Lucrative?Divide N500000/500 , what you get is still not lucrative. An average Nigeria worker barely survive on N30000/month

Then how come people in abroad have more money than their contemporaries back home in Nigeria?

Same way some people in Nigeria are able to have more money upon how people are complaining about the country..

All the people I'm affiliated with that moved abroad are all doing great, and 100 percent of them are from the south. I think southerners are more go getters than the MB or north especially those from the west and Eastern part of the country.

A friend of mine that left the country 3 years ago is now building a duplex in warri. His brother is married to an Irish and a citizen so he helped him secure a job. His salary right now due to exchange rate is almost 1.5 million a month.

Bill are inevitable in Nigeria too.
The only diff is that Nigerians cut corners.
Both rich and poor.

It's hard to cut corners abroad.

Bills are higher in Nigeria actually when you do the math.

My only regret of moving to Canada is why I waited too long to move. Comparing Canada to Nigeria under any condition is like comparing CNN to NTA...quite ridiculous.

Mind you eventually i and my family including my kids will be Canadians but we're still Nigerians meaning in the future we can stay anywhere depending on where the good life is which is obviously Canada for now

He said "move" abroad not travel. I have lived overseas and travelled to many places and I have never met a northerner who has settled in another country as an immigrant. Yes I have met a few northerner students but never have I met a settler.

Good point. Most Nigerians even dupe the country's power generating company by bypassing light and shit, making them pay less bills. You can't do that abroad.

One of the problems with Nigerians is not willing to take on challenges. Nothing can be more challenging than moving into a new environment. If you can't adapt, you get eaten up.

Most Northerners by culture are conservative. They move abroad to study and come home to use the education and exposure received abroad to move-up the ladders in Nigerian societies.

A sane advice is for anyone with a good job in Nigeria considering moving abroad to first visit the country of his choice first, observe life overseas and finally return after comparing both climes.
I know a set of people will throw tantrums upon reading what I said above. To them the only thing stopping them from success is a visa and a ticket - upon stepping on any country in Europe or America, they are automatically billionaires like Dangote. Lack of research has really hurt many making such life-changing decisions.

Roughly 20 years ago when I visited the US embassy in Lagos, I observed a man sitting on a wheelchair, holding a sign saying stuff totally against the US government, right in front of the embassy. I was touched and wanted to know what his problem was. Anyone going to that embassy around then would remember him - he was crippled, not begging, rather having a one-man protest with his visible signs strapped all over his wheelchair.
After I got done with my business in the embassy, I came out and saw him on same wheelchair with same sign and asked him what his problem was. He told me a lot about his life in the US the decades he spent here and how he ended up on the wheelchair.
But his main advise relevant to this topic is what I said in the first paragraph, which is still relevant today - don't make irrational decisions, do your proper research.

The grass is not always greener on the other side. Everyone's success or failures overseas depend largely on those you are surrounded by in whatever clime you find yourself in.
If you are surrounded by Nigerian professionals willing to show you the ropes, you might just be able to secure a professional job like them and start your life.

On the flip side, if you're surrounded by the Nigerian gangs into drugs, gangbanging, hardcore nightlife, you are bound to be like them as well.

Many in the latter category tend to forget what brought them overseas in the first place, and disregard the most important thing they need - establishing their legal status in their host country.
The worst story I've heard is when someone allowed his stay to expire and said he forgot to do what he needed to do to renew it. He said he was too deep into drugs, partying and clubbing and forgot. If you know why you came somewhere, stay abreast of how to stay there legally - don't forget something that important.

On a realer note, one big advise would be don't sell your house if you own one in Nigeria to go overseas when you don't know what to expect there.
Many of those you will meet in these countries are unwilling to return to Nigeria because of the constant bad news about Nigeria, and mainly because they have no where to stay when they get back home.
If some had a place to stay, they'd gladly return home. So, why sell a home you already own when many people in the country you're heading to are still struggling with owning one home in Nigeria?
They can always face the bad news like everyone else in Nigeria that lives with it. Not return to Nigeria to become homeless.

Don't resign from a good job you already have in Nigeria. Visit the place first and see things for yourself. You'd be surprised from that experience alone, but it's worth it.

I've heard of stories of people planning to relocate to foreign countries and end up getting abandoned by the friends and family members they relied on, right there at the airport. So, how do you expect to know the system anywhere when you don't know anyone to show you the ropes?

Like someone said in the earlier posts, information is key. Lack of information is what makes a lot of Nigerians make hasty decisions.

Most of the people commenting here are delusional. You have no first hand experience but will quickly jump at answers and conclusion.

The best set of people to migrate are single folks less than 30. The important part is that you need to be smart. Have the right skills and experience and be very much driven. In 2-3 years if you get into the right countries with proper work authorization, the sky is the limit.

I know of the UK and Canada and I have more than 10 family and friends that have been able to multiply their income by more than 10 times since they left Nigeria. All in less than 5 years.

Minimum wage in Calgary is $15/hr for god sake.
