I guess, it came with experience. You can only fail so much and it will get to a point that you'll start getting the hang of things after multiple experiences. Even Outgoing Woodward was beginning to make good decisions at the tail end of his stay in the club.

Yes they've surely learnt the hard way Woody especially, that his infamous statement about us being capable of doing what other clubs can only dream of in the TM came back to bite us hard. Hopefully no more overpaying for players.

United offers contracts based on potential rather than previous achievements, as well as to ward off interest from other clubs.

When these ‘talents’ start earning that much so early, the underperformance kicks in.

For context, Harry Kane has constantly dropped 20+ goals since 2014 in the premier league, bar two ‘bad’ seasons where he dropped 17 & 18, yet is on £200k/wk.

Martial dropped 10 goals in the league and United offered him £250k/wk.

Martial’s best season goal-wise in the Premier League is Harry Kane’s worst season. 17 goals. Yet Martial earns more.

KDB had to negotiate his wage himself using data analysis to convince City into a £385k weekly pay.

Whereas Sanchez had not kicked a ball for United and they offered him £500k/wk. Some outlets report up to £560k. Sanchez couldn’t register up to 4 goals total in a season till he left.

This and so many more crazy wages. United needs to review their wage structure, and quit offering based on potential.

I do not support the extension either. But I don’t think they would offer him a new deal if there was absolutely no reason for it. Ofcourse the manager cannot be exempted, if he had told the board he has no use for Mata, then he wouldn’t have been offered a new deal. I am just suggesting that they renewed his contract because of his contributions in the dressing room. With the way the pandemic has hit club finances, I don’t think they will be spending money on a new deal for Mata if they didn’t deem it necessary for some reason.

Can you please apply this same theory to Dr Phil Jones and Dr Bailly’s contracts?
