Have you heard about Aquaponics? Do you know what it is? Have you seen it in action? What do you think about 72 kwh in Dyness lithium batteries for your establishment. 45 kw in Jinko half cut mono panels?
Watch the video and see as the farm shapes up.

This is what made me abandon my beloved MorningStar. They did not keep up with the pace of innovation (Lithium support was poor and risky due to controller in danger of blowing up if BMS randomly disconnects battery and also the software side of things stayed clunky and dated)

I have not installed a MorningStar charge controller in 2 years. Only Victron equipment. I still cannot believe it.
Without modification, my Midnite Classic installs ported to lithium batteries without flaw. Those with 250V Classics are smiling because of higher PV input. The singular downside is being unable to communicate with smart batteries. None of my clients are bothered about that (the big boys ported to Victron in order to take advantage of those features).

With the newer 450V Victron MPPT CC, it'll be hard to convince the devout to try anything else.

There is one other rugged looking CC, Outback abi FlexMax; I love that brand. I hope they upgrade too.
Essentially designed & made by the same guys who moved on to develop the Midnite brand. It's immediately next to the Midnites in the evolutionary ladder.

Is that voltage range affecting your harvest? You might end up frying your CC.
Wakes at dawn, sleeps sometime between 6:00pm & 6:30pm. While the energy harvest isn't significant, it adds up to between 1.5 to 3kW of harvest on brilliant days (2.8 - 4.5kWp arrays). Years of data logging for my and my clients testify to this.

My 4kWp array can do 2kW instantaneous by 8 :30am on bright days on a 4s configuration. That's impossible until around 9:30am on a 3s configuration. Pranil taught me the LoMax trick many years ago which permits the CC to drop PV input voltage below the battery voltage for an early wake-up and late sleep.

Oga Saipro, you're in the right position to answer my questions because you used 4 PC's of 12v 200Ah batteries (48v system) with 3 or 3.5kva inverter in 2015/2016.

How have you been managing you loads then because I intend to setup a similar system?
Have you been loading your appliances while charging (with solar panels) or you've been waiting for it to be fully charged before loading?
If loaded while still charging, have you ever gotten full charge, say 52v or thereabouts?
Whatever you use to have in the evening, has it been sustaining you till the following morning?
My intending usage is:
Day consumption: 600w x 12hrs = 7200wh
Night consumption: 400 x 12hrs = 4800wh.
My system setup plan: 4 pcs of 12v 230Ah tubular battery. 48v/3.5kva inverter. 8 pcs of 320 mono panels and 48v/60A mppt charge controller.
My apologies for the late response. A lot going on here lately. Like I've often insisted, this RE of a thing is more about energy conservation than generation.
- some appliances are on 24/7 like some lights and peripherals. To ensure minimal power footprint, I use a Victron Phoenix 48V/800VA inverter (tare consumption <10W) from late evening (typically around 6-7pm) till 8-9am. It's powerful enough to power run a fridge/freezer while running lights, fans, 55' LED TVs and the occasional blender. On dull days, it runs the entire day
- whichever large inverter I have comes into play for routine daytime use. The large fridge and 2 freezers came on around 9 - 10am when my array was 3kWp but now start around 8am for the fridge and smaller freezer then the really big freezer comes on whenever it's convenient.
- batteries end up charging fully by midday even on poor days because loads are throttled back on poor sunlight days. At no time does the smaller inverter go off. The larger inverters almost always go off at night except when the whole house is away. They then remain on with a freezer and fridge 24/7. Freezer and fridge together consume <400W so no problem there.
- security lights, CCTV, WiFi, etc are on a dedicated bank with its PV and 24V 250W Victron Phoenix inverter.

I occasionally tinker with the things (the life of an avid DIYist is filled with adventure) but this setup has given me all I need plus peace of mind for many years now. Occasionally, I try an new peripheral before general deployment but the system is wired such that flexibility permits minimal tinkering to modify and get it running.

PS: I export power to my immediate neighbours via a current limiter. It gets them going during extended blackout periods (rather common with the severe storms this year). I have no need for the entire 15kWh or more I generate daily. 10kWh on average is sufficient for most days. Up your game to 320W PV × 12 and your plans should come to fruition.

Reach me on O8O 239O 23O5 for WhatsApp/calls/SMS. Posting my email publicly has earned me a lot of spam lately.

Please I have two questions for the experts in the forum
1) at what voltage is a 220ah tubular battery considered DEAD?

2) at what voltage is it expected for an inverter to beep "battery low" for the safety of the battery?
Whatever voltage it refuses
1) charge
2) retain charge
Having said that, any 12V lead battery routinely dropping to 10V or thereabouts while at rest can be considered to have crapped out

Here i stay, we haven't had power going to a month now. My batteries on a heavily shaded pv system is already taking a hit. I now wake up to around 12.4v.... do you know my landlord who has a solar inverter system big enough to run the sub water pump, only pumps for his tank. And leaves the tenants to go fetch water across the street as he didn't dig a well in the compound.... Neighbors are already relocating and I'm considering it seriously too.

Nonsense

Amen! Thanks. Actually installed a dedicated water tank with faucet outlets to supply immediate neighbourhood (potable water is always a problem in the dry season). Only problem is I need to pump water just about daily to meet demand.

Yea, that might be possible. But with the way they sounded, not sure they'd still offer the 5 warranty with that. The idea was that the BMS and balancer installed are bulletproof tried and trusted.

Hello, Any update on your battery. I am seriously considering purchase and have also gone to the workshop (its close to my area) and as you said he was a reassuring bizowner.

Thanks

See waste. Just painful.

justcallmenuel:

He’s just using that for the main time, said he’ll get a good mppt soon.

One month of poor charging coupled with discharge is enough to depreciate that bank by a rapid 50 percent, something that should take years.

So except he intends to get his MPPT within a week, the lives of those batteries are on the line.

That's bad. What is he a landlord for if he is unable to provide water for his tenants? He may be excused that of electricity but water, haba! So does it imply that the borehole was only sunk for his use and not for the whole compound?
