You get! You don forget the Lord himself? Can you even imagine if we had the Auba of 2 seasons ago on some that Wenger roster? I am not saying I was content with finishing 4th oh! Absolutely not but when I compare those teams to what we are now? It is very shameful to watch. We have no business being where we are right now and the foolery has to stop!
Lol... I tell you.
If we have had Auba under prime ozil, cazorla, Sanchez and Ramsey, at least we would have competed for league in one of these seasons. It was just so bad I tell you. Imagine the kind of chances our team were creating then and the kind of midfielders that score.

But to be sincere, I can't even compare that Wenger's team to present one we have. This team have No scoring midfielder, no good creative midfielder, no good scoring winger(just saka who's a creator sef).... Mehn, the difference is stark. So so Stark

We know, that's why most of we fans were very angry. The squad was good (tho not enough for the league) but what the squad needed was just a top player or two and we might definitely win the league. When we needed a striker (higuain was available) we bought sanogo and kallstrom. When we needed a striker to win the league and Suarez was available, we f'ked up with price.
It was so so bad.

Imagine the season we needed a striker when almost all our squad were good, but we signed Cech....
All these things plus Wenger pride was what made fans angry

As for Arteta, well that one na different matter entirely grin

I follow this thread as a Gunner, but I prefer to read than comment.

I am not a fan of Arteta and if I had my way he would not have been hired in the 1st place because my fear actually played out.

But I see almost everyone condemning him here with almost none seeing anything good or have anything good to say to defend him. While I am not Arteta's fan, but I think some here have not been fair to him. so at the risk of being called Pro Arteta and Arteta Defender, I will still put forward my opinion.

First, Arteta is only 36 or thereabout, not too far from the average age of the players he inherited.... we all know Trust and respect are keys to the success of any manager. Some of those players will have issue of giving him the respect he deserves. As if that was not enough, he was a rookie that had never been fully in charge of any team before, not even a lower league team, and as a player he was not an extraordinary player like Zinedine Zidane. The only thing he had for him was that he was working with one the bests; Guardiola. So I thought he was too small for a big club like Arsenal, but then, I also believe that everyone deserves a chance while the opportunity comes.

That said, in his defense, Arteta inherited a massively flawed team that requires more than a season to correct, although he himself made few wrong calls... like signing Willian (But then we should not forget Willian was free at the time and fresh from his best days). I knew back then it will be tough for him to make top 4 but I wished he would make it nonetheless.... and like most fans, I felt disgusted when we couldn't even make top 6.

But what he is doing now; by focusing on these young talented boys, gives me some hope and impression that he is correcting the errors made and building a new team that will respect him and buys his ideology. Football success is 70% managing people that trust and respect you and just 30% about tactics. Arteta will now not much depend on these big boys who are already too full to learn and who think they will be better manager than him. I see the average age of the next season team being the lowest in decades. If I even have my way, I will say sell Aubameyang, Laca and Willian even if for peanut and without replacement... let's give our younger ones room even at the risk of not making top 6; we will develop better and stronger. But I doubt any team will buy these guys even for free considering their decline and wages. So we have to manage them for now.

About Saliba.... I think Saliba ordinarily should fit into the profile of the team Arteta is building now.... but the guy has attitude problem no thanks to many of us who hype him too much, making him feel like he is the best and the only solution to come to Arsenal defense. Arteta cannot afford a young player with big ego at this time...he will mess up what he is doing. Maybe in the future when he is humble and ready to learn.

Do I think Arteta will bring us to Top 4 this season? I dont think so, we might end up in Top 6 this coming season, but 2 seasons from now I will expect our new team to be a force to reckon with. Think Liverpool!

While I wish we have a better manager, let's be positive and give Arteta another chance.

Fair enough...
But it's just somehow seeing as you are always saying we should be thankful for top 4 then, just because we're struggling to get top 4 now
That's what being grateful is all about. Isn't it?

We had no business making top 4 with the kind of players we had under Wenger.. We were punching above our weight for the most part..

Under Arteta and with the kind of players on our roster, we have absolutely no business finishing 7th, 8th and at one point battling to stay above relegation waters. It didn’t matter if he fielded street kids, Spuds were never finishing above Wenger! Not anymore!!!!

Now we are contending with Villa and Leeds, can’t even finish above Westham and Leicester City.

Brilliant thoughts. But age or experience isn't an excuse though. See Nagelsmann, and Pep in his first season.

Nevertheless, your points were more of positive and I support you to a large extent.

No...
Once one deserve more, it's foolishness to accept less. This is same thing our politicians are doing us.

We had the resources to improve our squad, but Wenger thought it wise to make the squad "just okay". He doesn't know that stagnancy in a fast paced world also means moving backwards, now the crows have come home to roost and it's biting us hard.

For crying out loud, we were a laughing stock throughout most of his tenure(from 2008) and the only thing we look out for is Champions league which we're still disgraced mostly again.

Just forget bros, Wenger do us Strong thing.

Bro... It's good having you here and we'll always appreciate your thoughts and Opinions.
You're welcome.

Now back to the matter.
Actually, most of my sticks on Arteta have mostly being on last season's performance. If you can even check deeper, you'll find out that I'm among those who even still had hope on Arteta till the Uel semi final when he opted to play xhaka at Lb wen we have Cedric who can play there.

Also, most of my attacks on him have been based solely on last season cos he made so many decisions that cost us. Well I'm waiting to see how this season pans out sha(I don't rate preseason, reason why I won't start analysing arsenal or Arteta there)

You made so many crucial points, but the one I want to be hopeful on is you saying we should give Arteta time that he can take us back to the top.
We'll just wait and see as the season unfolds and we hope he does, or at least near there cos we're fast becoming a midtable team and time is of essence. Else we might just be languished perpetually in 8th and 10th

I know you'll say we don't have due to stadium building, but other clubs who built stadium have proved that to be a big fat lie.

Also, Wenger was stingy, it was when arsenal don dey scatter he now knew he'll start breaking transfer records in lacazette and Auba to do quick fixes.

Even their transfer activities dey suspicious. It's no news that we need an AM at least, but we are smashing records for a defender. I wonder what Wenger would be thinking seeing us now signing a defender for 50m when strikers never die finish for this world.
