Nisiw365:An option but not mandatory. Even doing a masters in Robotics as a Mechanical engineer, the schools ask for evidence of those core courses. Embedded systems , electronics, C++, Data structures and algorithms etc. 1 Like |

tensazangetsu20:You can still do masters in robotics if you haven't done c++ or electronics before . its not compulsory requirements |

tensazangetsu20:. mechatronics or MTE as a course has to do 'majorly' with robotics and artificial intelligence. . it's hard for me to explain the superiority of MTE to others. but it's always uneasy to persuade the uninitiated. . to fact check pls visit funaab website to check the course synopsis for mechatronics engr |

tensazangetsu20:No its not. Stop arguing on what you aren't sure of. For example, some people do robotics as option under mechanical engineering and they will have to learn all these together during the course duration 3 Likes 1 Share |

I respect you normally op but this write up is complete bullshit, you aren't an investigative journalist who has actually gone round interviewed at least thirty graduates who studied some of those courses who have tried to leave this country and you haven't really done any research. The only course I can't vouch for is law because Nigerian law is useless outside Nigeria. How can someone talk down on all engineering courses haew. Once again, I mean no disrespect. 2 Likes |

SegFault: The OP knows very little about engineering, his view is myopic. Just last week one of my mentor got a PhD schorlarship to do research in material science. She has a master degree in mechanical engineering. Op thinks engineering is all about programming and artificial intelligence. I have huge interest in sustainable energy, computational fluid dynamics(aerodynamics, turbulence and combustion), hvacs and thermal behavior of buildings. A first degree in mechanical engineering is one of the best decision of my life. All engineering courses has equal chances when it comes to traveling out. 6 Likes |

Lordbinsmar:That's my problem with most of these programmers, most especially nl programmers. And if you're reading this comment remember this, schools weren't established for job seekers, they were established for knowledge seekers. The only thing schools can promise you is a certificate after completing your school education but they aren't promising you a job. 12 Likes |

Lordbinsmar: You people don't understand the essence of this thread. For one, let me ask, when did you graduate? How many of your colleagues are now mechanical engineering practitioners? Of course, a fellow with a P. hD can get a scholarship, but what are the chances of a fellow with B. Sc? On what do you survive before you even think of going for M. Sc especially when you are from a poor home? Can this B. Sc fetch you a job with decent pay in your career path in Enugu, Kano or Akure? Even if you got lucky, how about your colleagues who are over 200 in numbers? How about the ones that graduated before or after you? While in other career path, people are getting more than enough to do with decent compensation. That is the essence of the thread. 18 Likes 1 Share |

SegFault: Op knows nothing about engineering, so far you are excellent at what ever you do. Any engineering course is good enough to make you a good living. Only if OP knows the amount of millions of dollars been pumped into research involving materials for energy storage, fuel cells and other energy related research, he won't be talking trash. OP knows nothing about mechanical engineering he is only saying rubbish. One of my mentor during my undergraduate program in oau should be done with his master degree in robotics in tum Germany. 3 Likes |

Karleb: I am not talking about the chances of mechanical engineering in Nigeria. Nigeria is a failed state, it doesn't matter the course you study in Nigeria. Yahoo Yahoo, scam, and other social vices are the order of the day. Most of my guys who studied mechanical engineering and have passion for the course are doing well. Most of the top guys got schorlarship to US and Europe. 3 Likes 1 Share |

atom080: God bless you Sir, I don't just understand why the nairaland programmers think maybe engineering and technology is all about programming. I understand that programming is important in advancement of technology and has a great future. But what about the guys working on fuel cells at Tesla? the guys working on new space craft materials at NASA? The guys working on developing energy efficient engines? The guys developing artificial heart? The guys working on hvacs and heat pumps? The aerodynamics analyst at airbus? The guys designing the concentrated solar power plants for future energy systems? This is just to mention few. So far you have a solid GPA in engineering in Nigeria, have a great passion for engineering and not money. Work hard on your dreams and leave Nigeria. You stand a great chance of doing very well in engineering. 4 Likes 1 Share |

atom080: Be realistic! If 200 people apply for the so called scholarship, how many will get it? Even at P. hD level? Mind you, 200 is like the average of graduates in each departments in most higher institutions in Nigeria. How many people will have the so called good grades? Roughly about 70 percent of graduates have 2.2 and below. Whereas there are courses you can study that'll guarantee a job with decent pay immediately after graduating, for some, even before graduation regardless of the your grade. 4 Likes |

Nigeria is a dream killer. If you are from a poor home and average, it's better you open your eyes and ears. Trust me, many who had higher hopes are now learning tailoring after graduation. Some have been teaching on a salary of 30k for more than 5 years now. 3 Likes |

Karleb:. pls do you know what graduate assistance(G.A) Is all abt. pls research it. getting a fully funded phd is easy via G.A. . if ur grade isnt gud enof to get u scholarship or G.A, then go to germany. the tuition is free! for the remaining process? there is a thread for it. . pls mind you, anything below 2.1 can venture into i.t skill or entrepreurship. 1 Like |

[quote author=atom080 post=103202260]though, i never agree totally with what the op said. though the o.p is one side in the mentality of japa. i wouldn't love to derail the thread, but i can't stop the truth from spreading. . now listen everyone . if you know that you are from humble background and don't know the steps to 'japa', but your option is to settle and be employed in nigeria. pls listen! as i say this from the bottom of my heart. . for science student go and study medical courses. by all getting, get medicine or dentistry(mbbs or bds), if you can't, go for nursing, pharm, medlab, physiotherapy etc. never go for any engr course except you have passion and connection. . don't let anybody cajole u to believing dat i.t rules the world. yes dat might me true yet even a farmer cn learn it(hyperbole). wat do i mean? i.t is for everyone, you cn dabble to it anytime. . av u ever seen a doctor, nurse, dentist, pharmacy come on dis thread to complain abt life after school in 9ja? . karleb ! |

ClixMaster: You dey mind them. They just want to argue for the sake of it. They even talk as if most people will get the good grades. In reality, most people will are average and below. How then do you want them to gain admission to study medical courses with this so much gate keeping in the medical line? My advice to average people from poor/average homes is to look around, find a skill/course that makes people money, especially in Nigeria, especially people that are just going into such career and make your choice. 1 Like |
