve on Fred and McTominay. However you look at it, we still need a DM, we currently don't have a player for that position aside washed up Matić.
