Why didn't the police arrest them then for lying, isn't that an offence?

The police have bigger things to attend to like ipob terrorists.

Is the dss underfunded? Is the army underfunded? Are they not part of the security system? Don’t they collaborate and work together on sensitive issues so what’s the problem when it comes to bandits?? undecided

The police can handle all high level cases infact most they always collaborate.

Our budget as a whole is very very low. Nigeria needs far more money than the less than 30 billion USD we budget every year.

A low budget does not excuse the mistakes made by our security forces, but it does also show why they are not effective as they should be.

And NO, I am not defending any regime. or defending the police response to them bandits. I am just being frank. And it is a pity our government cannot see that their way of running the economy is not generating the funds we need.

Saboteurs are desperately campaigning for the abolishment of the SIM linkage for the reason best known to them

Who exactly are the "saboteurs" in this case?

Has the SIM linkage succeeded in addressing terrorism and banditry?

Who told you the number the bandits used to call you...was their real number?

Remember the recent kidnap case in Abuja where the kidnappers demanded payment in bitcoin? They traced the number...to a random hawker in one of the markets. When questioned, the guy said one random woman bought his sim. Of course...he could not describe the woman..and he had never met her before in his life...nor did he see her again.

For all we know, them bandits have lots of such numbers...stolen, registered by proxies, or bought...and use their real numbers for non-criminal activities.

Modified

A better alternative would be to track the bandits via triangulation off the nearest mobile antenna.

Also, let's be honest. Our police gets 2 billion dollars to police 200 million people. NYPD of the USA gets 10 billion dollars to police 25 million people. Nigeria needs to change the way we run our economy to earn enough to fund our law enforcement adequately.

Modified 2

This post is not a defence of the government. Read the bolded to see why it isn't. It is also not a defence of Fulanis, an attack on Biafra, or OODUA, or in service to imperailists.

Give the whole federation budget to the police to police the people. Tufia!

Here is a simple way to track kidnappers

Stop the sale of pre-registered and pre-linked SIMS

Restrict everyone to one to five SIMS for mobile networks only

Arrest anyone who sells his SIM

Bandits would be forced to use their real numbers....and be easily tracked.

This isn't a solution either. Kidnappers usually use the phones of their victims for these transactions. The closest solution will be to track the exact location where the calls originate from, to get an approximate area where the victim is being held

The hawker sold his sim card to a woman who asked him to sell it to her...a woman he did not know at all. At no point did he know what the card would be used for, until the cops came knocking.

And we need a database of some sorts. That's why SIM-NIN linkage is important.

Infact, one reason why we need the linkage...people were buying pre-registered SIMS(essentially one guy can buy 50 sims, register them in his name, and then sell them on to individuals who don't want to wait in line for SIM registraiton)...which can make it dififcult to track kidnappers and bandits...who would buy such sims.

Refrain from spilling trash here. The person you quoted was indirectly telling you to have a rethink about the matter. Look at it from another perspective. "In most cases", only a greedy person will sell their sim card. Why did he sell the sim card? And how much did the old woman buy it? What even makes you think that this was what happened?

Any justification for the systemic error that we have in Naija here is trash. Give the police 3 Trillion dollars; it won't stop them from collecting bribes. Corruption has been institutionalized in this country. Granted that no system is devoid of corrupt practices, ours is on the worst side. I rest my case

Another myopic reasoning! Here's a question for you: What if the kidnaper uses one of the victims' mobile numbers to call? I wonder if you have any excellent analytical skills. Again, stopping making irrational comments here. Go back to your political godfather. Tufia!

Imagine when your political godfather implements all the sh1t you suggested, then finds out that the kidnapers can use the victims' mobile phones in hindsight?

Lol. We knew the rationale behind the NIN registration naw. Over 5m Nigerien had been integrated into Nigeria through this means by Pantami. They used to say they don't want censors . Recently they've been shouting censors because of those already added to their number. The issue on ground now is on electronic voting system which they say they don't want and its because they've not found a means of gaming it yet. Imagine borno where boko haram holds sway record so much votes in 2015 and 2019 respectively. Fulanis are super riggers but this is ending soon. They say there would not be network in rural areas so , electronic voting could be approved but not transmission of results electronically. But the same people go to villages and make calls during sallah to friends and family around the world . They check their mails, even transfer funds using their apps and read news online without issues wile in villages...they make use of data too. Many of them had called or participated un channels tv live political programmes from their various villages via Skype and zoom without issues...but the same people said there would be no network in the rural areas. These people think they're wise. The end to functionalities of their rigging machine is near .

We can even accommodate other means of voting. The voting system doesn't have to be rigid.

I got furious when I watched Buhari talk on Arise TV weeks ago. My guy just dey use us catch cruise

There's no surprise in this news. In many of my previous posts on this issue, I have highlighted d folly in forcing people to link sim to NIN all in d name of security. This same govt forced people to do BVN claiming that it will end 419, kidnapping and fraud, but nothing to show. Then they came up with NiN. One thing is obvious, this govt has failed in it's responsibility to provide security and it keeps shifting d goal post instead of taking responsibility. Or there might just be an ulterior motive beyond d surface cos I don't see why a minister of communication will abandon his duties and be so obsessed with security as if he is d IGP

Even the so-called MTN with highly qualified staff doesn't know how to password the BVN retrieval process on the mobile phone. With *565#, anyone who has access to your mobile phone will retrieve your BVN. All they need is the 10 naira charge. How bad!

Then the cops use triangulation to find out where the phone is being used

Plus, I did not abuse you, so I wonder why you have to call me irrational and accuse me of having a poltical godfather, when I am 1) not into politics and 2) not an APC or PDP supporter

Imagine when your political godfather implements all the sh1t you suggested, then finds out that the kidnapers can use the victims' mobile phones in hindsight?

Exactly....and restricting the sim too helps. They won't be able to use pre-registered sims to hide their tracks.
