So he only wanted to join United and since Real can’t afford to lose him for free next season, they had to compromise. So it’s just a case of right time, right player and the effects of an improved structure.

That's why before shouting sell/bin/loan, we have to look at the bigger picture...

We have McFred, VDB, Bruno, Pereira, Matic (I'd use him as a bargaining chip to get Brozovic if we fail to land our other targets for the CDM role), Pogba (Uncertainty over his future), Lingard (Uncertainty over his future), and Mata (Legs are gone)...

Most of those youngsters will be sent on loan whilst others continue with the U-23 set up...

From what is being reported, our next move in the market will depend on what happens with Pogba and others who might leave thus we might need to see where we are headed with Pogba before deciding on what to do with the likes of Pereira and co.

If Varane gets confirmed, he'll be the 8th player to have played for both United and Real Madrid. Can you name the others?

That line of argument was quite ridiculous which is why i didn't get involved. Almost all the clubs are complaining of being cash strapped which has affected transfer fees and player movement. It even posed an existential threat to many small clubs (e.g Arsenal) who were begging the government for handouts and even asking players to take a pay cut.
