The World Bank said unemployment rate particularly rose acutely since the 2015-2016 economic recession. A new World Bank report has indicated that the unemployment rate in Nigeria has risen more than ever in the history of the country under the Buhari led administration. For a nation, unemployment rate is defined as the percentage of the labour force population who could not find at least 20 hours of work in the reference period. The report says the rate was significantly higher for Nigerian youth (42.5 per cent) compared to non-youth (26.3 per cent). The current rate of unemployment in Nigeria has risen five fold from 6.4 per cent in 2010, hitting 33.3 percent as of the last quarter of 2020, per National Bureau of Statistics’ report. The Washington based organisation said the unemployment rates which started rising sharply in 2015, when President Muhammadu Buhari assumed power, has been worsened by COVID-19, leading the country into recession. “The rise in unemployment rates has been particularly acute since the 2015- 2016 economic recession and has further worsened as COVID-19 led to the worst recession in four decades in 2020” the paper read in part The report which was published in collaboration with Rapid Social Response trust fund (RSR) and Korea World Bank Partnership Facility ( KWPF) puts the rate of employed male in Nigeria at 46.4 per cent while that of women stood at 40.6 per cent. The World Bank opined that the growing numbers of Nigerian citizens seeking asylum in other countries is as a result of economic issues faced in Nigeria. It states that from 1990 to 2019, migrants from Nigeria has risen from 446, 806 to 1,438, 331. A World Bank projection in March, 2021 had predicted that no fewer than 20 million Nigerians would have plunged into poverty before Mr Buhari leaves office. In a report in June, the World Bank warned that Nigeria’s 10 years economic gains could be reversed under the Buhari regime. Though Mr Buhari claims his regime has lifted 10 million Nigerians out of poverty, the World Bank maintains that seven million Nigerians became poor under Buhari in 2020. Mr Buhari in an interview with Arise TV crew in July blamed youths for worsening rate of unemployment. He asked the youths to be of good behaviour so that foreign investors can come into the country. “Nobody is going to invest in an insecure environment. So I told them [his ministers], I said they should tell the youth that if they want jobs, they will behave themselves,” Mr Buhari said. https://gazettengr.com/unemployment-rate-under-buhari-worst-in-nigerias-history-world-bank/ |

I am still wondering what Buhari supporters smoke? Nigerians, we still have one year plus for an increase in hardship, prices and other vices..... If they couldn't halt price hikes in 6 years, they will even allow its free fall for the last part of their administration. I was thinking that when the man remembers the pain and efforts his supporters put in to vote him into power, he will do everything possible to at least allow them to feed. When food is getting out of reach, my dear na death o Now foods prices have doubled and the man is blaming the middle men.... He also blamed them in 1984 Fasten your seat belt, try your best to survive. This too shall pass IT IS WELL 10 Likes |

You don't need any soothsayer to tell you that the sleepy dullard from daura is a colossal disaster that has plunged Nigeria further into economic quagmire. Even all the Nairaland resident Zombies can attest to the fact that the calamity of a president has destroyed Nigeria Kpatakpata and it's game over. 3 Likes

Poo"hari a lover of cows who strongly believes that the creation of grazing routes in the 21st century for his fulani killing terrorist machines, will make Nigeria the Eldorado in the eyes of the world. How a known gene based quota system jihadist became the president of over 200million people is still one of the greatest wonders of the world How this disaster was even possible really should be calling for great concern if not na cluelessness of grave proportion go always be nigeria portion. A country of over 200million people could only come up with such a calamity. Who do nigeria dis kain tin sef? 1 Like |
