Hello Everyone,
I've been an active reader for a while now. My SP journey has been a ride. I applied on my own March 2020, and got refused 2 months after due to 'situation of employment' - even though I have a full-time job and submitted all required documents. I engaged an IRCC consultant and reapplied in July 2020, refused again- 1-year tuition paid, and had a reasonable amount of funds left in my POF. Then I went through JR in August, application reopened after the settlement offer.
(On the side---- after JR, I started learning French, finished my masters, passed TEF some weeks ago, and my CRS is now 536)
Back to the study permit, my GCMS notes arrived some days ago and I noticed that the application was approved in March (eligibility, criminality, and medical passed) and PPR was to be issued on March 11, then the status changed to "canceled" on the next page. (I changed my college in between because at the time JR verdict was out, I didn't have admission anymore in the first college, and no other available intake for the next 2 semesters)... so the approval was for the previous college (I saw this in the notes). I actually received Medical and BVL updates around that time too.
Towards the end of May, IRCC sent an update saying they are reviewing my additional documents (the new LOA).
That's the update so far. We are still waiting. We are also hoping FSW opens soon.
Congratulations to all PPR candidates, and all the best to 'us' awaiting PPR. 25 Likes 3 Shares |

I have a masters from France and intend to apply for a PhD. But due to lack of some certain course prerequisites, my supervisor and the program cordinator adviced I apply for their masters which will be also be fully funded and then transfer to a PhD. Will I have issues with getting a visa for a second masters given that I intend to go with my wife and daughter? Also is it okay if I ask the graduate coordinator to provide me with a written letter stating that I lacked certain course requirements?
Another problem is I require a 3.7 to be successful. How is the last two years average calculated for a masters degree holder. Will it be a course by course evaluation or will be masters degree be evaluated as a whole.
The graduate school at University of Alberta is refusing to give information on GPA conversion until I apply.
1) You will have to explain this in your LOE, give detailed convincing explanation on the reasons you stated above. Show how the courseworks are different from your previous masters and show how the courseworks in your intended program will help achieve your career goals. 2) Getting a letter from the program coordinator or your supervisor pertaining the reason will be great, it will make things smoother for you. Regarding your evaluation I think the program coordinator will be in the best position to tell you details on how they will evaluate your credentials. You can use the free conversion resources available online to compute your grades and get an idea what it will be on a 4.0 scale. I used scholaro and it tallies with what U of Toronto used for their evaluation of my last two years grade, so it probably will be close to what U of Alberta uses. Also, in my opinion, since they directed you to apply for MSc due to missing prerequisite courses in your present Masters , they would probably use your last 2 years of undergraduate studies for evaluation. You should ask your supervisor or program coordinator for confirmation. |

The LOA valid for a year and I applied for visa march 2019 for may intake which was refused on April base on two reasons; 1) VO not satisfy that I will leave canada after my study base on my employment situation 2) VO not satisfy that I will leave canada after my study base on my family tie in canada and my home country
After the refusal, I paused and checked the documents that I submitted from there I discovered my mistakes which are; No Employmen Letter No pay slip No personal bank statements No work ID No leave letter No prove of family tie at all ontop of that am single, 32 yrs of age

my personal opinion is use ur wife. I dont think they will believe u dont have a BSC at that age.wen she gets there, she can apply for SOWP 4 u.but it means u must have skills to even find a work ooo.what skills do u have sir Currently I’m a businessman. But before I started importation business, I was IT web design and programming. Been long I left that field and I feel I’m lagging behind. What I intend doing is to carry on with my application with university of Manitoba which I already started regardless of the outcome which looks like I have little chance cos of the age and study gap. I also want to enroll my wife for a master degree study in another school immediately. So we might as well run this process simultaneously. Which school is best to apply for a master program? |

Pele ! Try to start your travelling plans on time, and don't forget the closer it gets to your travel date, the higher the airline fee. Trust me; you don't want to get into the last-minute rush. Just brace up. I know it is not easy leaving loved ones. The whole effort won't be in vain by God's grace.
Just to give you some tips - Nigerian foods you can easily get here without going to African stores are Rice ( in the regular stores like Walmart, look out for "Parboiled Rice), Spaghetti, Beans ( they have beans similar to ours, look out for "Black Eyed Peas), Groundnut Oil ( More healthy than the one they sell in Nigeria). African stores have other Nigerian foods but pricey.
You can prioritize your Ogbono, semovita, Garri, bottled groundnut ( you can put this in those Eva water plastic bottles), wheat, very dried fish, egusi, Noodles ( if you are a lover of noodles), ingredients for stew ( Thyme, Curry, Maggi etc.) but the tomato, atarodo and pepper are available here at Walmart and some other stores.
Additionally, you can buy like 5 or 6 screen protectors for your phone if you use an expensive smartphone. It is way cheaper in Nigeria and more expensive in Canada buying a screen protector. The screen protector I bought for 1,000 naira for my Huawei phone is $40 dollars here. I was lucky to see it for $20 dollars somewhere else and this might be more expensive in other highbrow provinces like Ontario, British Columbia etc
Congrats again and wish you a safe trip in advance. Thank you very much Olasubomy. I will be sure to keep these in mind. You are just amazing! |

My special appreciation goes to God that made my dreams come to reality. He deserves all the glory. I also want to appreciate @JustMellow (gcmswriters) for his guidance and prompt approach in handling my LOE. I reached out to him when I received my notes thinking I could explain the lumpsums before a decision was made but refusal came some days after. JustMellow assisted in writing my LOE to address the financial concerns as well as reconstruct my SOP to address purpose of visit (studied engineering but going for business management course). God bless you and cause his face to shine upon you. Going for a 2yr PG certificate. Thank you to everyone for their selfless contributions on this thread. The advices, comments and testimonies kept me going even when it looked like all hope was lost. Thank you for the congratulatory messages. God bless you all.
PS: I was able to reapply 3 days after my initial refusal because I already had my GCMS notes and had addressed the concerns in my LOE. All PPR hopefuls will testify soon by God’s grace.
Please how did you tackle “purpose of visit” as that’s the only reason I was denied And how do I get to just mellow Thanks 2 Likes |

Bank doesn't confirm present availability of funds. Their duty is jst to confirm that the bank statement submitted is genuine. dotoracs:
It's not on the MBS list. Usually, IRCC sends them a letter to confirm the said balances and current availability of the funds and they officially respond through their legal department. That's where my POFs are too.

Thank you for the replies. Cc; LFJ11 I will ask for the document from them. I have a 15/20 French GPA. The problem with French grades is the lack of uniformity in conversion across universities worldwide. I have also tried scholaro and it is more suited with the US market. It's conversion is different in Canada. For example, like most US universities, Scholaro grades 14 upwards as an A, an A in McGill is 16 upwards. In Australia, an A is 15 upwards. In Scholaro, a 13/20 is 3.0. The same 13 is a B+ (3.3) at McGill while for university of Alberta, it is their minimum grade which I take to be a 3.0. The problem is Alberta only provided the minimum grading for France. I guess I won't know until I apply. SuomyNona:

You should ask your supervisor or program coordinator for confirmation Thank you for bringing this up. I need to have this confirmed cos if they decide to use my undergrad, I'm royally bleeped. Local man was not serious during undergraduate days. Last 4 undergrad GPA are 4.6, 2.9, 4.56, 3.08. The discrepancy is enough for them to bin my application. |
