HON. EMEKA MARTINS CHINEDU MOVES THE HOUSE TO ADOPT A MOTION TO ESTABLISH MEDICAL CLINICS IN ALL NIGERIAN AIRPORTS IN ORDER TO ADDRESS ISSUES OF HEALTHCARE AND MEDICAL EMERGENCIES AT THE AIRPORTS.

In a motion he moved in the House on Thursday 8, 2021, the member representing the good people of Ahiazu/Ezinihitte Mbaise Federal Constituency argued inter alia that:

"according to Ports Health Services Nigeria: five of the Country's International Airports namely: Murtala Muhammad International Airport Lagos; Port Harcourt International Airport Omagwa; Margarate Ekpo International Airport Calabar; Aminu Kano International Airport Kano and Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport Abuja, were designated to function with full packaged Medical facilities and Stand-by Medical practitioners for the purpose of Healthcare and medical emergencies", whereas the aforementioned Airports are presently operating with either deplorable, little or no medical facilities, while the remaining Airports are practically without verifiable medical facilities".

For the people who think that medical facilities in the Airport is a luxury, Hon. Chinedu cited the sudden death in December 2019, of a young traveller, identified as Mr. Chukwuma Eze, 47, who reportedly died under a questionable circumstance in Murtala Mohammed International Airport - Lagos; another death of one Mr. Jude Oladapo, 44, on October 2019 in the same circumstance and venue; and the unfortunate episode of a female passenger, reportedly found dead in one of the Toilets at the International wing of the Murtala Mohammad Airport, that maybe consequences of inadequacies in medical attention in our Airports.

The Legislative Tactician who is aware that a transit friendly environment such as Airport, is expected to be equipped with Medical Facilities that offer tones of services, with engagement of medical practitioners such as: emergency physicians; occupational medicine physicians; nurse practitioners, and radiology technicians, for emergencies as guarantee for traveller's confidence, is also aware that the medical practitioners must be on hand to take care of the medical need of the sick and emergencies such as: issuing of "Sick Note" for travellers who may not be strong enough to fly due to under the weather condition; and vaccinate passengers who maybe travelling to Countries that are susceptible to pandemic disease such as Covid-19 or Ebola, as well as, handle situations such as: allergic reactions, heart attacks, seizures, dehydration and so on;

While Hon. Chinedu is of the believe that the establishment of Medical Facilities in Airports, with engagement of professionals who would operate round the clock, can tackle issues of Healthcare, emergencies and exigencies, with some degree of appreciable sustenance and resuscitation before further action;

He also believes that having the option of such medical convenience in all Nigerian Airports that would compulsorily get some peoples' back at the time of need, can only bestow confidence on the travellers, Airport workers, and the people who may want to engage in one business or the other at the Airport;

A visibly worried Hon. Chinedu explained that despite the initial designation for full packaged medical facilities in accordance with the report of "Ports Health Services Nigeria", and the obvious huge and daily concentration of transactional benefits from persons of different background and nationalities in the Airports, our Federal Airport Authority is yet to go beyond the ordinary "First Aide".

He further explained that, the lack of substantially equipped Medical Clinics and Medical practitioners in our Airports, maybe a recipe for more avoidable deaths in our Airports, thereby eroding Travellers confidence and jeopardizing our chances of commensurate interaction with the global world.

The house in its decision, unanimously resolved to urge the Federal Ministry of Aviation to partner with the Federal Ministry Of Health and other related Agencies to establish Medical Clinics in all the Airports in the Country; and mandate the House Committees on Aviation, and Health Institutions to ensure implementation.

Nice move in the right direction. It's even shameful learn that our airports lack standard medical facilities.

So this bill/news that seek to make Nigeria a responsible nation in the comity to nations isn't generating much readership and comments.

Our airports deserve standard health facilities, not just in cases of emergency but because it's a standard practice globally.
May Nigeria win.

Abaribe should come and learn something and stop playing on the emotions of my people

Abaribe have not sponsored a single bill for over 16 years as a senator

All Abaribe does is feasting and playing on the emotions of my people

Abaribe, if you don't start woring for my people and giving them what rightly belongs to them, Chukwu igbo will be up against you. If you have ears , hear!

.Abaribe will sing Igbo praises by day and lick Buhari's yansh by night

Don't bother quoting me negatively, I don't read my mentions
