Protect your country from separatists

From all available news, there are no separatists in Northern Nigeria - your country... Simply terrorists such as BH, Herdsmen and recently ISWAP.

YOUR UNCLE HAS NOT TOLD YOU THE TRUTH.

YOU THINK ITS EASY TO JUST GET A JOB IN THE US?

IS IMMIGRATION LAWYER FREE OR EVEN CHEAP?

IS THE ASYLUM PROCESS THAT EASY THAT YOU JUST APPLY AND INSTANTA YOU GET TEMPORARY ASYLEE STATUS?

GETTING A CAR IN THE US IS PROBABLY ONE OF THE EASIEST THINGS TO DO COS 2ND HAND CARS ARE CHEAP, ESPECIALLY THE OLDER ONES, SO THATS NOT REALLY AN ACHIEVEMENT. THE LAND HE BOUGHT IN NAIJA, WHAT IS THE QUALITY OF THE LAND? I CAN BET IS ONE OF THOSE LAND DEEP INSIDE BUSH.

AMBULANCE IS NOT LIKE WE SEE IN THE MOVIES OH. IT TAKES TIME TO ARRIVE, THATS THE FIRST SHOCKER. THEN YOU PAY FOR THE TRIP TO HOSPITAL. IM SURE HE DOESNT HAVE INSURANCE SO HE IS LUCKY THEY TOOK HIM IN AS AN EMERGENCY CASE OTHERWISE HE WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN TREATED. ALSO, KIDNEY STONE IS NOT INSTANTLY FATAL; HOSPITALS IN NAIJA HANDLE SUCH ROUTINELY.

ABROAD IS NOT HEAVEN...LOOK VERY WELL BEFORE JUMPING BECAUSE ANOTHER PERSON JAPA IS NOT YOUR OWN JAPA.

IF YOU ARE WILLING TO WORK AS HARD IN NAIJA, YOU WILL MAKE IT HERE AS WELL.

THE MAJOR CONSOLATION FOR DOING HARD MENIAL JOBS ABROAD IS THAT THERE IS SOME DIGNITY OF LABOUR THERE, PLUS WHEN YOU CONVERT THE MONEY TO NAIRA, YOU FEEL A SENSE OF CONSOLATION.

MOST TIMES, AWON ABROAD PEOPLE DO NOT TELL THE WHOLE TRUTH ABOUT THEIR SITUATION AND I THINK IT IS REALLY BAD OF THEM.

ABROAD IS FOR YOU IF

1. YOU HAVE NOTHING IN NAIJA
2. YOU ARE SINGLE
3. YOU ARE BELOW 30YRS

I swear you just hit the nail on the head!!! Lemme tell you my uncle's story. For so many years he's been trying to move abroad and he's been duped a couple of times. He got admission and refused to go to school saying the Nigerian system as being useless!! He's been working as a security guard for several years and the while family saw him as being useless and having no ambition! Everyone gave up on him! Omo this uncle of mine had all his mind in the US and it's either USA or nothing!! Then in 2017 God picked his call and he got a visit visa to the USA for a conference in NEW YORK Omo before he left withing a week the while family raised 900K for him plus his own little savings so he left. After the conference in NEW YORK , he moved to another State then started planning numerous legal ways to legalise his stay. He knew he had to look for ways to legalise his stay withing the 2yrs his visit visa was valid. So to cut story short , he applied for Asylum with a valid reason and he employed and immigration lawyer mind you the moment he applied for Asylum he was given a temporary work permit of which he could use to work pending till when his Asylum case is being determined , he was also given an accommodation and Food stamp. To cut the story short , he was granted an asylum and he now enjoys benefits in the US. As of today he has a house he bought in the US , A car , he has a land in Nigeria too and he's been helping family members to some extent. So I would say for someone who has only WAEC and was working a security job in Nigeria living a good life top earners live in Nigeria I would say moving abroad brought only good tidings for him. 2yrs back he collapse at work and And 911 was called they came ASAP was administering first aid to him right in the Ambulance until he got to the Hospital. Dr said something about Kidney stone or something I can't recollect but he called his siblings and told them about it Omo everybody don begin dey plan how them go start praying and fasting Omo the next day he called and said the Dr operated on him and it's been resolved!!! Now tell me if he was in Nigeria na mortuary in for land!

So looking at my uncle's case Omo if you no what's you're doing and you're so determined to move abroad not cos you're being forced Omo you go make am abeg!! In 2019 he even tried to help 6 members of the family come over!! He paid money for our passports and Visa application fees but Omo dem deny all of us ooo!! So for me Abroad anytime any day!

Abroad is better when you are at a disadvantage in Nigeria and have nothing working for you.
In my village, the richest people are in Nigeria doing biz. Your 10yrs in abroad may not equal their yearly income.
I know know how much I realise monthly too from my biz.

May be unnecessary bills.. 2 bdr apartment in Usa, not furnished oo, standard one is from $1500 per month.. How much is that in Naira? How much is 2bdr apt per annum in Nigeria?

The amount you mentioned is not the AVERAGE rent for 2bedrooms in US. Please verify via Google.
About 10 states costs half of the average.
But,
The minimum wage for an hour in US is about $10 or more. If you are working for 8hrs mon - Fri for 4weeks, that's 160hrs, multiply this by 10, = $1600. One can choose one bedroom or rent some of the cheap inns at a far lower amount.
This is for common jobs
Other bills including food is cheap.

So one can comfortably save half of the pay and can even increase the number of working hours by adding maybe Saturdays.

I don't expect everyone to agree with me,you can look for a job that pays ₦500k a month and see how easy it is to get such and how secure your position is when you are employed.

Can you even afford to pay someone ₦150k as an employee of labor in this hard times?
some of you are not rationale when making demands
this is exactly what I am saying 150k is not easy to come by couple with non ending inflation, how do you now advise someone to stay in Nigeria with that pay if opportunity to move abroad presents itself.

Someone on minimum wage in developed country (UK,US,Canada e.t.c) we fair better even after paying tax and bills. And the sweet thing is the minimum wage job is easy to get.

The SWEET THING is that what that ?small $1500 monthly pay can get you in somewhere like the US, your Naija monthly Salary of #400, 000 can't still get dem, excluding thieves & govt approved thieves.
We complain a lot.
Especially coming from the POOREST COUNTRY in the world. That's my annoyance.
Nigerians just want to arrive d developed world & start heading Organizations with degrees from d most poorly resourced schools in d world.
That's GREED in Action.
I left as a top professional but I'm not regretting it at all.
You can't be a CROCODILE in a 3rd world nation and expect to retain such immediately in a developed world.
It takes sometime.
The Only constant thing is for you to keep moving. Which these countries permit.

What the heck!

What you said is very true.

I have a friend who's career and mine started at the same time...by the time we were both CFO in different companies he left his job and moved to Canada.

He got there thinking he would be offered a job as a CFO but after searching for almost 6 months he was forced to take career discount and accept a job that was almost like starting from scratch.

He told me himself that if he knew what he was going to face in Canada he would have just remained in Nigeria!

I had a very nice job before I left Nigeria.
Did I move to go flex "abroad"? Hell nope.

I only moved so that my generations unborn will start their lives on a better pedestal than mine.

Note that I was aware of all the bills, odd jobs, and horrible climate before I moved since I had a forerunner sibling here. Suffice it to say that I took the bold step out of my willingness to sacrifice now for my kids.

Has it paid off? Somebody epp me shout a big Hallelujah! Aka Chukwu di ya!

Re: Do You Regret Leaving Your Lucrative Nigerian Job For Abroad Menial Job by WhyNa: 10:36am On Jul 05, 2021
Perhaps I joined this thread late but better late than never.

First, here's a brief history of my life in Naija before I moved.

The highest salary I had ever earned was 60k. That's less than 150 USD for more than 200 hours job. Even that 60k sef, I chop am only 3 times before I comot.

In 2014, when I decided to leave, I was looking at the big countries but because I couldn't afford it, I spent another 4-5 years trying various scholarships.

2019, I got tired and decided to lower my "standards". Go for a small country and work my way up. Little did I know it was a blessing in disguise.

After much research, in February 2020, I left for Vietnam to teach English. I knew from research, the least amount I could get paid was 800USD per month per 100 hours. I laughed as I had seen worse in Naija. I even got a job for 900 USD before I left but I rejected it when I got here. (There's a detailed thread of my journey to Vietnam on Nairaland)

Long story short, I got here, Vietnam surpassed my expectations and I've been climbing higher and higher since then. Go check out my thread for more info.

Now due to Covid and all, after being here for a year and 6 months and working fully for only about 8/9 months, I started thinking of moving to Canada which was my plan initially. Start small, save up, move.

Back to the drawing board....I knew moving, I had to have a very good degree that is highly sort after or a skill to survive the bills and all. The only other option was to go back to school.

I started checking out schools and fees and even though I now had enough to pay for my studies, I had to think of what NEXT after studies, the income to savings ratio and also ask myself what the other advantages are THEN compare with what I have now.

Well, I have decided to stay back here in Vietnam until for any unforeseen reasons, I decide it's time to move cos I'm wayyy more than comfortable here. Cos of living is mega cheap the highest thing I spend on is rent and my current fully furnished to the teeth one bedroom apartment is not up to 250 USD

Now before you comment about Vietnam being a poor country and all that, don't let your ignorance get the best of you. Google. Then ask yourself why even though Naija is bad, there are foreigners who are living comfortably there buying every single thing in supermarkets et all. They earn wayyyy higher than the local. It's the same story here.

So NO, I don't regret moving. It's been one year and some and I don't even miss or dream of going back to visit.

Modified: Oh and let me add...the first three months wasn't rosy.

Two weeks after I came in, total lockdown started. We were indoors for 3 months. Survived on my BTA, landlady reduced rent for me, then back up from home.

It wasn't funny. Immediately after the lockdown, things changed

Just as some people said its all about misconception about life abroad. Some people thing they take money from tree in USA or canada, I am working in Nigeria and I once nurse the thought of leaving my job, selling my car, my house and move to Canada, but I took time to study things and I listen to people like phrankleen on YouTub., I have a clearer picture of life abroad now. that does not mean I will not travel at all but then i am better informed now. So if you want to travel at all cost know what to expect there ,don't just think the whites will give you a red carpet, and worship you. Expect the harsh weather , the bills the possibility of doing menial jobs to survive. and being at the bottom of the spectrum. and for some of our people that keeps saying they are doing it for their kids., know surely your kids are not going to be much different from you, they will still go through the cycle you pass through to survive in most developed countries. Its not a joke that the black Americans are relocating to African countries now. Ghana, Gambia Kenya Rwanda. I understand things are not working as most of us expected in Nigeria but Nigeria is
still better than most places people run to in the name of greener pasture.

Most of the people commenting here are delusional. You have no first hand experience but will quickly jump at answers and conclusion.

The best set of people to migrate are single folks less than 30. The important part is that you need to be smart. Have the right skills and experience and be very much driven. In 2-3 years if you get into the right countries with proper work authorization, the sky is the limit.

I know of the UK and Canada and I have more than 10 family and friends that have been able to multiply their income by more than 10 times since they left Nigeria. All in less than 5 years.

Minimum wage in Calgary is $15/hr for god sake.

The thread smells like a propaganda thread.
