I own the JK BMS with 2A balance current. Pretty nice and versatile.

A neighbour bought the 300A Daly BMS, will arrive this week.

@mctfopt Want to delve into the world of lifepo4 in nearest future. Please what is your experience so far with JK BMS with 2A balance current.
Thinking about building bank of 16S in two units (280AH 48V config), with each string hooked on to a BMS. Plan is to parallel the string to achieve 560AH 48V config.

Oga Saipro, you're in the right position to answer my questions because you used 4 PC's of 12v 200Ah batteries (48v system) with 3 or 3.5kva inverter in 2015/2016.

How have you been managing you loads then because I intend to setup a similar system?
Have you been loading your appliances while charging (with solar panels) or you've been waiting for it to be fully charged before loading?
If loaded while still charging, have you ever gotten full charge, say 52v or thereabouts?
Whatever you use to have in the evening, has it been sustaining you till the following morning?
My intending usage is:
Day consumption: 600w x 12hrs = 7200wh
Night consumption: 400 x 12hrs = 4800wh.
My system setup plan: 4 pcs of 12v 230Ah tubular battery. 48v/3.5kva inverter. 8 pcs of 320 mono panels and 48v/60A mppt charge controller.

Well, it works. It is capable of balancing (up to 2A) I checked with a clamp meter.

Also you can set your cut off voltage (if you don't like the preset value).

wow. quite huge. 16S 300A UART R485 with bluetooth app worth over 150K. daly bms is always huge and rugged. the only downside is the low balancing amp. but that can be complimented by this 3A super Capacitor balancer

This is a beast. I guess useful for people using fairly used lifepo4 batteries, which may require such a huge balancing current.
Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by mctfopt: 9:35am On Jul 08, 2021
olopan:
It's quite huge,

I have being having a thorough thought on

1. Balancing capability of the Daly series
2. Getting a Rs485/CAN comm via some work around to talk to inverter
3. Also ability to tweak the SOC to do local switching of loads et cetera.

If after my research the above fail to meet requirements then the expensive batrium with active community and CAN work around could be considered

But to the Daly as a balancing compliment a Deligreen 1s balancer would be a cheap way to save cost

All is a thought in process, taking it one step at a time

Batrium is the Ferrari of BMS and will require you sell some vital organs grin

Boss, I intend to use 7200wh during the day and 4800wh during the night.

I'm yet to minus 50% dod.

Since will be using Solar during the day, DOD is irrelevant as you will be charging during the day and be using 4800wh in the night.

I will recommend 15KWH batteries bank preferably Lifepo4 300AH @ 51.2V

Solar 5 or 6 KW Solar array (minimum)

Inverter 48V..

You need 16pcs of 320w

Nice idea, the only challenge with this is that if by 430pm there is no power from the utility, the loads will still keep taking power from the inverter which I do not want.
Barezzi:
I assume all your loads are on the inverter output.
I also assume your inverter switches to "pass thru" mode when connected to the grid.

Install a suitably rated 2NC contactor on the Grid supply to the inverter.
Install a timer switch and a victron bmv700 battery monitor in series with the coil of the contactor above.
Set timer "on" time to 10am and "off" time to 4.30pm.
Set bmv700 SOC "on" to 100%(battery full) and "off" to 80%(or any level between 50% and 100% that suits your fancy)

Grid > 2NC Contactor > Inverter > Loads

Both conditions above must be met for the contactor to energize and disconnect the grid supply to your inverter.
If before 4.30pm the battery level drops below 80%, the contactor will de-energize and restore grid supply(if available) to your inverter.

A 2NC contactor is used to eliminate vampire current draw by the contactor at night when there's no solar.

Hmmm, won't this solution still allow the inverter to be charging when there is utility during that period of the day? It think it does.

Barezzi:
Alternatively, install a 2NO contactor on the output of the inverter if your loads are not normally on inverter e.g Aircon, fridges etc
Hook up a suitably rated ATS downstream of the contactor.

Inverter > 2NO Contactor > ATS < Grid

Connect your loads to the ATS.
The contactor will allow or deny inverter supply thru the ATS to your loads based on time of day and battery SOC, else they remain on the grid.
Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by Barezzi(m): 10:15am On Jul 08, 2021
You can combine both and get a PLC or node-red or discrete controls to drive all your contactors. You can even incorporate current sensors to allow grid supply or disconnect the loads if consumption exceeds a certain threshold.

I just remembered that I have a raspberry pie that I haven't used, I'd like to believe I will be able to deploy it for something like that.

I've gotten 4pcs of 230Ah genus tubular batteries already.

I hope the 16pcs of 320w panels will not be too much?

The technology is over mature, getting old self! It is just the entering price point for us here in Nigeria, that is the problem.

You can start with Fangpusun, contact JUO for the inverter, I think he still has one for sale.

Yeah, that's true. But the price to benefit ratio is still a bit high for me. But its definitely going to be next on my next upgrade cycle. I have been seeing a lot of LiFeP04 battery bundles and DIY setups all over the place. However, a common complain is sourcing original Grade A batteries and getting ones with right voltage and capacity. Lithium is still a bit high level for me. Yeah, I have been following @JUO here on the thread and his page on Konga. The Fangpusun XTM inverter looks good but I am still skeptical on its quality and looking for more opinions.

If I'm right, 15kwh battery bank should be about 6pcs of 230Ah which you suggested would go with 5k or 6kw panel array.

Back to my budget of 4 x 12v x 230Ah battery bank, could I get 10kwh daily production from 10 x 320w mono panels with 60A mppt charge controller?

If I get fund to push my battery bank to 6 x 12 x 230Ah, how many panels of 320w will be needed and how many kwh do you think it will produce daily?

Depends on how long and the state of charge before you stop using them.

Generally, batteries shouldn't be left in a discharged state for more than two days or so

Please I have two questions for the experts in the forum
1) at what voltage is a 220ah tubular battery considered DEAD?

2) at what voltage is it expected for an inverter to beep "battery low" for the safety of the battery?
