Young man, in Benin everyone came from different places, some came from anioma area, others have Urhobo ancestry, others with Ijaw, a huge chunk are aborigines from the Ugo area, by far the oldest of all Edo towns, a town that is said to have been around for over 5000 years, this is a town which most Edo folklore revolve around. Others from Udo, another ancient Edo aborigine town which Other chunk of Edos migrated from. In Edo, we are not delusional, everyone knows where they came from.

You are correct but the part you said onitsha is 100 percent Igbo is totally wrong

Oga some town in onitsha are from igala and they settled there and from there also into asaba,

The obi of onitsha is of Benin heritage ..somehow
Asaba is 100% Igbo territory both linguistically and culturally.

This is an insult to Etsako people.
I expected this comment to come from people like you.
Ogbona may have meaning in igbo but it also has another meaning in Etsako language. Etsako people have no bearing, link whatsoever with igbo people. Etsako language has its roots in the Edoid language. Yam is celebrated even as far as in the gwari kingdom. Let everyone enjoy his ethnic diversity and stop all these traits of domination and expansionist tendencies. Even if Nigeria splits today, Etsako people will return to the Midwestern Nigeria province created by plebiscite of 1963.
Edo culture is seen as far as Onitsha but we don claim ownership of onitsha...all these igbo online warriors always trying to misinform people should stop!
Shut up. These people here are lost Igbo blood in Edo. Why are they putting on Igbo traditional attire. After Hausa-Fulani, Igbo is the next dominant tribe in Nigeria, stretching as far as SS and Middle-belt. Some parts of Edo are Igbo.

Shut up. Igbo has been a dominant and second largest tribe in Nigeria. It wasn't a coincidence that Igbos in SS and Middlebelt still promote their cultural ties with Igbos. Ohanaeze and IPOB MUST reach out to Ogbona and other Igbo subgroups in Edo State. Looking at their attire and the New Yam Festival, Igbo is written all over them.

Despite their dressing they may not be Igbo. At the most they will have some Igbo connection in their history. But today they can't be called Igbos because the Igbo connection is now almost non existent.

Dullard, whether I (or my brother) thinks the word “Yoruba” comes from the phrase “Oyo is the king” — that’s our personally view in the 20th/21st century.

However, what our forefather say w.r.t. the etymology of the word “Yoruba” is that it comes from the phrase “Ori Obba” — the “Head King”.
own to say in the 20th. And this was recorded in writing in the mid 1800s.

Moreover, no where did Ajayi Crowther say the word “Yoruba” derive from “Yarba”/“Yarriba”. He simply said this is how the Hausa people pronounce it in their own attempt.

The key-word here is pronounce it. Enrol in a primary school if you actually need to know what the word “pronounce” means.

Some Yorubas till date pronounce “Ìgbò” as “Yi.bo” — that is their best attempt, not that they give the Ìgbòs their name.

Lastly, the word “Yoruba” (or any of its non-native pronunciation) has no meaning whatsoever in any Northern language.

The last statement you wrote it in tears

I will admit you escaped the Yoruba issue....
Not until i will stumble on another but for now
shalom....

grin grin i b won catch cruise... Chaii e pain me, i know that Yoruba thing never end just need to stumble on the right source...

Nah bitch you didn't escape shit....

Ajayi crowther never told us the origin of the name yoruba, he only said how the hausas pronounced it,
Meaning the hausas could given the nane to the yorubas to any foreigner who inquired about the yoruba people

Deceive in hausa is Yaudara which may have been mispronounced by ajayi as Yoruba.. And was further mispronounced as yoruba

Now you have to convince me that the hausa wasnt the originator of the name yoruba by bringing an 1800 article or book supporting your claims from an interview by a foreigner inquiring from a yotuba local the origin of the word yoruba
.
Even the title ile binu was fron tge itsekiris who the Portuguese contacted to know about the edo people

As for now it still stands... Shalom

You should understand Nigeria history properly before you csn grasp things out

The fulani migration into hausa state began in 1800 by 1820 their jihadist began they overthrew... The hausas kings and established their emirate.... And their jihad continued

Benin in the mid 1800 was facing internal Civil war, which made the oba of benin loose is life, after the oba death another succession crises began between who would be king... Sucession tussle... By this time benin had already pulled out from trading with the europeans and was facing issues within herself a plague struck benin during this period guess the Spanish flu benins were dieing from unknown diseases.. That was brought by the europeans who always entered benin city to see the oba... So the empire was weak...
This doesnt not mean it wouldn't bounce back... Because it wasn't the first time benin was burnt completely to the ground and was rebuilt and vassal state were recaptured

But there is a story of ekpende shrine in benin he was a powerful diviner, who was sent by the oba of benin to warn the jihadist against trespassing edo territories... He was believe he disappear from benin to auchi environs and when the jihadist saw is mythical powers they redrew back.... But kogi their nearest neigbour was already conquered making it easy for social and peaceful pentration of islam from neighbouring islamic areas like 6kogi to influence their edo neighbours auchi

As for the yoruba raids like ibadan the news came to benin late but when the oba heard of it he sent an esan army to dispatch the Ibadan slave raiders out of edo north... And they fled
This were all attended to when benin was in severe crises within herself...
But non of this invaders could even come to esan areas because they were stopped at their first attempt and they withdrew the benin and esan were untouched by any invaders

So don't mind the yoruba coward TAO11

These aren’t recent from bloggers.

Your kings have Yoruba praise names some of which were collected by R. E. Dennet 115 years ago from Benin.

See 1st screenshot featuring Adimula, Õṣa’keji, et. al. Tell us the meanings of these if they are Bini words. cheesy

Your screenshot is an opinion of a certain Ryder from the year 1965.

Guess what has happened between 1965 and 2021 in the field of historical scholarship of African history.

The field of historical scholarship of African history has unanimously debunked that opinion from Ryder.

See for example:

A. Akinjogbin (1967), F. Willett (1973), R. C. C. Law (1973), R. Horton (1979), A. Obayemi (1980), R. Smith (1988), B. Adediran (1991), D. Bondarenko (2003), S. A. Akintoye (2010), A. Ogundiran (2020), et al.

A summary of this unanimous conclusion of scholars is aptly put in a 2016 publication as attached below in the 2nd screenshot below:

Cheers!
