I am first hand witness to this. I got married last year and I did everything online including payment, before proceeding to the registry for completion of the registration process. This information is true to the letter. Firstly, if they notice you did your application and payment online, they will intentionally frustrate u because of that. One accountant that's supposed to sign before u take ur documents to the registrar's office will tell u "No network" for days. Meanwhile, he'll be validating for other people that paid N25,000 to them physically. When he eventually agrees to pass u on to the next stage, he'll want to sell post office stamp worth N50 for N1000. I had to get to Falomo post office and back to get stamp at N50. Infact, I bought 4 stamps, incase he wants to say one might need more than 1 stamp. Then when u get to the registrar's office, u will pay N2000 first before they attend to you. On the marriage date nko, u will pay N500, N1000 on almost each table u get to. It can be so frustrating that these people extort you in broad daylight just cos you want to get married legally. The system at that Ikoyi registry is very bad. I got married there and I was almost frustrated just for the fact that I registered and made my payments online. Worrying part is you will not even get succour from the Registrar as the lady sitting beside him will collect N2,000 from you before she will even check to confirm your online application is fine. They just actively and brazenly discourage the use of the online application even though they have a banner in front that registrations are online. 4 Likes |

I have been waiting for something like this. Thank you Mr reporter. The charges are so weird. Imagine them telling forcing you to pay for a photographer whether you use him or not. Corruption is thrive because people get away with it. Nothing will come out of this report. 1 Like |

That's how they do. A friend of mine paid online and took the printout there. They refused to answer him telling him to go to and meet the person he paid to online. He had to pay the 28k they demanded in cash there and then before they answered him. Even the local government ones too. They'll collect up today 10k in various ways and a pack of can malt (Osogbo registry precisely) |

Did mine in church and was given the same marriage certificate issued by Ikoyi (So sure because I was even involved in the church licence renewal for conducting marriage as my marriage fall within the same period) I went to Ikoyi to request for notification abi Na permit to take to church, they were requesting for 35k(same fee with those collecting the certificate from them), I just talk to the pastor in charge to ask how should I go about the permit, he said I can get it from any local government, most especially where I reside or where the church is, I just Waka go the LGA where the church is, everything cost less than 11k including, Oya celebrate for us(only 1person requested for this). We even overpaid one of the fee, we were told it's 2, ₦5500 during application, ₦5000 when the notification is out, when we got there, the lady just told us, Oya go and pay ₦8500, she mistook us for someone else that wants to conduct theirs at the LGA, so when the error was discovered, they collected our receipt, gave it to a lady and the lady followed us to all offices we passed through (3) to inform them of the error so they can easily correct it when someone else is making similar payment and we can get our refund. We got our refund when we went for the notification permit without stress. All federal government issued marriage certificate is valid irrespective of where the marriage is conducted. Am also a witness to this. Was there during the week. But what can man do. I gat to pay noni. God will keep providing for my needs and those people stealing from us. There life will keep been in spot. Don't be surprised there life and families are in a stagnant position . The money they are stealing from others ,they won't know how they are spending it. 2 Likes |

Government has gone to sleep again. Because now the culprits are the corrupt government officials themselves and not Sunday Igboho or Nnamdi Kanu. By now several heads should have rolled and several people sacked at that Ikoyi registry without pension or gratuity. The ICPC whose one and only job is to investigate and punish corrupt Government officials has also gone to sleep on this matter. Names and faces of these criminals in Government should be flooding the social media space so that the whole world can see the faces of these enemies of progress in Nigeria and they can be dealt with accordingly. But no, by now all the directors and senior officers of that evil registry will proceed to go on leave and dissappear indefinitely until the heat dies down. Now that the victims here are the citizens, the government will turn a blind eye to this, the people involved will deny everything and everyone will move on. I can bet that the investigative journalist must have had a body camera on his person to capture the live events incase the officials involved try to deny it or threaten his life for exposing them. We are all watching this event closely. If the Buhari Government does nothing about this in the two years he has left, nobody should come here and say any rubbish that Buhari Government is not corrupt. The same force and fierceness with which they go after Igboho and Kanu should be deployed in getting rid of all these thieves and criminals in govt robbing citizens daily in broad daylight. 1 Like |
