moffi should spend one more season with lorient
TheLoneCitizen:

Olympiacos have cancelled the loan deal for Onyekuru.

They will now be buying him outright, this season. Trust.

Also Lorient have convinced Terem Moffi to stay for at least one season, only a big offer now will see him move.

Arsenal continued their pre-season preparations with a 4-1 victory against Premier League new boys Watford at London Colney on Wednesday afternoon.

The friendly was hastily arranged after the Gunners cancelled their pre-season trip to the United States for the Florida Cup.

For the first time in pre-season, young Nigeria-eligible goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo was not involved and watched the game from the sidelines; manager Mikel Arteta handed a start to Bernd Leno with Rúnar Alex Rúnarsson named on the substitutes bench.

Wearing the number 4 at the back of his jersey, Watford's Nigeria international Oghenekaro Etebo started and was in action for 65 minutes before making way for Wise, while Emmanuel Dennis played only the first half.

Hornets quartet William Troost-Ekong, Dapo Mebude, Isaac Success and Tom Dele-Basiru were not in the squad.

Arsenal broke the deadlock inside sixteen minutes when Eddie Nketiah beat the Watford goalkeeper with a curling shot but it was level at the break as Philip Zinckernagel found the back of the net after his initial effort was blocked.

Alexandre Lacazette made it 2-1 from the spot at minute 70 before Kieran Tierney converted from close range in the 77th minute.

Anglo-Nigerian midfielder Miguel Azeez, on as a substitute in the 64th minute, scored the pick of the goals with a brilliant long range shot that beat goalkeeper Elliot in the 86th minute.

Arsenal are next in action on Sunday, August 1 when they host Chelsea at the Emirates Stadium.

Union Berlin signing Taiwo Awoniyi has lifted the lid on his departure from Liverpool.

The Nigerian departed after six years at Anfield last week, although he failed to register a single senior appearance for the club.

Reds manager Jurgen Klopp told Awoniyi the fact Union Berlin parted with a club-record transfer fee to acquire him is a good thing because it proves they wanted him.

“He (Klopp) said it was a good thing because he felt like everyone at Union wanted to sign me at the club," he told Kicker. “He said it was the most important thing for a young player."

Before adding: “I am convinced that Union is the best move for me at the moment. Maybe one day I'll go back to England. Who knows."

Speaking on his departure last week, Awoniyi said: “After lots of loan moves in previous years, I want to finally come and have a home.

"I owe so much to Union, so it makes me happy and proud to be back here. It's fantastic to continue on the great path with the club. I will give everything to quickly pick up where I was before my injury."

south Africa is the only African country that did not qualify to the knockout round of the Olympics. They finished last in a group that includes Japan, France and mexico. If we were the one in south Africa's group, does anyone think we might have performed better and even qualify for the knockout round?

There is a slight chance Akwa United win the league today if they draw their match and their rivals lose.

Akwa is unofficially champions; no team can overtake them even if they loose the two remaining matches. They lead with 6PTS and 11GD.

So after all the gra gra that mike brown has been making prior to the olympics, “we’re here to win” we have still lost 2 games in a row. It just shows that sometimes whether a coach uses the boastful or humble route, their results on the pitch is all that matters.

At least, Mike Brown didn't go about telling the media that his boys are too young and not capable of performing... If you watched the two games they played, you would know that they played well..... without fear.... They are probably the most inexperienced team in the tournament...

Exactly my point. because, they still lost 2 games in a row even Rohr didn't lose 2 games in a row at the world cup. At the end of the day, whether a coach chooses to use the humble or arrogant route, it's only his results that matters

This is hilarious. So as a South African, you literally check out mentions of South Africa on Nairaland so you can reply? Cos I haven't seen you here before.

Anyways, I'm not interested a country penis measurement competition but what he implied is the truth. We Africans need to converge a conference to figure out where our problem is coming from.

South Africa's problems as a nation started when the Dutch settlers lost their grip over the country. Like, you guys literally stagnated. Crimes, drugs, police corruption e.t.c took over.

Same with Nigeria too. Our military leaders sat down and carefully dismantled the country post independence.

And a timid team will always be timid, and brave players with self believe and determination will always have it, wheyher the coach ginger or not.

Thats the truth on one side, the only reason why south Africa finds it easier to medal can be associated to their white population.

But on the contrary, how about black Americans who have from time immemorial broken boundaries winning medals in sports where white Americans can't dominate.

Can we get the stats on which race has won more medals for the USA is it the blacks or the whites. Then we can get a clearer understanding of whether it's a case of nature versus nature.

Say if blacks are assumed to be better at sports then why is the most populous black country struggling to win medals? We might be quick to point to maladministration and corruption as the bane of our inefficiency to adequately compete, thus, the latest example is the case where our track and field athletete are unsure whether they can even compete due to error bordering around simple covid testing and proper documentation. This can consequently affect their performance.

But I digress. The real question is have the blacks in America won more medals than the whites. And have the whites in south Africa won more medals than their black counterpart

Wow! shocked So South Africa didn't have massive problems during the apartheid era, according to u - which it also inherited in the democratic era? The non-white communities (80% of the population) were living heavenly lives with all the problems of today non-existent? Service delivery was equal for all and on the same standard as the white areas right? Electricity for all, water, no Bantu education, no police oppression and brutality of the black masses, no state sponsored attacks on vulnerable communities? I wonder who historicaly introduced the DOP system on the vineyards paying the labourers with just wine and making them and their future generations alcohol dependent, hmmmm?

With all that said I guess you're right man: whites are gods - they can never do no wrong. Blame it all on the blacks.

Nigeria CB Leon Balogun has raised some critical issues about the administration of football in Nigeria, including the condition with the Super Eagles squad, criticizing the lack of professionalism.

Balogun spoke on the Nigeria Football Federation circus about the backlog of bonuses owed the Super Eagles stretching back 2019.

The 33 year-old revealed he had “taking the fall” for standing up for his teammates against the administrators and has been dubbed a “trouble maker”.

Speaking on “The Beautiful Game Podcast”, the 2019 AFCON bronze medal winner anticipates his vocal criticism could land him hot water with an intolerant Nigeria FA.

Excerpts of Balogun’s interview with “The Beautiful Game” Podcast:

You hear about other players and why can’t they not perform in the Super Eagles. We have to be honest, the infrastructure, we are not being provided with the best minerals to do our job.

It starts with pitches or it starts with accommodation but it goes on to pitches and all these kinds of things. And as I said I’m always quite outspoken, probably I know if some people hear that they might come after me but I don’t care because that’s just how it is.

If you say you want to see the next Messi coming out of Nigeria or the next Cristiano Ronaldo or whatsoever, if you want to see us so then you need to make sure that back home in Nigeria we have the best possibilities.

Like why don’t we have a base in Nigeria where we meet up like St. George’s park in England, we don’t really have something like that.

About the bonuses, it’s not even a secret, I’ve read something recently where people in charge contradict themselves saying things have been paid then they admit they haven’t been paid.

You know what everybody is so concerned about the look of Nigeria and we that we have to represent Nigeria well and we cannot embarrass Nigeria; make sure you’re not embarrassing Nigeria with your own action.

I think it’s also a matter of the culture, it’s a cultural thing to show respect in this kind of things, also that’s something where I clash probably because I’m not afraid to speak my mind even if it’s with the Coach or the Manager if I feel like something is wrong I might at one point just talk about it and then it’s always like this boy is a trouble maker.

I’m not a trouble maker, because at the end of the day I stand in for my teammates, I do that with pleasure and if I have to take the fall well, I probably did in the past.

But, it’s always also motivated by personal issues, by things that I just feel like, I don’t have to deal with this, I should not have to deal with this and I don’t think any of us should, there’s loads of work to do.
Saw the video, I really hope he won't be punished for it
