Scan the car.....is their check engine light. Is the car running in closed loop operation. Is the thermostat available and working properly.

Are you using the right engine oil, 5w20/5w30. Heavier oil will make the engine work harder, hence consume more fuel.

Short trip within city will yield reduced mpg compared to longer highway trip due to the engine required time to get to operating temperature
Are you using radiator coolant.
First thing scan the car....am sure if your pilot is consuming unreasonable fuel, it will pop up codes

Yes, the engine light is on.
I found that Honda pop up fault light at any slightest error.

I am using Mobil 5w-20 as recommended on the engine oil compartment cover.

3miles per liter in the city.
Mostly short trips of less than 5miles to and fro work. Mileage will definitely be better in long distance/highway travel

As at the last check i got 1.7miles per litre for intra-city movement, July 2021; and i got an average of 5 miles per litre for inter-city (Lagos to Ibadan), Oct 2020.

The difference between intra-city and inter-city consumption is much when compared to my previously owned Toyota products, though i have really enjoyed driving my Honda Pilot.

5miles/litre on the highway......that's good. Am yet to try interstate. I remembered my pilot was doing 2miles/litre until the thermostat was fixed, I changed to total 5w30, then stat using radiator coolant instead of water. It jumped immediately to 3miles/litre that same month. I also noticed that if I take longer miles within the town at a stretch, the fuel consumption reduces overtime.

1.7miles/litre within city is low,I guess heavy traffic, frequent short trips might be a contributory factor. Scan your pilot. The code might pop up. Mine showed on scan that my thermostat wasn't in place. And it was fixed
