Lekiboboe: Adding supporting documents can never be overemphasized. Not just to college applications, universities as well.. I remember when I contacted Carleton uni for a program, stating my cgpa (and last 2 yrs cgpa) cos I didn't meet the 80% overall cgpa. Although I was told that I didn't meet up to their req, I was also advised to add up supporting documents to aid given admission (cv, certificates, rec letter , etc)....i got the offer eventually (although it took months ) There's no such thing as submitting too many documents when it comes to applying for grad programs in Canadian schools... No leave any stone unturned!!! 1 Like |

If your interest is to do a PhD in Canada, you should be able to start with 3 things by yourself (as someone who wants to do a rigorous research program) -Search for schools where your program is offered -Check requirements & determine eligibility -Work on securing a supervisor Your ability to start the 3 independently and by yourself will lay a good foundation for your success as a PhD student It will prepare you for the rigor of doing independent research. Securing a supervisor will also increase your chances of getting an admission and scholarship. Perseverer: Do you think it's that easy to share bad news Hello, the human factor would play in here. It takes confidence to share refusals. Besides, we have different people with different emotional strengths. To you, it might seem not a big deal but bro, I pray you don't experience any form of bad news... Even if refused applicants might wanna share it, they need time to process the feeling first (I commend those that share theirs 24 hours after) please understand people are faster and eager to share that good news than bad ones. If I may also add, no one owes nobody any updates on this platform. It's in anyone's interest to do so... May we all smile las las 20 Likes |

Hi guys, need some inputs. I have a masters in engineering but want to do a post graduate diploma or post graduate cert related to computer science. If I apply to a post grad cert that is one year in duration but 3 semesters long, how much post graduate work experience will I get? 12 months or 18 months. Also, due to it's cheaper cost, I am seriously considering one Diploma but the entry requirement is just secondary sch cert while I already have a masters. Would I get the admission? Could I be given a visa for that? Thanks. |

JosephYemsol: First and foremost, I have shared bad news ooo. It was hard, but I did. Secondly, I never said anyone owes anybody anything. I just expressed my view. Lastly, life is about evolving as a person. People should also evolve over time. Edification is better than celebration anytime any day. (Edification is selfless... Celebration is just celebration). (I should add that while people celebrate their states, conditions, or success, it is benefit unto them, but has absolutely no humanitarian value. Hence, celebrating in private or with a small group is far more logical. Or else, it ends up looking like show off. Nairaland is a platform for edification. Like I said, I am just sharing my view. I did not say that people must behave in a certain way. I don't know anybody here personally, and I have no interest in knowing anybody here personally). 6 Likes |

Perseverer: Well said. This is deep. I agree with what you wrote. The thing is, it's not just how people celebrate on social media. If you notice, it happens everywhere in Nigeria. For example, Obi Cubana's celebration and similar kinds. It's easy for people to overlook the plight of others and bask in their own success. They are simply carried away... But it shows lack of depth. If I come here and announce to the world all my academic achievements, expensive acquisitions, and exotic travels, this obviously has no educational value... It's just a way to draw attention to myself. Besides, it disregards the fact that there are people struggling, and such news may worsen their emotional states. So, I perfectly understand where you are coming from. But it's deep ooo. 4 Likes |
