To me pere is acting...he knows what Maria wants and clearly she has stated it..but pere want Maria to be the one to push their friendship as she call it up a notch..

You know when you like someone and you know they know but the person don't want to admit he/she likes you back...but you know he/ she does ..at the moment of their weakness bullshit them..that point of rejection tends to push the other person to act radical...
