Emusan:
Good day everyone!

I'll like to first thank the OP for his open-minded approach and dedication because not many people can do what he did.

And I'll also like to extend the same gesture to others who have contributed greatly to where the OP stopped.

I took my time to read the thread from page 1 to page 200 and I can confess, that is enough for me to grab the message as the OP made it easy to understand.

But my great concern now is that this thread has been on since 2016 which is 5 years ago and reading from few last pages seems things might have changed the way OP put them.

Now, I'll like to ask some questions which I'll like the experts in the field to help me with.

1. What has really changed from how the OP put it?
2. Where to start from as domainer?
3. Is there any limitation being a domainer as Nigerians especially with different policies of this government?

Thanks!

Welcome on board bro, first thing you need to know is that Domaining is not a get rich quick scheme, it requires hard work, dedication, lots of patience and a stroke of luck, although you can make a payday from it once you get going. But like I said it require alot of dedication and continous learning.

To answer your questions :

1. What has really changed from how the OP put it?
Nothing, Just the price of dollar cheesy lol. But on a more serious note, Trends are changing everyday so as a domainer you change with it. What was relevant 5 years ago are not so much relevant in today's ever evolving market for example there were times 3D domains, hosting, cloud, drone, and 3G domains were hot cake, but not so much nowadays so what happens is the value of these kind of names drops. In todays market, trends like finance tech(fintech), healthcare, medical cannabis, cleaning and sanitary niche(cos of covid) although it's fading gradually, digital art, online shopping and delivery services etc. are more relevant. So you have to keep up with the changing trends and read alot. If not you get left behind in the past pretty quickly.

2. Where to start from as domainer
Well start from the beginning wink lol
First you need to understand the market or the domain industry as a whole. Know what works and what does not. Pick a niche you feel you're most attracted to and start from there there are geo names, brandables, premium and keyword rich names, number domains etc so find out the one you understand the most, the one that make most sense to you and start from there. Don't be a jack of all trade master of none. Learn one niche and perfect it then along the line you can play around and mix them as you like cos by then your not so much bothered about your investment cost. You can read namepros dot com domain community to keep up with latest trends and this thread as well were a wealth of knowledge and experience from fellow domainers are shared daily for free. Also ensure you have capital and alot of patience too.

3. Is there any limitation being a domainer as Nigerians especially with different policies of this government?

Well the limitations I see is the change of limit of the dollar spending limit by banks to just $100 Per month but aside from that I see no other limits cos Domaining is a legitimate business and you can withdraw your funds with PayPal from exchangers, payoneer to your direct bank account or selling to other exchange buyers, BTC if you opt for that option, direct bank wire transfer, there are alot of payment options depending on the platform you used in selling a name. Domaining is a game of patience, hardwork and grace. Some get on pretty fast others not so quickly that's where patients is needed.
All the best.

Peace cool

U1 Domains or MeetMe Domains are real names I believe

That's not what is in focus here.

You may choose to use any of such names as what is displayed on the landing page. But do you use such when doing outbound?

And forget whether something like "U1 Domains" is displayed on the lander; it's only a nickname if it's an individual seller. Your real name is what shows up on the invoice.

What if that real name doesn't match with the one you use in your emails? That's the point fergusen was trying to make, I guess.

Mrblaze06:
same here, some people are now using sav backordering service ,if the names on your watchlist are not back ordered by the top drop catching services, then sav will catch it for you for $7.99

You're there. I noticed that two in the first set of domains I added to watchlist were registered at Sav.

However, when I tried Sav yesterday I saw a message that they'd only attempt to catch domains on their pending delete list, although you're free to submit any other. The only one I submitted there was caught by the bully called DropCatch. smiley

My Sales report the Past months

Payxon //dot//com

Sold Price : $1795
Reg Fee : $6.99(Epik) + renewals = $22.97
Received : $1439
Sold Venue : Afternic
Sale Type : Inbound
Hold Time : 7 months

Luxayo //dot//com

Sold Price : $1750
Reg Fee : $7.99 (Dynadot)
Received : $1250 after commissions deduction
Sold Venue : Squadhelp
Hold Time : 15 days (but took 45 days more to complete sale as name was under 60 days transfer lock)

SquadDesk //dot//com

Sold Price : $1799
Reg Fee : $7.99 (Dynadot) + $17 Renewal fees
Received : $1250 after commissions deduction
Sold Venue : Squadhelp
Hold Time : 2 years and 5 months

Squadhelp marketplace have been getting over saturated of late meaning high volume of names listed in the marketplace results to low sales through rate (STR). Meaning you have to have a decent portfolio of names there to break even but if your names are good and unique they'll sure sale. But the recent drop in sales at squadhelp can be attributed to high volume of names listed at the marketplace which I guess should be very close to 100k names if not already. But wishing everyone success and Goodluck. In Keith's famous quotes may all your sales be to end users.

I think the real name on dan can be changed. You know, to match the one you outbound with.

I don't know if it's going to affect things like payouts though.

Of course, I believe the name on Dan can be changed to match. There shouldn't be an issue if receiving payout with bitcoin or PayPal account, I guess.

But what about the country? I think that would be indicated in the invoice if I remember correctly.

However, as I already stated, I don't think this can stop some sales.

Congrats, beckplanet. I wonder if "congrats" is the right word to use here, though. cheesy More sales!

I think I might not be wrong that many of those who sell regularly do not use their real names. They use Western names and get away with it.

Even if you use your real names, the Nigeria address factor might be a deal-breaker.

Anytime I try to reg a just dropped name on Dynadot, it goes to processing and awaiting approval, and each time I chat them up to authorize manually, most times the name gets registered one minute (according to whois) before they tell me its unavailable. This happens to good names (journal/depot, by/stitch among others) but others go instant. I'm beginning to think those agents are stealing domains on a low.
This never happen with other registrars. Who has experienced this?

Hi bro,
Can you share with us your experiences as a full time domainer?
How long have you been a full time domainer?
How has the journey been?
The good and bad times?
Challenges?
Have you ever considered quitting domaining and going to look for a 9-5 job?
Average monthly income from domaining (if you don’t mind).
Any other full time domainer in the house can also share his experiences so that we can learn
Thanks

I was working full time and domain was my side hustle until covid struck. During the lockdown I realised I was making my salary which was 150k at the time just outbounding. I also got to learn the reason I wasn't successful prior to that time was my outbound timing. I work 8 to 8pm six times a week, so I only sent mails at the close of work on my way back home sticked in lekki Ajah traffic (Terrible experience).

But covid made me realize if I start outbound from 1pm to 7pm the response rate would be higher and I was closing more deals. By 7pm I was just in time to compete in the drops from expireddomains .net. These little things made me realise all the knowledge I gathered from this thread were valuable, I just never really had the time and opportunity to put them into practice this it influenced my decision to resign in June last year and I went full time into domains. Since then I've just had 3 months without sales but other months cover up for it if you know learn money management.

At first I was ok with $400 monthly but I saw I had more time in my hand to make more and this has kept me motivated. On the average since June 2020 I make $700 to $1k just doing domains even with 3 months of no sale cos there are months I've made $2k, $3k, and $5k

Do I regret resigning?

Hell NO!!! My family, friends and colleagues were scared for me, some felt I was making a stupid mistake but my wife trusted my decision and stuck with me and I'm glad Jehovah made our plans turn out successful. Without Jehovah, Boss Iykepromotions and my Bosses I mentioned earlier I would still be in lekki traffic grin grin grin

If you believe you can succeed in domain investing and you our in the work, you are definitely going to be successful.

I'm still a learner o but I'm sure of this. #wemove
