To clarify.

It doesn’t matter the formation between a 4231 and 433. In-play, both function similarly. There’s usually a defensive midfielder, and two midfielders playing upfront.

As the match progresses, based on abilities and coaching instructions, players may switch occasionally.

That’s how Fred played alongside Casemiro and Lucas Paqueta in the Copa America. Fred and Paqueta move upfront, while Casemiro holds sway in defense.

At United, it’s supposed to be same, but Fred can’t venture far from his position into his preferred area because it exposes McTom, and inadvertently the defence, and vice versa.

This is what really caused the talk of Fred playing as a CM or DM, and subsequently, dragging of a fellow comrade

This was why the Bruno, Pogba, Matic midfield worked till Olé ran them into the ground lmao

So it really doesn’t matter how the formation looks on paper, 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1. The midfielders end up doing basically the same job on the pitch.

With your definition of worked, can we say the same of mcfred? Are they being ran to the ground the way you claim the other midfield was? Abi is it not the same mcfred that was an integral part of the team that took second and got to the final of the europa league?

It matters really cos if it didn't, coaches won't mind. That double pivot is of utmost importance in shielding the defense[here McFred excels] and providing options for ball progression[here McFred is average] hence the need for Pogba.

It's true that players may switch occasionally and advance up the pitch like in the case of Fred with Brazil but Tominay ain't no DM talk more of being a Casimeiro.

That's why I still maintain that even if we get a proper DM Ole will still be using 4-2-3-1 and we'll get to see the very best of Fred as a proper box to box.

I get your root philosophy but we don't have the proper personell in McFred to execute it hence the reason for there conservative roles.

That was not a counter attack, France were barely in their opponent’s half.

How can you anticipate when your teammate will needlessly lose the ball in a dangerous position in his own halt?

How do you adjust and transition from attacking to defensive positions in that split moment?

The onus is not on Pogba’s teammates to defend that kind of ball, the responsibility is on Pogba not to lose the ball needlessly in a dangerous position.

James should be loaned out or sold. Andreas shouldn't be regarded as United Player anymore. He should be sold this Window.
